FarCry 3 Claims Highest Rated Shooter Of The Year

Today, Ubisoft® announced that Far Cry®3, the open world first person shooter from Ubisoft Montreal and Massive, will be available tomorrow on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Sony PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Windows® PC.

Farcry 3. played it.

Atleast when it comes to PC, its huge hype.

What I mean, is I ran both crysis/warhead and farcry 3 guess which was more impressive graphically?

Its a hard fact i've been trying to look past, but cant. Farcry 3 does have amazing character models (with SSAO disabled); gun models and its animations are top notch.

Still, reviews are overhyping this game like they do COD; 9/10s are bullshit these days. This game is a pure console port, all the PC effects were an afterthought and the overblown SSAO proves it.

Hype train, N4G marketing FTL.
Overall being as honest as I can this game is a solid 7/10 and no more should be given. (I view COD as a 6.5/10).

Vaas is one of the most repulsive villains I've seen in a video game in a while and the voicing and facial animation are top notch all round. As I said in another post FC3 singleplayer is really like the serious parts of FC2 with a whole lot of other games surrounding it, the path of the warrior challenges, racing, assassinations etc are all very "videogamey" where the story missions are more cinematic and have a distinctive pace and a different feel to the rest.

Being first-person doesn't automatically make it a shooter. And if you're going by the logic of "you have a gun" then you could also argue that Devil May Cry is a shooter.

I suppose you're right about Dishonored. I figured it'd be in the same class as Bioshock since the main character is a pair of hands, but the stealth elements move it to Action/Adventure rather than plain shooter.

Borderlands2 is still a contender though.

I've had far cry for a few days now. Borderlands is more addicting/ fun, while far cry 3 is more exciting with a mature tone to it, Both are top 5 games of the a year for sure. Which ones better all depends on what you look for in a game. Me personally, if a game takes 50 plus hours to complete everything and is fun to play again, with endless amounts of weapons, kick ass abilities, funny characters and wild battles..well I'd say borderlands 2 is a tad better. That's a tough game to compare too. Farcry 3 is definitely a close second in my books.

While I can't argue that its good or bad since I haven't played it... it does feel a tad early to label it as such. 91 score on 18 reviews for Xbox360, 91 on 12 reviews for PS3 and an avg score of 88 on PC off of 28 reviews.

in comparison: Borderlands 2 is avg 89 on 360 (59 reviews) and PC (36 reviews) and 91 on PS3 (29 reviews.

All it will take is one or two review sites looking for hits to pull those numbers down quickly.

The hand holding goes for about an hour in SP then you're let loose, you need to give it more time because it gets un-boring quite quickly. I just finished my first MP game on 360 a minute ago and I liked it a lot, no lag, smooth animations, real punchy guns and great sound effects, plus I got MVP and had to choose the enemy's fate at the end, I let him loose LOL.

Maybe you have more time then other people to play all the shooters released so that the game can be judged on it's own merit.

I have responsibilities and a full time career. I don't have the luxury to play every shooter. I use reviews (just like I do when buying a car) to determine what game is worth my money and time.

I for one am happy that metacritic is around. It gives me an "over all" understanding on where the game lies with other shooters on an average scale measured by the collective reviews and opinions of the gaming industry.

If I only had $60 and 10 hours available...am I going to buy a game that on meta would be a 68 meta score reviewed by 58 reviewers or am I going to buy a game that is rated 93 on meta reviewed by 60 reviewers....

It's a no brainer. My money and time are important to me and don't want to waste it on playing an average game when I could have been playing a stellar game.

Wonder if any PC sites have reviewed it yet. It's a mess, graphics artifacting , freezing, micro stuttering, v-sync not working. Not for everyone, but there's plenty of problems with the PC version & that's after the patch & the new nvidia beta drivers.

Its a great game, shame about the PC version though.

It seems really unoptimised as the graphics are not anything special but are really damn demanding.

It also has frame stuttering issues on DX11 when you try to turn on MSAA for some reaon but all in all Im having lots of fun with it so i cant say its a bad game.

8/10 from me simply because of the performance issues.

Agree, also there is small issues I'm finding. I mean how can a pig or goat take 5 bullets to the head & neck with a sniper rifle & still run off lol.

Yeah that's annoying, I think they want you to use the bow (small weaker animals take 1 arrow that you can re use) but so far the game is great, no real issues on my aging HD6950. It's demanding on hardware because of the size of the world and all the wildlife AI etc.

So the big world thing doesnt do it for me as the draw distance isnt that great.

Its just unoptimised IMO, because if a game with its graphical quality (not knocking it) requires a 690 to run on 60fps then id have questions....

Unless MSAA really is that much of a performance hog.

That's a shame about the performance, especially considering Far Cry 2 on PC looked great and ran even better. I actually used it's built-in benchmark recently, and with my 2 AMD 5850's I averaged around 160FPS with all in-game settings maxed out with a min-FPS of 120FPS, which is amazing considering how good it still looks for an open world game.

Hopefully we'll get some performance patches from Ubisoft soon, as well as some performance drivers from Nvidia and AMD.

Every other reward show that knows what they are doing such as the Interactive Achievement Awards or even the Oscars and stuff like that run their shows in late january. Early impressions have got me really pumped to play this game. The sheer amount of review copies that went out usually means a company is confident in their product. I don't think it will be for everyone, but the level of polish and detail will be a production dream come true for most.

I love everything about this game, the graphics, the fact that it has wildlife and dangerous animals, and the storyline. A game like this is best suited to third-person. Well sort of.

It's not as well known, and it's iterations are spread out...I think it's been four years since Far Cry 2.

What was Far Cry 2003? I guess they did the predator expansion, which was also a standalone, but still.

But Far Cry 2 had a lot of hate with it. People hated the respawning of guys. Literally you run around a little bit and come back, and you had to re-fight the entire village or outpost or whatever.

People also had major problems with the multiplayer.

People also hated the malaria. Which would suddenly strike you. Rendering you useless in the middle of a firefight and got you killed. Yes you could wait until 'right after' an episode or something, but overall it was just annoying.

But the game also did many things right and included a pretty good multiplayer map editor.

I pre-ordered it probably a month and a half ago. Glad to see now that they fixed the big drawbacks like malaria and repopulation issue. I guess we'll have to see about any multiplayer issues. Still keeping the map editor, and improving it. (hopefully they allow you to place more stuff, because if so, it will be amazing. You could build some really great maps just with how you could shape the terrain from mountains to water.

But in essence I agree, there isn't the same vitriol hate with the Far Cry series. Now up to 28 reviews and an 88 aggregate score.
