Abort, Retry, Fail: Gaming’s Biggest Disappointments of 2012

The game industry keeps changing, and the games we play along with it. Each year turns out to be more tumultuous than the one before, with no end in sight. Some gamemakers are able to navigate these waters better than others. But even if they are generally able to make the transition from old models to new ones, there are still going to be bumps in the road — many of which affect players.

This year, the things that disappointed the Wired staff weren't just bad games — they included inelegant aspects of good games that dragged down the experience, questionable choices by game publishers that caused excellent games to get overlooked or damaged, and shaky launches of new gaming hardware that are either opening-night jitters or a sign the whole production's going to go under.

Agree with the list. Vita is easily biggest letdown/flop this year.

101% disagree.

One thing not on the list is Medal of Honor Warfighter. That was a letdown for me. I wasn't going in with high expectations, but even with low expectations it wasn't good. The online is a complete mess.

The whole year has been disappointing for me. There has not been any games this year that I have been excited for. I wanted Black Ops 2, but that game turned out awful. 2011 was one of the best years I can remember and the following year has just fell flat. Portal 2, Mortal Kombat, Batman, Uncharted, gears 3, Dark Souls, Skyrim, Dead Space 2, LBP2, Mass Effect 2, Killzone 3, Infamous 2, Deus Ex, Mario 3d Land, Skyward Sword, Rayman Origins, Saints 3, Mario Kart 7,

Best year of the generation. I don't think I have bought any new releases this year aside from Black Ops. I am probably commiting a sin by not getting Dishonored and Sleeping Dogs, though. They are on my to do list. Oh, and Borderlands 2.

Next year is going to top everything.

Your right. Someone ask me what are my top ten favorite games that released in 2012. I couldn't name more than 4. Journey and PASBR are the only really good games I played this year that came out this year. New Super Mario Bros. 2 could be mentioned as well but it wasn't amazing.

the biggest and most epic failure of the decade:

JOURNALISM

why? trying to kill consoles(PS3 and PSVita) with their BS and failing miserably.

Krew_924146d ago

No. The most epic fail thing is websites that make you click next for each item.

I don't care if the item itself just refreshed, but the whole website? No thanks.

I disagree with ME3 and PS Vita.
