And that is why you fail!

FFXIII and XIV failing **** on Versus. XIII-2 was only decent, now Xiii-3, come on. Why not just finish Versus and then try and pick up the pieces of other games...

So that's why we don't see new IPs like we did on the SNES, PS1, PS2. Because they're scared?

That kind of sucks.I would've loved to see new games like Vagrant Story, Kingdom Hearts, Xenogears, Chrono Trigger, etc. That's what this gen has been missing for me. The new, JRPGs that have potential to spawn franchises.

Hopefully next gen the recover from the losses from FF14, get a little risky and start making new IPs again, along with Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest, all the Eidos games and Final Fantasy.

Vagrant story is one of my most favorite games of all time! Chrono trigger too

F- Square, outside vs13 I refuse to buy their games until Wada is gone.

Marcello4147d ago

Yep same here Square Enix + Wada = Fail !

nyobzoo4147d ago

please get rid of Wada, he's the worst thing to ever happen to Square Enix

Personally I felt it was too soon for another FF MMORPG.

Reibooi4147d ago (Edited 4147d ago )

I agree to a extent. After playing XI for like 7 years I do admit I kinda wanted a new and fresh FF MMO but the problem was that Wada made them ship XIV out full well knowing the game was at least a year or 2 away from being ready.(He probably thought something like "MMO's have patches we can fix what is broken" which is a terrible way of thinking.

If it had stayed in development until it was done and took the extra year or 2 it needed I think people might have been more willing to give it a shot but it did kinda come a bit to soon. The ironic thing is that A Realm Reborn is coming out when the original version probably should have and it has been built almost from the ground up in only 2 or so years. Which is nuts for a MMO and the most important thing is that it looks really good.

I agree somewhat that if they held back and "finished" the game that it might of done better, but looking back on it now, if they hadn't released it in such a state, than the game wouldn't of been getting the fixing it's getting now. I personally love the way it's going and even though it's been about 2-3 years, I'm still looking forward to XIV.

I understand they wanted to try something new with the FFXIV and all, but just having FFXI's system with enhancements and changes to better fit people of this day and age would of been better and safer, IMO.

@Reibooi

So are you thinking about getting Realm Reborn?
I think it actually looks pretty good, thinking about giving Guild wars 2 a break and trying it out when it launches.

Reibooi4140d ago (Edited 4140d ago )

@VileAndVicious

Oh yeah I will be playing A Realm Reborn. I have been playing XIV since it's launch. I stuck around mainly because they made it free and I wanted to see how much they would change.(which was ALOT and A Realm Reborn will be alot more)

I fully expect A Realm Reborn to be a truly great MMO. The question here is if SE can get others to realize the same. The terrible launch of XIV damage the image of the game to a massive extent and people are not gonna be so easy on it the 2nd time around. SE needs to find out how to pull in alot of new players or the game will die. Even if it's a truly good game it needs players to survive.

I have seen enough to confidently say I think it will be great. I just hope SE can convince those who are not following the game closely the same.

Yuji Naka guilty of insider trading breaks silence to accuse Square Enix producer of lies

Yuji Naka was fined $1.2 million and given a suspended jail sentence for the crime.

I find his comments around how Balan turned out to be very insightful as to why the game is trash. He basically apologises for its existence

solideagle8d ago

can you please give some of us who don't know anything about this, a summary of what happened?

Chocoburger8d ago

Balan was knowingly rushed out by S-E, it had an extremely short dev cycle and was fairly low budget.
Naka was the game's director until near the end when he was fired or perhaps he quit, I forgot.

carrotcakeag8d ago

@Chocoburger Yeah they did fire and replace him which caused him to unload a bunch of rants about the company. The project only existed because of Naka in the first place, he convinced Square to give him one shot at making a platformer. They gave him an opportunity but pulled the rug out before he was done for reasons not explained.
