Analyst believes Xbox 360 was the big Black Friday winner in the US

Analyst Doug Creutz believes Xbox 360 was the star performer in the US video games market in November.

DiRtY4151d ago

1.3 million consoles in just one month in the US only for a 7 year old console is just impressive.

I don't think this has been done before.

guitarded774151d ago

It is very impressive... interesting to see how many people are just getting into this generation, buying a 2nd XBOX or getting an alternate console to game on. Whichever console people bought, they will have a deep library of titles to play. Even Wii U will have a deep library if you include all the Wii, WiiWare and Virtual Console titles.

shutUpAndTakeMyMoney4151d ago (Edited 4151d ago )

Is it just me or is the extreme focus on the US is annoying? Who cares about world wide sales right?

Doesn't matter 360 will still probably be 3rd place at the end of the day.

Agheil4151d ago

I agree in the hype for US sales when it comes to the Xbox, but read the title friend "Black Friday". Doesn't really happen in a lot of places you get me.

Dms20124151d ago

Then submit a story about worldwide sales, problem solved.

AAWELLS094150d ago

Why do even care? It seems a little childish to care right?

TheTwelve4150d ago

Xbox is 3rd place probably as I as type this.

TheBatman_Fanatic4150d ago

That's why people think the 360 is outselling the PS3 worldwide....

rainslacker4150d ago

Because that's an impressive number regardless of location?

US consumerist holiday.
US's favorite console.

Is it a mystery or something? Should I ring Mr. Sherlock?

SilentNegotiator4150d ago

I understand why some people would disagree.....I said "Mr. Sherlock" when his last name is "Holmes"

I sincerely apologize :(
lol

MsmackyM4150d ago

I would like to see how many households added the Xbox. I know it's only anecdotal but everytime I hear someone getting one this late in the cycle its a replacement. Which is undetstandable since they are tied to the system with game libraries and friends.

Well, contextually, yes - the 360 sold the most consoles on Black Friday.

But saying there's a big win to be had on that particular day is like arguing the final shot in a war matters if no one gets hit by it. Sales of IPs and preparation for next-generation technology are already supremely important, and we'll only get the full picture of how important Black Friday was this year months from now.

Neonridr4151d ago

It would have been more interesting say Nintendo had an unlimited supply of Wii U's available for purchase. But regardless, Microsoft made out like bandits for sure.

Conan-O-Brady4151d ago (Edited 4151d ago )

It wouldn't have made a big difference. Wii U's are still sitting on store shelves in my area and a quick search on the web shows they're plentiful at other locales. I think that a 3 month earlier launch would've helped. You'd be surprised how many people still aren't aware that Nintendo just launched a new console....

Neonridr4150d ago

yeah, in my area it's the complete opposite. They are pretty hard to find. If you are willing to settle for a basic model then yes, you can find them. But the Deluxe is a ghost around me.

OC_MurphysLaw4151d ago

My big take away from the holiday / black friday sales was the industry had a relatively "healthy" hardware month for the first time in about 10+ months.

WeAreLegion4151d ago

Agreed. This is wonderful for the industry, despite year-on-year decline.

MadMen4151d ago

There is no "believing"

It was, fact.

WeAreLegion4151d ago

YOU. DON'T. SAY?!?!?!?!

It's the 360. It's the US.

70 percent of devs unsure of live-service games sustainability

With so many games fighting for players' attention and interest losing out over time, time sink games are at risk of eventually losing steam.

It was worrisome to begin with.

It's a niche genre with only a handful of hits that can stand the test of time.

Cacabunga7h ago

I like the sound of that!! I will for sure never support these gaas games.
Sony must be shocked at gamer's reaction, making them cancel a few of these and hopefully go back to the good heavy hitters they had us used to..
now bring on that PSPro reveal and show us some SP 1st party awesomeness.

CrimsonWing691d 4h ago

What’s to be unsure of!? Look at the ratio of success to failure!

DarXyde11h ago

It's pretty ridiculous.

Imagine having a breadth of data at your disposal to see the statistically low success rate of these games, only to be laser focused on the exceptional case studies.

shinoff21831d 2h ago

Yes. Stop all the live service bs.

jznrpg1d 2h ago

Only a few will catch on. You need a perfect storm to be successful in GaaS and a bit of luck on top of that. But a potential cash cow will keep them trying and some will go out of business because of it.

MIDGETonSTILTS171d 2h ago

Helldivers 2 manages just fine…

Keep production costs low… don’t just make custscenes until the mechanics and enemies are perfected first.

Make so much content that you can drip extra content for years, and the game already feels complete without them.

Most importantly: make weapons, enemies, levels, and mechanics that will stand the test of 1000 hours. This might require more devs embracing procedurally generated leveled, which I think separates Helldivers 2 from Destiny’s repetitiveness.

The Battle Pass Is The Worst Thing To Happen To Modern Gaming

Nameer from eXputer: "Some exceptions aside, I don't think the battle pass is a net positive for gaming with how they're implemented in most live service titles."

got_dam1d 6h ago

Battle passes AND meta gaming both.

DivineHand1251d 4h ago (Edited 1d 4h ago )

I like the way Helldivers 2 does battle passes. It allows you to make purchases on each level of the battle pass and gives you the option of choosing which item to unlock first. The more purchases you make using medals the further you progress. There is no timer and you can earn medals towards purchasing stuff via personal orders and Major orders.

I haven't played much live service games that have battle passes but I remember some games that have battle passes where you progress through it linearly using an exp system. What makes it really bad is that the battle pass will have like 50 or more levels with the cooler stuff being closer to the end. They also have an in-game shop that sells exp boosters so you can reach the end of the pass before it refreshes. Everyone ilse will have to grind their way through.

lucian2291d 3h ago

battle pass in fortnite is perfect; buy one and it buys the rest for every other season as it gives you more money than the first cost. so 8.50 and season ends with you getting 13.00, it pays for the next and you have some pocket change to save up for cash shop. All of which is optional
