"It may be gift-giving season, but PlayStation Plus delivers gaming gifts all year round, and this week is no exception. While many of you might still be getting acquainted with the PS Vita Plus games, PS3 gamers can welcome BioShock 2 into their Instant Game Collection. Download it for free if you’re a Plus member when the PlayStation Store updates on Tuesday."
One of the most popular video game franchises of all time is set to receive a Netflix film adaptation, according to an announcement on Tuesday afternoon.
Gee...can't wait to see how many things they change and stray away from, oh don't forget the miscast actors
I have such high hopes because the first game is so near and dear to me. That being said, I'm sure they will mess it up. I'm hoping it's adult rated, and violent. I want to see a Big Daddy put that drill to good use :P
They're great at butchering stuff but there have also been some gems and surprises.
I never in my life thought I'd like a series based on League of Legends but it was pretty great.
Maybe just maybe they'll do Bioshock justice.
Priority checklist
- Pander to POC
- Pander to woman
- Pander to LGBTQ
- Story
In that order
Damn! It sure sucks when white men aren't the sole focus of everything! Why can't these fringe groups be kept on the fringes like the good ole days?!? /s
Netflix did well with Dare Devil and the Punisher and I hear the Witcher is pretty good I know when I had Netflix at the time Stranger Things was also good. But Bioshock I love the franchise Bioshock Infinite is my favorite game I would pay the $21 Canadian just to check out Bioshock. Normally I would never renew my Netflix after they did their price hike but Bioshock would be worth it.
When firing on all cinders, Netflix do produce some brilliant stuff so I am not feeling pessimistic at all here. If Netflix deliver to their potential then this could be incredible given the quality of the source material. Personally, I am quite excited.
Agreed, Netflix originals etc are fantastic in general, it's rare I don't like something they do.
Certainly not feeling negative with Netflix doing bioshock quite the opposite infact.
Bu bu bu bu but what about Cowboy Beebop though? That was a little miss opportunity. Just a little nervous that Bioshock could turn to crap 💩 like that show. If they do a Horizon Zero Dawn show, I hope they don’t screw that up as well. I know a few good actresses that could play Aloy like Jon Snow’s girlfriend from Game of Thrones, and his wife in real life. Definitely see Aloy in her.
Netflix does a lot of great things, recently finished the first season of Arcane and it was brilliant.
Arkane was so damn good.
I just hope they keep up the quality with later releases.
I'm not even a LoL player.
I’m sure they will, I don’t play the games either, I love the fact that I didn’t need to play them to enjoy it.
Arcane was insanely good imo, I was hooked almost all the way. Im not sure of this but i think Netflix didnt have much to do with the production of the show? More like they just bought the rights to have it exclusively on there?
Some of their original shows are really good so im quite hopeful this might turn out to be a good show. Lets hope they wont F it up.
Love Bioshock but I'll prepare myself for the likelihood this will be both crap and a pale imitation of the source material. That covers most video game adaptations and Netflix films.
I meant Netflix films in general, there are some good ones but most are average at best in my experience. Castlevania is good but I didn't like The Witcher, although it is successful.
Not sure if there are any live action video game film adaptations on Netflix as yet but they don't have a great track record.
@ Nacho
For movies, I think it’s very difficult to cram he narrative from a 10+ hour game into 2 hours. I think that’s why series are much better suited for video game adaptations. Seems we have a bunch coming up, so we’ll see how well it plays out.
Has the potential to be great but Netflix can't help themselves so it will demonstrate the triumph of Marxism over the greedy racist individual.
YES! To this day I feel like the first bioshock was a masterpiece. They NEED to bring back that psychological twist, it MADE the game for me, literally had me in awe at how well voiced and executed this game was.
Point of these games is to escape the need of the flat film format. The experience was already conveyed and it was amazing (it's too bad some viewers will not know these experiences). Now to make it palatable, a director and crew that have no association with the IP or the heart-driven creative process are going to splatter their nonsensical "what works for them" bs into it by casting what sells and bring to a bigger audience. Shi7 like the uncharted movie. That casting and retelling seems completely unnecessary, but it is for certain audiences, and I am not that audience. My format is the game.
Great premise, the story is pretty much laid out for them. Saying that, they will probably miss cast and bludgeon the lore and plot which we know and love.
MK Legacy was nice but it was low budget and pretty pretty short. The first movie however was just flawless
Netflix has put out some great stuff. Just Ozark for instance is one of, if not my favorite show of all time. Money Heist was very good. I haven't watched The Witcher. I like that genre of games, and movies. I just don't want to watch a series, in that category. Maybe one day I will check an episode out.
Well if anyone can do it justice I'm confident it's Netflix. They nailed the Witcher in my opinion! At least it's not going to be some big budget over bloated crap fest like 99% of Hollywood makes out of game franchises.
I can see it now big daddies will be called protectors, little sisters will be little ones that are all gender ambiguous. Elizabeth will be a purple haired Brolic man hating person named Liz. Andrew Ryan will be Asian and named Andrew Chang. Splicers will be a diverse cast of hipsters. The hero Jack will be a gay black man. Awesome.
The best games are able to create a never-before-seen setting and weave a completely engaging story into its DNA. One series beats almost all others out for its environmental storytelling and narrative: BioShock.
IMO Infinite is better than 2... The only thing I remember from 2 is playing as a little sister. It felt too much like Bioshock (which wasn't bad). Infinite was the right stepping stone.
Infinite was a huge step back. It played like a generic fps because it was dumbed down to be an fps and it's not at all the gameplay evolution Bioshock needed. It was a mindless shooter where story and it's world building took a backseat to repetitive shooting galleries against dumb AI while making you look for health in trash cans cause they removed mechanics that worked in favor for a more action oriented gameplay.
I think people are remembering Infinite all wrong.
It's story is a mess and it's world isn't as fleshed out as Rapture was in the first Bio.
@Inverno
"It was a mindless shooter where story and it's world building took a backseat to repetitive shooting galleries"
Sounds more applicable to Bioshock 2, tbh. B2 has wave-based gameplay where Subject Delta casually goes through large hordes of splicers to protect Little Sisters. C'mon. I still wouldn't call any of the Bioshocks mindless shooters though.
If you want to criticize the lack of the weapon wheel and the replacement of certain mechanics in Infinite in favour of increased mobility (e.g. addition of the sky-hook), fair enough, but the story and world-building of 2 are less memorable, noteworthy and interesting than Infinite by a huge margin. Most people don't even remember much beyond the basic premise of 2 (including any of the characters) because it felt so unnecessary. It's not even close.
"It's story is a mess and it's world isn't as fleshed out as Rapture was in the first Bio." Needing to use Bioshock 1 to criticize Infinite instead of 2 is an admission that 2's story is the weakest.
@Inverno
I remember it being very imaginative and a breath of fresh air, while still being familiar. The last hour or two was big on shooting.
Infinite was the most boring and repetitive in terms of gameplay. It lost the suspenseful atmosphere of the first 2
Am I reading that backwards or are you really shocked that people like infinite more than 2?
Just wanna make sure I have it right because you're literally the first person I've seen say that 2 is better.
I understand 2 is more of the same but I much prefer more of the same than going backwards in terms of gameplay. It wasn't the step in the right direction. But thats just my opinion, I'm not surprised at all. Just to me I much rather the first 2. However what they had planned for Infinite originally sounded very interesting and it sucks we won't ever see it
Imo 2 is tied with 1 as my favorite Bioshock. The gameplay is the natural evolution of the first, with more freedom to experiment. The story and locales are more intimate and less grandiose than you would see in a Ken Levine story. I love the atmospheric break of the underwater sections and never understood the hate for them. All 3 games have pacing issues but imo 2’s are less severe. The level design has a lot of ex-Looking Glass alumnis and is generally more open ended.
The endings are more tailored to your moral choices than the other games.
Infinite hedges on a admittedly cool twist that is poorly executed when scrutinized. The gameplay takes a huge step back, it isnt the game that early gameplay and trailers promised. The world is less fleshed out. It was prescient politically and that makes it interesting but otherwise i have no desire to replay it.
Hurts to see the word "worst" related to Bioshock saga.
The 3 games are masterpieces.
oh great. Can’t wait to see the posts of game titles in a ranked order without context as to why.
I wish I could replay them as if I was playing them for the first time. All of the Bioshock games are amazing.
I bought the trilogy a while back. I played 1 and 2. They were fun. I still have to play the 3rd one.
Infinite's ending doesn't narratively work for me because (spoilers) the versions of Booker that choose to keep being Booker don't become bad, why kill him?
There will be 😁 it’s not Levine though so who knows if it will stack up. I like to think they wouldn’t be reviving it if they didn’t have a good gameplan though.
Not sure why the expansions are being ranked as individual titles in the Bioshock series.
Insomniac Games gave some additional details regarding Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and provided a new screenshot with ray-traced puddles.
Take that puddle haters.
For comparison:
https://i.ibb.co/DgZ2R1r/su...
The one guy I liked was grounded gamer Fonzerelli and they roasted him for making good points and arguments. They all just had their heads in the sand.
Lost Legacy was also a DLC in some people's eyes.. Game was longer than Alan Wake and Gears.. Just saying.. Wipes the floor with each one of these technically too
No it is not. Between 20 and 30 hours for this stand alone, that means a new story around Mile Morales with better graphics and much more details and specific moves and power for Miles, yes it is still Manhathan but at another time after the first Spiderman this is a stand alone.
Damn!! Those puddles with Ray Tracing and particle effects in air. Cool so damn cool... Can't wait for Spidey..
This generation graphics are going to get a really nice upgrade with Ray Tracing for sure.
I hope this at least stops the theories that there is no Ray Tracing on PS5. Yeah, it's custom, but it's there. Which is much better than being absent.
No matter how much you give them proof but they will still make new bias theories..
They finally undid the suit downgrade that no one talked about. It's finally reflecting light again, get rekt people who used puddles as an excuse for the downgrade.
honestly you won't be able to make decisions like that consistantly for your video games unless you buy pc however i wouldn't be surprised if this ran at 60 or had a mode to
@dazzysima
You say you don't care about ray tracing, but it makes an enormous difference in not only image quality, but it also has the potential to change gameplay. I think gamers who haven't experienced ray tracing may not fully understand the difference it can make but it really is an enormous difference. Of course, you'll get much more out of it on pc than you will on console, but I digress.
You see, when you make comments like that you need to back it up with examples. How has ray tracing affected gameplay in your experience?
@zhipp
Example...you're playing an fps, single or multiplayer, and you're approaching the edge of a building by a cross street. Normal non ray traced gameplay, you peek your head around the corner, exposing yourself to threats because that is your only option. Ray traced game design has a strategically placed car glass or adjacent store shop window across the street s that you catch the glint of sunlight reflecting in, letting you look at the window of the car to see the corridor you are about to enter, without having to duck your head around the corner, thus not exposing yourself to the sniper that's waiting for you on the rooftop. It can change game design by simple implementations.
Thats... actually really cool. I was about to make a snarky comment about how all that can be achieved though more convencional means, but actually in a dynamic setting raytracing probably is the only(or at least best) way to incorporate that kind of stuff into gameplay organically.
I'd play it @1080p60 (checkerboard upscale to 4k) with ray tracing on.
Just like on PC, I have a choice to play games like metro exodus, control @native4k60 on my 4kTV.
but maxing the graphics effect with ray tracing on @ 1080p and upscaled using DLSS makes the
games look superior and make it looks somewhat like "next gen" playing at native 4k is not worth it.
Spider man and the infamous puddles 🤣
Will be impressive on PS5. I hope the first game has a PS5 upgrade.
I love they've deliberately shown the puddle. Great sense of humour. I think rumour is if you get this you get Spiderman with it so maybe it's unlocked framerate.
This is how companies embrace a meme and it feels natural and genuine, instead of forced like these "brutes" out here.
If it doesn't have ray-traced puddles, can we even really call it a next-gen game? or a game at all?
Anyone who needed a /s to see that this was tongue-in-cheek should be ashamed of themselves. Deeply, soul-crushingly ashamed of themselves.
also @waverider I think you replied to the wrong comment. If you did mean to write that as a response to my comment, work on your reading comprehension skills, because as a reply it makes no damn sense.
@joejoejoe
I assume that was meant as a diss to me, which would be relevant if I had explained the joke. Seeing as I didn't, I'm forced to assume that you either responded to the wrong comment or you need to work on your reading comprehension skills. Just like @waverider, actually. Is this my N4G curse or something? It's not that difficult to make a reply at least somewhat relevant. Or, you know, to read.
To be fair, when I wrote that second comment, my first comment had 3 dislikes to 1 like. And, as has been amply demonstrated in the responses to my comments, a lot of N4G users really can be breathtakingly dense. It was safe for me to assume originally that most people seriously thought I was banishing from the category of "game" anything that didn't have ray-traced puddles.
Now it has 11 likes to 4 dislikes, so perhaps the need for my second comment isn't so obvious now. Regardless, you should try double-checking your attempts to own people. For example, make sure the person you accuse of explaining a joke actually, y'know, explained a joke.
I can't wait to stop swinging around the city, stop having fun and go inspect the puddles on the road, just like real life!
Oh, you do that in real life too, Awesome. So glad i'm not alone!
Huh? Who does not stop and observe pudles in real life? You are a sick person if you don't lol!
@WelkinCole
Lol, right. You can't imagine the detail in the puddles, the different sizes and so on. Its the best side activity while swinging around the city in real life!
Those puddles better not be altered or moved in ANY way. You hear me Insomniac!? #Puddlegate
/s
THIS! In fact, I want puddles on sunny days too, puddles needs to be the new standard in games!
I know the screenshots are from photo mode but I predict this to be best graphics of any next gen launch game
Hate to say it but don’t really care about ray tracing. When looking for it, it’s incredible but while playing I don’t really notice.
I think consciously you probably won't notice it much, but that's the point. Good effects just feel natural and you don't really go oh that was cool. It's when it just passed you by and then you think about it later it didn't stand out because it fitted the world. Does that make sense? I think I explained it badly.
It's jarring in some games where the reflections totally don't match the scene. Or all the car windows have the same reflection texture.
Terrible but specific example - Rainbow Six 3 on OG Xbox, I think Airport 2 was the MP map. You're around a hangar. The cars in the map reflect the same non-existent mountain. Ubisoft games in general still kinda suffer from this
The whole point of raytracing is to provide the next-gen of graphics. New architecture has to be able to allow new graphical features otherwise the consoles will effectively just be more powerful versions the PS4/XB1.
"Insomniac Games gave some additional details regarding Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and provided a new screenshot with ray-traced puddles"
Wink-wink
Ha Ha
I finally finished the DLC and I'm ready to buy this day one. Insomniac is one of the most reliable developers around.
Is anyone worried about the quality of this game (and Ratchet & Clank)?
Their games are always polished and extremely fun to play. Hopefully Miles will have a ton of new gadgets 🔥
"The title will support 4K/60 FPS and reportedly comes with a remaster of the 2018 game."
Remaster of the 2018 game 🙌🏼
Absolute jokes at them trolling the trolls who winged about the removal of puddles in the first game and cried DOWNGRADE 😂
How about showing us some gameplay instead of some puddle picture.
If the game is a launch title well it’s mean that it will release in 3 months.
Gameplay footage should already be out now.
Fake worry about gameplay buddy. Seriously Insomniacs ain't going to let us down and they're consistent.
Consoles are probably coming in November, why would they bust their load now?
How about simply beating MS dead now.
With Ms having an average looking game that will be delayed it would seem that showing a Spider-Man gameplay that showcase the PS5 would be the natural nail in the coffin for this Christmas even if the console ends up more expensive no?
Also Sony is still competing for your $ and there’s a huge game called Cyberpunk releasing around the same time. I’m pretty sure that Sony would prefer that you buy their game before Cyberpunk!
Huge game cyberpunk thats gonan sell millions on ps4? Cyberpunk is close and only thing people are talking about is series x and ps5. When people buy the ps5 they probably will want actual ps5 hames first
"How about showing us some gameplay instead of some puddle picture."
Puddle pictures are big deal didn't you know? Insomniac almost got crucified for not showing puddles last time!
I know lol and I'm pretty sure that the next time we see Halo we will have picture of Craig before anything else.
It has been confirmed by insomniac as long as uncharted lost legacy.
Oh yes you will have the next gen Halo that shows the power of the xsx 12tflops... Naaaah M$ shows nothing since December 2019 they were blabla bla bla and then Playstation came, slap them and disappeared and at the end of this month they will finish the job with a teaser ingame of God of war and another exclusive game.
This game has such great potential to show off the benefits of raytracing. All those windows! Seeing your reflection in everything will really ground the character in the world. Playing the original, I always used to think it would be a great showcase for raytracing.
Is this game 4K with 60fps and ray tracing simultaneously? Or is one of them sacrificed to allow the others.
Are you trying to be ignorant or is this just how you go through life? It's confirmed 4k/60fps
Theres so many windows in this game and yet they chose to use puddles, which were a big issue in the last game, to show off the tech.
Why would they choose to do that
You can see him reflected in Windows in the trailer if you look closely and also in the shattered glass at the start of the trailer
This feels like petty revenge for puddlegate, and I love it.
Very well played, Insomniac. Bloody excellent.
Remember folks that this is the default 4k 30FPS settings that you get right off the bat with the game. You will be able to switch the graphics mode to Performance mode which will be 4k 60FPS and I assume ray traced reflections will not be present in performance mode in order to hit 60FPS at 4k.
Sweet, had Bioshock 1+2 in my Amazon cart multiple times but never pulled the trigger.
been sort of wanting to get this game again to play the singleplayer DLC since i got rid of the game before it had come out... this is the perfect excuse!
Bioshock 2 is basically free without plus...Once I get a vita I'll sign up, that side is looking nice.
What is "Return To Rapture"?? It says "Return To Rapture" is free with Bioshock 2, so what is it??
Idk why people complain about free stuff..but just so everyone knows, this only for one week of December..they still haven't revealed what's to come for the rest of the month.
