Best PS3 Games of 2012

GameZone writes, "Can you believe that 2012 is almost over? It seems like just yesterday I was getting hyped for the release of Twisted Metal and Starhawk. As most fans would agree, those are only a taste of the impressive, highly anticipated exclusives that PlayStation 3 saw this year. When it was all said and done, 2012 wasn't about the release of AAA blockbuster games on PS3; rather, it was the smaller titles that shined, showing us that games can still be innovative, emotional, and impactful."

Journey. Best game of 2012.

aquamala4152d ago (Edited 4152d ago )

Just like 2011 , the best games this year are multi plats

Borderlands 2
ACreed 3
Dishonored
Far Cry 3
Xcom
Mass Effect 3
Hitman

TheFirstClassic4152d ago

I have to disagree with that about 2011. The exclusives that year at least matched the multiplats in my opinion.

Infamous 2
lbp 2
Uncharted 3
Killzone 3
Resistance 3
Skyward Sword

Those were some of my favorite games last year. This year hasn't been as great for exclusives though. All Stars and Halo 4 are the only ones I was in to.

aquamala4152d ago

You think that list match this list?

Arkham City
Portal 2
BF3
Skyrim
Dark Souls
Saints row 3
Deus Ex

TheFirstClassic4152d ago (Edited 4152d ago )

From a metacritic point of view, no, but in my opinion? Yeah. Portal 2 was awesome, as was dark souls, but I didn't like bf3 much, it felt so stale compared to bc2. Skyrim was practically broken upon release, I don't really like Saints Row, and I haven't played Deus Ex or Batman yet.

I forgot to include Gears 3 in my list btw. Haven't played Forza but that was supposed to be excellent. But yeah, throw Gears and Forza in there, and I think it was pretty close. If you only counted one system's exclusives it wouldn't match the multiplats though. I just perferred most exclusives last year, not like my opinion is fact of course.

finally, a console-specific list that actually keeps to the specific system rather than list a bunch of multiplatform games.

Not a single Reistance? Fuck this article.

Starhawk over Warhawk?...... Dude, NO ONE should listen to you.

Odd choices for "best" more like you settled as these being the "best" that available to you at the time, cause a lot of these blow or were average to poor performers that ended up in bargain bin.

Missing too many great sci-fi titles here. The Void, The Resistance Series, Killzone 2 and 3, Enslaved, man.. there were so many, this is redicu-list.

FreeckyCake7d ago

Nobody should listen to you either with that attitude.

I agree that Starhawk shouldn't be above Warhawk, however I must say that Starhawk multiplayer was incredible for its time! Many people wrote it off bc the single player was quite terrible, bc it was basically 1 huge tutorial for the multiplayer. But I can tell you never spent any significant amount of time in MP. It was doing incredibly tense base building w air, foot and land vehicle (and mech!) combat long before Fortnite was ever a thing.

I bet it would have been much better received if it had just ditched the story mode all together. So many people like yourself completely wrote it off based on reviews by reviewers that let the criticism of single player weigh heavily on their scores. I bet you didn't even play it.

The riddick games are some of the best stealth titles ever, highly underrated

YourMommySpoils6d ago

What games? All recall plating was Escape from Butcher Bay.

Friendlygamer6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

There's also the less acclaimed 'assault on dark Athena'

( also, not saying this to you specifically but there's both resistance and killzone games on the list, it's amazing how even something so simple and innocent as a game list can be turned into misinformed vitriol here lol )

Glad to see Resonance of Fate. Enslaved was pretty good too. I’m sure there are others nobody has listed but I’m too tired to try and think of anything

All I ask for is a new Twisted Metal that allows flat screen & PSVR2 cross play that also supports a wheel.
Would be heaven.

Babadook7272d ago

Wow. I like the idea of VR twisted metal with a wheel.

Rebel_Scum271d ago

They need to get the enemy AI balance right. Thats what made 2 the best in the series. Black was abysmal in that dept.

neomahi271d ago

You don't. Do sequels. If you've gotta reboot, might as well do a new IP. God of War is the only game I can say that did a successful reboot

TiredGamer271d ago (Edited 271d ago )

Isn’t the new GoW just a sequel technically?

I personally think they can leverage the roots of the series. The original TM in 1995 took place on Christmas Eve 2005, and it was the 10th contest in history. Why not “reboot” the franchise by making a prequel of sorts showing the origin story of the series and maybe linking all the future games in a brilliant way. Seems like such an obvious idea to leverage old with the new (kind of look how Doom 2016 did with its lore).

Knightofelemia271d ago

Just make it a good game Twisted Metal has it's fan base.
