GraveLord4151d ago

Dark/Demon Souls is pre-Skyrim. Give credit where credit is due.

MikeMyers4151d ago

Will this be on Next Gen systems, including the Wii U?

SilentNegotiator4151d ago (Edited 4151d ago )

Demon/Dark Souls really reinvigorated my passion as a gamer. No announcement could make me ruin my panties any harder.

@Mike
Yes, I'm sure it will be on all the current gen systems.
ZING.

trenso14151d ago

i thought it was going to be the new skyrim dlc with the way the announcer described it, and was so happy to see it was dark souls 2.

NegativeCreepWA4150d ago

I knew what she was going too announce just a few words in to her description.

ThanatosDMC4150d ago

As long as it's From Software, we have nothing to worry about...

Only thing i didnt like that From Software did was the downgrade of AC4A to AC5.

Why is this 360 tagged? Sony owns the DARK SOUL IP so no way in hell its coming to the Xbox.

Edit: My bad, yes I was thinking about Demon Souls...have not played Dark Souls 1 yet but from what I heard its just as good if not better that Demon Soul...can someone confirm this?

@ Alpha - Yes I really hope we see another Demon Souls game but not sure if its going to be the same with out the same developers.

Sony should give it to Santa Monica studio, those guys would do the game justice.

Neckbear4151d ago

Sony owns the Demon's souls IP, not the Dark Souls one. Dark Souls was on the 360.

Forbidden_Darkness4151d ago (Edited 4151d ago )

You're thinking about Demons Souls, not Dark Souls. Dark Souls is multiplatform.

@Neckbear: You beat me too it haha

Kennesu4151d ago

Sony owns the Demons Souls ip not Dark Souls m8

-Alpha4151d ago (Edited 4151d ago )

I wonder if we will ever see Demon's Souls II

Sony is missing out

SilentNegotiator4151d ago

Sony really let Demon's Souls IP get away from them as an exclusive. Because really, Dark Souls is Demon's Souls 2 in almost everything but name.

I don't care, but I would think Sony would.

JoySticksFTW4150d ago

"I heard its just as good if not better that Demon Soul...can someone confirm this?"

Both are great games. Both are similar, and have their positives.

I personally like Demon's Souls better for the atmosphere, level design, story behind each arch stone, and better stat-scaling and online.

Now Dark Souls has levels that interconnect in a Metroid / Symphony of the Night kind of way, more armor / weapon upgrade paths, and Estus Flasks to eliminate near infinite herb-munching healing.

Dark Souls also added the bonfire checkpoint system, which some say makes the game easier. I don't think so though.

When people talk of restarting the whole level upon death in Demon's Souls, it seems that they forget the shortcuts that can be opened along the way to bypass most if not all of the levels' dangers. You can actually hop out of the Nexus and be at the bosses door in a couple of minutes or less.

I also feel that Dark Souls almost tries to push you into close combat with bosses. It's either close quarters, multiple boss enemies, the boss will rush you down, or the safest place to be is right next to the boss where it will whiff most of it's attacks or do very little damage if managing to hit (other than that one telegraphed grab / aeo / super move each has).

You really do need to learn to shoot / cast on the move.

But then again, a bow user with poison arrows can trivialize a few of the most frustrating areas, like Sen's Fortress. Snipe ahead and simply concentrate on traps at your leisure.

Eh, I can go on. I really like the games. They both have their nuances, but if you had fun with Dark Souls, you'll most-likely have fun with Demon's Souls.

HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLY FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

yeahokchief4150d ago (Edited 4150d ago )

HAHA! YESSSSSSSSSS! BEST NEWS ALL DAY!

CAN'T WAIT!

Demon's Souls and Dark Souls were unquestionably my game of the years for 2009 and 2011! Best DLC for 2012 too!

Badass cinema scenes here! I wonder who these new masked enemies are and how they fit into the lore.

It looks as though there might be some sort of new trading system beyond dropping things on the ground with they way they make a point of showing the one character pass off the feather to another.

Awesome_Gamer4150d ago

I'm almost crying right now, so damn excited, I love this series, Demon's/Dark Souls are by the best Rpgs this gen imo.

Gamer19824150d ago

I don't get it.. Dark Souls was the name of a sequel. So its a sequel of a sequel? Yeah that makes sense..

brodychet4150d ago

Lol so I'm sure you didn't appreciate Final Fantasy 13-2 ... Or Call of duty black ops 2, or anything that branches off of anything ever.

DragonKnight4150d ago

Dark Souls was NOT a sequel. It was a spiritual successor. It's akin to FF games being different to each other except for the direct sequels.

Hidetaka Miyazaki claims Dark Souls 2 “carried” the series forward

Dark Souls 2 remains a divisive entry in the landmark RPG franchise, but Hidetaka Miyazaki believes it led to the success of Elden Ring.

The game isn't good though.

Rols53d ago

DS2 was fine. While there was a bit of recycling assets or ideas for bosses, it was a bigger more open Dark Souls. The Fume knight boss is one of the hardest bosses in the series until Sekiro and Elden Ring were released.

CrimsonWing6953d ago

The problem with Dark Souls 2 was the same problem when a different director takes over for a sequel to an outstanding movie. It typically (there are exceptions) doesn’t have the feel and vision of the previous movie.

I wouldn’t say Dark Souls 2 is terrible. Had Dark Souls 1 never been a thing and we got this, I think it would have been praised more. The problem is it didn’t have the Miyazaki touch to it and felt pretty derivative. The soundtrack is a banger though.

Aussiesummer53d ago

And it will happen in the future when he doesn’t touch them as he is planning on.

MrBaskerville53d ago

I like DS 2, might even be my favorite of the 3. But it's a hard sell, there's so many obscure things you need to do to make it an enjoyable experience. So always find it hard to recommend, but it is worth the trouble.
