Hardcore gamers have become accustomed to casually mocking Nintendo systems since the GameCube hit the market in 2001. But, even if you're not entirely sold on Nintendo's vision of console gaming, you have to admit that they have a pretty good handle on their market. This week, Nintendo announced a collection of numbers that showed off their systems' surprising longevity and effectively backhanded the competition.
Other nominees include games like SimCity & Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.
There are some good nominees in this list that are deserving to be inducted also, but I feel Metroid has had the most impact on the industry out of all of these. Look how Metroid influenced the evolution of the Castlevania games, and the "Metroidvania" subgenre of games have become a prevailing force in gaming today. Especially now, Metroidvanias are bigger than ever.
I can very much see Resident Evil being added later too, bc it really did popularize and define the survival horror genre. I would say that one is next in line.
If any Metroid game should get the honor it should be Super Metroid , it's perfection in my eyes . 30 years later and I still feel it's the most epic shit ever .
The GBA remake deserves it or Super Metroid, the original was a very sloppy and rushed game programmed in 3 months and it shows.
If you've never played the remake, it's absolutely a must play, fixes basically every flaw in the game. Check out ExoParadigmGamer's comparison video.

Cultured Vultures: True Nintendo fanatics may know some of these, but we doubt that everyone knows all of these facts about the NES.
I bought always awakening and it's sequel off Amazon for ps4 I didn't know it was released for nes for retro people lol.
to some extend I'd agree since they popularized most of the stuff that are now standard in gaming like: rumble, shoulder buttons, analog sticks and even the horrible motion controller. But this is not the whole story though....
I would not say so entirely. Generally the consumers do. Though sometimes an outlet can have somewhat of an influence. Nintendo's ideas have been emulated for a while now. Motion control and handheld gaming to name two things.
Yea they have a good handle on the market...but they pretty much own most of the casual audience, they were smart in doing so...but they're the last people I would turn for to get core gaming.
To be honest, I'd be happy to see Nintendo go the way of Sega, and leave the hardware market to focus solely on software for other consoles.
I like Nintendo games, but I dislike Nintendo hardware. The release of one or two good games from Nintendo each year does not justify the cost of their consoles at all, in my opinion, so I'd much rather see them become a multiplatform development studio that release games on Microsoft/Sony consoles instead.
Obviously, the chances of this ever happening are close to zero I know, but I think it would benefit gamers if it happened. Nintendo less so since they make so much money off hardware.
