We look at the games that go beyond fun to play and challenge the definition of genre and videogaming itself. The industry’s better for these Bioshocks, Icos and Heavy Rains having existed, so let’s doff our caps and pay tribute. Doff it…
Zachary M. Cain said: Shadow of the Colossus is hailed as one of the best action-adventure titles of its time. The game was originally released for the PlayStation 2 all the way back in 2005. It was so good in fact, it got a remastered version in 2018 for the PlayStation 4 and was well received by old and new fans alike. Let’s revisit this iconic classic in 2024 and see how well it holds up to its past reputation.

Daman Shelley from NoobFeed writes - Dragon's Dogma is truly a one-of-a-kind game, and there really is no other game like it, but there are a few that come close. Whether with their fantasy settings, the ability to climb mountains, or just with the overall same charm as Capcom’s iconic RPG. Here's a list of games that will hopefully scratch that Dragon's Dogma itch.
I can still hear the title screen music in my head after nearly 12 years. Loved every minute of it.
I have no issues filling my time til DD2.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink, Infinite Wealth and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will probably me more than enough.
More terrified I won't be done in time.
Try not to burn yourself out before the game releases. This is going to be a long and immersive RPG like the first one.
The games in this article are all great and I believe the people who are excited for Dragons Dogma 2 probably already played most of those games.
For now, I recommend you prepare yourself for long play sessions if you will be picking up Dragons Dogma at launch.
Hmm. Not the top 8 most would probably think of. As listed:
BioShock
Ico
Shadow of the Collosus
Portal 2
Heavy Rain
Resident Evil 4
LittleBigPlanet 2
Okami
I'd argue RE4 was more "groundbreaking" for the GameCube, especially as a timed exclusive. Surprised no Journey, seeing as he liked other arty games like Ico /SOTC/Okami from last gen.
Doubly odd that OPM UK lists Okami HD as top 8 http://www.officialplaystat... , but also gave it its lowest score on metacritic, 80/100 http://www.officialplaystat... .
Only a few of those (namely Heavy Rain, Ico/Shadow, LBP, and Okami) I would consider to be truly groundbreaking, especially considering that some of those titles originally released on competing platforms. There are several others I would say are more groundbreaking than what's mentioned here. Alomg the likes of MGS1, GTA3, Gran Turismo, RE2 just to name a few
I guess it all depends on one's viewpoint of "groundbreaking".
Great picks, Shadow of the Colossus is just a gem, a must play for any gamer out there!
Ico and SotC are both amazing games and I'm looking forward to Fumito Ueda, The Last Guardian. It sucks that after that game he's done with Sony. I hope he continue working with Sony in the future.
except shadow of the colossus all the others shouldnt put in the list ...i wonder from an official magazine how they are thinking...here's agood list: Monster Hunter,MGS1,original Resident evil,FFVII, Uncharted, Crash Team Racing (far better than any mario cart or clone)GodHand(best fighting system yet)...and a lot more but NOT the above mentioned
