Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale PS3 Review [Capsule Computers]

Joshua Spudic of Capsule Computers writes:

"Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale pits twenty characters from the Playstation universe in four player battles to see which character is supreme. A concept as old as video games themselves (well, not really), the crossover genre brings in a new challenger, one worth inserting into your Playstation 3. Solid fighting gameplay that offers hours of content for both the single and multiplayer in all of us is just one ingredient in this excellent game. Fantastic visuals, a soundtrack that is heavenly to the human ears and an excellent roster elevates PS All-Stars to the rank of a must have game."

Tried it on my friend's Vita yesterday. I was really surprised on how smooth it felt. Vita's console is very powerful but it really need AAA games that can fully utilize it. Definitely gonna buy a Vita when that happens.

I'm not quite sure about All Stars yet though. I was sure it would include many modes, extras, cutscenes with interaction with the different characters and unlockable characters but when it didn't I felt a bit disappointed. I see no reason in playing it alone like I could with SSBB. I'm not saying any of the games are better but All Stars need more extras in my opinion.

The Vita needs games, and not old rehashed/chewed-up franchises. New IP's or die.

Who DIDN'T want a perfect Playstation SSB clone? I sure as hell did. Rip 'em off. Everyone does.

This game is great, its amazing tho how much hate this game received. I don't see why haters are soo strongly against of the idea or the thought that other companies can't and shouldn't do their own take on a ssb game.

Mykky4148d ago

The source of the hate is just ignorant Nintendo and Sony fanboys that have only played one of the games.

-Nintendo fanboys hate that Sony makes a game that looks like Super Smash (but in reality plays completely different)

-Sony fanboys is saying that Super Smash is stupid and All Stars is ten times better.

People is saying that's just their opinion but you can't base a opinion on something you have not tried or watched. Hate the hate.

And in short, there's no middle ground...

OhMyGandhi4148d ago

no. actually, I love SSB and have a ps3.
I -want- a SSB clone.
in other words, there is a middle ground, cater to the needs of those who wish to have a brawler on the ps3.

Hell the lead designer on All Stars SAID that this game was SPECIFICALLY meant for those who want SSB-like experience on a different console.

As I asked before, Are you guys happy about All Stars as it turned out? or were you expecting something different?

Nexgensensation4148d ago

the source of the hate comes from gamers who generally thought this game would be good until they played the game!

2.) this industry as of now is a bunch of copy and paste and sequels, so saying its like smash bros. is not even the tip of the hate.

3.) its quite obvisous that this game was suppose to be Playstation smash bros. and instead of following the idea and adding more to the style of genre, they cut short.

4.) if they didnt want to be compared to smash bros. why would they make a mash up like this anyway? if this game is so damn near perfect what do you think about digimon rumble arena? both digimon and PSASBR have damn near identical game play.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Launched 10 Years Too Early

Though PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale is a bit of a cult classic, it could have been a big hit if it launched in 2022 instead of 2012.

It wouldn't have mattered, Sony would've rushed it out and left it to die. More so now than before with their focus now being on SP narrative driven AAA games.

CrimsonWing69513d ago

Oh, but somehow Smash Bros. 64 made it work?

It just couldn’t compete with Smash Bros. and it wasn’t a free-to-play game like Multiversus.

PapaBop513d ago

I think it released at the right time. It's just after the success of Smash and Multiversus, it's finally time for a sequel.

spoonard513d ago

I'd be all in on a remake or remaster of the original. I enjoyed it because I didn't sit there and compare every aspect to SSB. I just enjoyed it as it was.

Magatsuhi513d ago

Sony should make part 2 and dump a good amount of money on it. Scrap super only kills and it's bound to succeed.

Father__Merrin513d ago

Yes the power kills spoilt it completely WTH was they thinking you should have hp bar that's it

God of War: Ragnarok Weirdly Makes PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Canon

God of War: Ragnarok has plenty of fun references to PlayStation history, but now fans have discovered a conversation that calls back to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale — the crossover fighting game released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

Nyxus521d ago

I wouldn't say canon. More like an easter egg.

Deathdeliverer520d ago

That’s interesting. It actually does make it canon lol. He mentioned it in a mainline game. I’d say that’s pretty cool.
