Diablo III Running on Consoles at Blizzard

Blizzard has announced that Diablo III is currently running on consoles, though it hasn't yet been granted the status of an "official project".

Speaking to Polygon, Blizzard executive Rob Pardo explained that the team was testing to see how the game performed on unspecified consoles, which would in turn lead to official ports should it go well enough.

"We're still kind of exploring it," he explained. "We've got builds up and running on it. We're hoping to get it far enough along where we can make it an official project, but we're not quite ready to release stuff about it, but it's looking pretty cool."

1 big pro if it does come to console's, no bots to ruin the entire gold economy like they did on pc.

Godchild10204144d ago

I hope they keep the Auction house, so 360, PS3 and/or WiiU owners can make a money. Even if it does just do to our network wallets.

I'll just be happy to play the game on consoles.

Psychonaughty4144d ago

The AH ruined the game on pc so I hope not.

alien6264144d ago

Hopefully is for Vita also. i think D3 for Vita will be awesome

Bimkoblerutso4144d ago

Yeah, I hope to god they do away with the auction house AND the "always on" BS if they bring it over.

Blizzard keeps saying that they didn't tweak the drops in the game to facilitate the usage of their AH, but I still have my doubts. It is very, VERY time consuming to get through Inferno without resorting to the auction house at some point.

Daver4144d ago

The game is not even worth playing. Just move away and try to repair those mistakes with Diablo 4...

PurpHerbison4144d ago

You could also try Path Of Exile in the mean time.

Bimkoblerutso4144d ago

Or Torchlight 2, which really feels like more of a sequel to Diablo 2 than Diablo 3 ever did.

HappyCamper1724143d ago

Daver speaks the Truth.

I regret every penny paid for it.

DirtyLary4142d ago

1 Con will be using anything ranged. With analog controller sticks , exact aiming is going to be nasty. Better stick to aoe splash damage. Melee will do fine with this. I'm sure there will be bots. Especially on the xbox side of things.

Canary4144d ago

Not surprising. After being able to max it out w/ my old 4850, I remember checking out the lowest settings... while maybe not up to PS2 standards, on its lowest settings Diablo III certainly doesn't look like anything an original Xbox or Gamecube couldn't handle.

And, hell, apparently even an integrated Intel GPU can handle it.

Say what you will about Diablo III's myriad flaws, Bethesda really hit it out of the park in terms of optimization and hardware scaling.

"Say what you will about Diablo III's myriad flaws, Bethesda really hit it out of the park in terms of optimization and hardware scaling."

Psst, It's made by Blizzard not Bethesda....

Canary4144d ago (Edited 4144d ago )

Whoops. Guess that came from spending the last few hours of the morning re-installing Skyrim and about 100 different mods.

Just be glad I didn't say Black Isle.

EDIT: and are people disagreeing with me because of the typo, or are there people (read: morons) actually disagree with my objectively true points?

guitarded774144d ago

We're disagreeing with you because of the typo. But it's funny as all hell, so we bubble you up for "funny".

Game would be a natural fit on the Wii U with the gamepad.

adorie4144d ago

Seeing as how the gamepad is supposedly a battery hog, you'd be best to have 2 gamepads around, because lag spikes or a dead controller in the middle of an encounter will leave you with a repair bill or worse, if you're playing on Hard Core, a dead toon.

Neonridr4144d ago

I don't play games for more than 2-3 hours in a stretch, so I am fine for using the gamepad. There is a 3rd party battery coming out that supposedly will double the playtime of the gamepad.

As for lag spikes, they don't exist. The gamepad updates sometimes faster than the TV does. Latency is under 1/60th of a second.

gpturbo814144d ago (Edited 4144d ago )

@adorie how hard is it to plug in the fuckin ac adapter. whiner

ozzywazzy4144d ago

The Auction House and bots murdered this game. It wasn't even good to begin with. Blizzard has adopted Activision's policies. Rushed half-assed game for maximum profit.

kostchtchie_4144d ago

game was already designed with console in mind anyway, the reason is sucked so badly on PC, just glad they keep the D2 battle realm alive, have just been playing D2 classic as normal, so thanks for that at least blizzard

Lord_Sloth4144d ago

It's always so easy to spot PC elitists.

kostchtchie_4141d ago

no i own ps3, and few handhelds mate, fact is d3 was already designed with console in mind, look at d2 then look back at d3, when i said it sucked i did not mean because of the consoles, but the way they designed the game and game play, sorry if i come across hating on console, that was not my intention

shackdaddy4144d ago (Edited 4144d ago )

Nah. Blizzard ruined D3 by themselves. Consoles had nothing to do with this one.

The Greatest Video Game Comeback Stories in Gaming History

Who says a dud game can't have a video game comeback?

Cyberpunk and No Man's Sky have to be up there. We're lucky and cursed, equally, to have games that can be updated now. For folks old enough to remember the Sega/SNES into PS1 and even 2 eras, if a game came out that was half baked (*cough*Angel of Darkness*cough*) that was it, no redemption. At the same time, having the option for updates shouldn't be an excuse for half assing games.

thorstein75d ago

I remember when the Nintendo Seal of Approval meant something.

All those games had to release without bugs.

shinoff218376d ago

Comebacks shouldnt be a thing in videogames. Just saying.

Diablo III - Still a Huge Draw in the Face of Diablo IV

Diablo III still works on modern PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and remains hugely playable a decade after initial release.

Palitera384d ago

Are you comparing a continuously improved 10+ years old masterpiece with the... beta of an unreleased game?

kevco33384d ago

Heh, yeah. There's no comparison in here! Its a commentary on how III is still very playable over a decade later.
