Who is the greatest videogame villain?

Villains. Love them or hate them, they’re a vital part of the videogame experience. No matter what form they come in, whether they be subtle (like Limbo’s underlying feeling of fear and hopelessness) or full frontal like Metal Gear Solid’s Liquid Snake, videogames just wouldn’t be what they are without them.

With this in mind, we here at Gamer Nation set out to discover just who is the greatest villain in a videogame, and came up with some very different answers…

As strange as it might sound Handsome Jack from Borderlands 2 was an awesome villain to me. I both hated and loved that smug yet oh so amusing bastard.

I also hold Saren from Mass Effect in high regard as a great villain. He was well written and toward the end I felt a great sympath for the buy, before blowing his head off, obviously. ha!

Handsome Jack was a bloody great villain! I loved him and his diamond pony.

Soylent_Green4156d ago

Yeah Saren was great, one of those villains whose agenda you can kind of agree with. Letho was great in witcher 2 but I'm not sure he counts as a villain. The helghast leaders Visari and Stahl were fantastic as well. They stand out out in a sea of generic space marine machoism.

Saren really wasn't a 'villian' though. He was more of a tragic hero.

Sovereign, however, was really good.

Nintendo is the greatest video game villain with their incremental hardware revisions and ploys to pull people in with gimmicks that doesnt improve gameplay but holding back gaming progress. That's why 3ds has one circle bad and bad graphics with resistive touch screen. Wii needed wiimotion plus and it had bad graphics. Super Mario Wii u is in 2d with cartoon graphics like super Nintendo. Skyward sword had rubbish controls and bad graphics which seem like it was dlc for Zelda oot. The Wii u is worst than ps3 and xbox. The online system on Wii u is terrible. There are negatives all around Nintendo

Another great villain is shao Kahn

Yeah screw them for daring to try something different while everyone else hides in a comfort zone!!!

Nintendo took a huge leap of faith introducing a new way to game with the wiinote, which could've bankrupt them had it failed. They actually introduced gaming to a new unsucessfully tapped market(females, middle age, and seniors) expanding/growing the video game industry. They grew the industry to a level never achieved before.

After the Wii, some of these Wii gamers might quit gaming. However, some might continue gaming and venture into other gaming options like the more traditional style of gaming. Basically, the Wii might have served as their gateway to mainstream gaming.

Now they're video games worst villain?? What a silly statement to make, and even sillier reasons.

I'm bewildered as to how you have 2 bubbles.

ratcop224156d ago

Well technically. The ps3 and 360 are somewhat gimmicky themselves. The last true hardcore gaming console was the Sega Dreamcast.

Was Ocelot a villain though? In the end it tuned out Zero was the big bad of the metal gear universe.

Diver4156d ago

exactly right. ocelot liquid vamp, none of them were villains. zero the patriots and the system were the real bad guys.

JoshuaLive4156d ago

Arguably though, you could say that makes him a great villain.

Similarly with Big Boss in MGS3, whilst strictly not a villain in the end, she really adds to the emotional impact of the game.

majiebeast4156d ago

Kessler because the reasoning behind why he does it is just bat shit crazy.

DragonKnight4156d ago

I don't know. I mean he lost his family and knew he had the power to prevent it if he acted sooner, so he decided that he would act sooner. A lot sooner. Lol.

Wanted: Dead VR is Amazing (UEVR Mod from PrayDog)

CG writes: We put Solei’s action game into VR using Praydog’s UEVR mod for a really neat third-person Wanted: Dead VR game. What’s great is that it just works with no tweaking required, other than perhaps renaming the OpenVR folder if it fails to inject. The experience is great as a gamepad, third-person action game. Due to the nature of the gameplay, you need to be able to see enemies who sneak up behind you, so the third-person view is perfect for this.
