Konami has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 4: 25th Anniversary Edition is indeed a PlayStation 3 exclusive after a New Zealand shop listed it for Xbox 360.

Sure there is. It's why people buy an Android over an iPhone or vice-versa. It's why people play games on Steam rather than Origin. They should not use 3rd party games as hostage to convince gamers to support the hardware. If a game can only currently be done on that hardware like we saw early on with the Wii and its motion controls that's fine. Eventually some of those games came out on the PS3 and people that didn't own a Wii got to play it. Games should be enjoyed by as many as possible and 3rd party publishers should not be using a wedge to segregate gamers and force them to buy multiple systems for no reason.

Sony needs to convince consumers by offering their own games. They need to offer their own online service, which they also do. Same with Nintendo and Microsoft. Microsoft should not be using its money to leverage people and make games like Blue Dragon and force Japanese gamers to support them that way. That's why we have 2nd party games too. So if that's the case like Bayonetta 2 on the Wii U then to me that is perfectly acceptable. They are funding the project even though they don't own the team behind it.

The only reason I can think of why MGS4 hasn't come to the Xbox 360 is a partnership deal between Konami and Sony. Which of course is solely created to limit its access in order to force gamers to buy that hardware.

I can't believe how many disagrees you got. I gave you an agree. Anyway Metal Gear is hardly exclusive. MG 1 and 2 was on the msx, a port of 1 was released on the NES. Mgs1 was one psx the remake on gamecube. Mgs2 was on ps2. Mgs 2 substance was on ps2, xbox and pc. Mgs 3 and mgs 3 subsistance was ps2. Mgs3 was rebuilt for 3ds. Peace walker was psp and 2, 3, and peacewalker all rereleased for ps3 and 360. 4 was the only true exclusive as Rising is coming out for ps3 and xbox 360. Needless to say, you make a valid point.

You're right, EA is using titles like Battlefield 3 to add leverage, just like Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo do. That's what 1st party titles are supposed to do, showcase the hardware or the service. People like Steam, not because it has Half Life and Left4Dead but because they really like the service and convenience it provides. Even if Origin had the same games people would still use Steam more because of the service.

That is what the console manufacturers need to do as well. Provide a better service, more value based hardware, unique gameplay. Stuff like that. What exactly does timed exclusive games and DLC do for the consumer? What difference does it make to the consumer if MGS4 comes to the PC or Xbox 360? It doesn't. All it does is make those who decided long ago to take sides feel better about their purchase.

I have a PS3. It's a slim model that came with Infamous 2. Great game by the way and I have to play it again with the Playstation Move. I also used to own MGS4. That too was a good game but I traded it. Nobody can answer one question though, why would it matter to anyone if MGS4 came to the Xbox 360 now? The more access the more people can play it.

Its such an old game and I played it when it came out. It was dissapointing with to many cutscenes and loads and installs every time you play it. The only reason I would want to see it on the 360 and the reason Konami has not ported it is it would by far be the much better version and Konami does not want to deal with all the whining and hatefull ps fans. If ME1 going multiplat was an 'oh well' moment, it's cuz we didn't have articles like this every other month for years on end, having to shoot down rumors of its re-allegiance.

It was simply never as in demand as MGS4. That and the "whining/hateful ps fans" as you call them, didn't make a big deal out of not having it. The ME2 prequel digital comic (which 360 has too on XBLA) had all the most important decisions, save for an extra 10 war assets for Kirahhe or Shiala in ME3 which could be rectified by a couple rounds of multiplayer.

As far as MGS4 goes, they patched out all the chapter load/install breaks in September with the option for one full install. I did one full 9GB install when I replayed it for trophies and had an amazing no-kills run. So smooth without those between chapter 'Smoking Snake' segments. Loads quicker too. Game aged *extremely* well, I forgot how good it was.

That game used a dual-layer Blu-ray disc. It had so many cut-scenes, it would fill up AT LEAST 4 Dvd's.

PS3's are cheap now, so if people want to play it, then get a PS3. Sure, it would be good if they did make it multi-platform, as it is a great game that should be played by as many people as possible, but it isn't going to happen, especially not this gen.

obviously you havent played the game. There is multiple Dialog sessions in the game promoting Blu ray over DVD. They would have to go redo the dialog and redo the animation for that dialog costing more money than just keeping it PS3 Exclusive. Also the fact that snake uses a PS3 controller to control his Metal Gear counter part. Also the fact that it goes back to the PS1 game which was never designed for the Xbox system.

Calm down killer. I think you are forgetting that the 360 was basically built to be an Unreal Engine 3 power house. And i'm sure it doesn't have as many smoke filters or lense flares as GoW3, but Borderlands 2 has 4 player coop, RPG elements, huge environments, and millions of weapons and gear. The reason that Halo, Gears, and Forza look and play so good is because they're the only exclusives that really sell for MS therefor they can afford to dump basically an unlimited budget on them. Why don't you list a few other 360 games that are on par with Gears3 which would prove that MGS4 is possible on 360, or you could just realize that it's not financially smart to put MGS4 on 360 right now since: 1) it's an old game now and should be priced around $30-$40, and 2) since its such a huge game, it would require multiple DVDs which would further require special packaging thus increasing packaging costs which would only be financially smart if they sold it for $50-$60 (which people won't spend for a game that came out years ago)

1st of all I said "exclusive" and 2nd of all if you think Borderlands (a cell shaded game) has the graphical fidelity of Gears of War, then you have already lost the right to be heard let alone counter argue.

It doesn't matter WHAT engine is used. Nobody can name a single game that requires the parameters of which I have drawn out found in titles like Gears of War and Halo. You just name a game that has 1 of the parameters.

Resistance 2 - NOT 4 player co-op for the MAIN campaign.

R&C - Not large open world fighting areas or the same degree of graphical fidelity.

Borderlands - NOT same degree of graphical fidelity.

You are talking about media storage, NOT what the hardware can't do. Yes it would take 2-3 discs for the large amount of video and audio sure...but that doesn't mean the 360 wouldn't be able to run the game. MGS4 was built around the PS3 architecture but it was first built on PC then optimized for the CELL. If it can be built on the PC, then it can be optimized for the 360. Simple as that. There is NOTHING in MGS4 that the 360 can't run, it just means that more discs would need to be used simple to store the mass amount of data that comprises the MGS4 game.

Lets not forget people, that MGS4 also has DUPE files to help read off the disc faster which wouldn't have been needed if the game was on a DVD9. It would more then likely fit on 2 DVD9's compressed.

The reason why you won't see a 4 player co-op in the MAIN campaign with open environments, high level graphical fidelity like Gears or Uncharted is because of the RAM issues within the PS3. The RAM just can't be split enough to maintain great graphics if you start adding in larger environments and more then 2 players in the MAIN campaign. It's too constricting on the PS3.

Why are you asking for a PS3 exclusive with 4 player co-op and all that other stuff? Just because it may not be there, doesnt mean its not possible, because there have been multiplatform games that easily show its possible.

MGS4 as it is now will cost to much for Kojima to do, and the only way to make it cheaper is to cut things out, compress things, or just make it look worse, and Kojima is not the type of developer to work under such restrictions, or to lower his games when not needed. Kojima already stated he felt kind of bad over not even having the PS3 version complete, being that he cut a few missions out, and compressed some things (I believe it was mostly audio being that audio file hold the most weight in data) even though he was one of the first to fill a dual-layer 50 GB Blu ray disc (which would directly translate to at least 6 dvds, he might be able to compress it to 4 or 5). Also the game was built from the ground up on an engine specifically tailored for the PS3, so to port would probably be a little harder for them further increasing cost of moving the game to 360. Then from a story standpoint, if you've only been a xbox fan from day one, you may not have played MGS1, therefore you will not understand the flashbacks (no one knows how many xbox owners also own other consoles or have played MGS1) and all PS3 references will have to be removed or rreplaced, but Kojima saw that when MGS2 was released on the first xbox, no one bought it, so he didnt continue to release them on that platform. The reason why Ground Zeroes and Rising are coming onto 360 is because first they aren't as big (space consuming wise with Ground Zeroes being open world now and Rising being an action game with big areas), then with the HD collection 360 players are caught up with the story now to play Ground Zeroes while Rising has a non cannon story (but there are references to MGS4 some people might not get), also both games were made from the begining on multiplatform engines, with both consoles in mind. So MGS4 is not impossible on 360, but it would require a lot of work, which equals a lot of money on there part (not to mention all the microsoft fees they would have to go throguh like paying extra per DVD they have the game on, and paying much more to patch the game on 360 than any other console), money that they are not sure they will earn back through profit to solidfy a port being made making the game very very unlikely to come out. I'm sure they have thought about, and if it was to ever come out on Xbox, it would be safe to say it will release on the next xbox console.

Also, you didnt prove yourself as to why MGS4 cant be done on 360, you just stated it cant, so why not provide evidence to back yourself up first, before asking other people for their evidence to prove you wrong.

MGS4 is a 4 year old game. Since then there have been a few games on the Xbox that look just as good or even better. Rage, Crysis 2, Halo 4, Forza and Witcher 2 come to mind. That tends to happen as the years go by. The only thing holding the 360 back is the lack of Blu ray. MGS4 would take 4-5 DVDs but to say the 360 couldn't play it is just silly fanboy talk.

I'll switch up the argument here a little. We all know the structure of the RAM on each system is built differently which is why the 360 can have larger environments with co-op, but can you name a 360 game that looks better than Uncharted 2 (specifically the train level) or Killzone 2? Those are just single player campaigns so they shouldn't be taxing at all for the 360, but those are old games and the 360 has yet to even match them graphically (since graphics seems to be the only lube you're using to force your argument down our throats)

Look at the ps3 and the 360 like this: The 360 is like a bullet and the ps3 is like a cruise missile. Both can be used to kill people but both are used very differently. With a bullet, all you need is a gun since all the parts of a bullet are set in a small area. But with a cruise missile you need multiple factors to fire it because the technology is spread around the device. You can't fire a bullet from a missile silo and vice versa.

For your second comment: 360 can't handle the uncompressed audio, would take way too many discs. And the point ain't that 360 couldn't handle something like MGS4, but the thing is, that it was build from ground up for PS3 so the porting isn't propably possible (If there was a way to port it easily, Konami would have done it.

Try resistance 2, 8 player co-op in huge environments bigger than gears of war and 60 player competitive, again bigger than gears of war maps. So it can be done.

I mean if you wanna talk power try MAG 256 player, real-time explosions/events with some destructible environments. Ps3 can handle anything the Xbox 360 can, but can the 360 handle our games? Because so far, nothing in the likes of resistance 1 or 2, MAG, starhawk, killzone etc. is there on the 360 to compete against them.

This goes for what single-player and multi-player has to offer.

Also resistance 1 has 4 player split screen local competitive (I believe, been a while since I played it). So yeah gears is possible on the ps3

Are you mental? Not only has Sony did 4 player Co-OP but they've also went on to do things like MAG which was 128 vs 128 with pretty good graphics. Stop sucking microsoft's penis dude. There are no 360 games that touch Sony exclusives. Everyone said Halo 4 was going o be up there but it still looks worse then KillZone 2. Gears 3 looks very dated with those shiny wax character models. Forza 3 and 4 are the only game on 360 that can compete with GT5's premium model cars but even then it can't do 16 cars at once lol. And no the 360 cannot run MGS4 not because its weak but because it was programmed for the ps3. Certain task that where deticated specifically for the SPEs on the Cell wouldn't run fluidly on the Xenos as the threads on that chip don't work indepedantly from eachother they work together. The 360 version would need to be built specifically for it's hardware to run.

There's nothing in Gears that can't be done on PS3. You can't say it doesn't matter which engine the game is built on and then proceed to rule out a game like Borderlands because it's cell shaded. BL isn't cell shaded by the way, it's a hybrid art style, but that's beside the point. There's no technical reason at all why Gears can't be on PS3. I'd also say there's no technical reason why MGS4 can't be on 360, other than the various ingame PS3 references that exist. The reason for both to remain where they are is entirely legal, as in contractual.

Not everyone is a fanboy, just a vocal minority on the internet. How many times do you hear random people on PNS or XBL say something bad about the other console? Never, because they are real gamers.

And yes, MGS4 will not be on the 360 due to technical limitations. I couldn't see it being on less than 4 discs, with heavy optimisation. I'd be guessing 6 discs or so.

wow. 4 scores and 4 years ago. and this games new version will have nothing new. the online has been permanently offline for months now. and the dlc sucked might i add. as well as how raiden and vamp handled. not to mention the trophies look like they were made the night before they patched them in. the item menus are all still painted yellow. why always yellow. mgs2 had the best color scheme. the annoying ass install and re-nstalls are still gonna be present. and finally no new vr or snake tales missions like mgs2. not even ape escape from mgs 3. wow literally nothign outside of " heres an old game with a new boxart priced at triple wat it normally goes for

Actually the installs have been streamlined to the beginning of the game. You can now install the full game so that you don't have to between Acts. It isn't just the new version that does that. Since they released the trophy patch you now have that option with the original version as well.

Hate on Nintendo Wii U/Platinum Games for Bayonetta 2, yet a certain corp. tried to monopolize GTA series and all they could muster was timed DLC exclusives...tut, tut!

Interesting tid-bit:
Metal Gear Solid was never really a Playstation exclusive franchise. Every single Metal Gear Solid was multiplatform except MGS4 (even then, it had an iPhone game released based on MGS4).

Examples:
MGS1 (PS1) - MGS:TS (GC)
MGS2 (PS2) - MGS2:S (Xbox)
MGS3 (PS2) - MGS3 (3DS, Xbox360)
MGS4 (PS3) - MGSTouch (iPhone)
MGSPW(PSP) - MGSPW (Xbox360)

The series wasn't really ever exclusive to any platform. All the games ended up on another platform in one form or another. All it is now is that they'll be releasing them at the same time across all platforms (Rising and Zeroes).

Although there were a few exclusives like Portable Ops/+, and Ac!D. I'm not sure if anyone is complaining about missing out on those tho.

I sorry, but as MUCH as I love Kojima & his work, I almost don't feel compelled to get this edition.
The only thing drawing me in is the red in the boxart (I love red!), & the poster is 'meh' cute, & I do like collecting very selective posters, magazine covers & such, but it's almost not worth it this time...

Day 1 release, brought the limited edition (the one in the tin box)
Traded in day 1 release for the GOTY edition (again, I wanted the red case, lol)
The disc, mysteriously, turned up missing...(most likely stolen), so I re'purchased around the time of the trophy patch...
Traded it back once I heard about this edition,
& now, come to find out, there's not much added.

As a Ps3 gamer, not owning an Xbox 360, this news saddens me. Metal Gear Solid is the best story in video game history, and it is not fair that they get teased with #2 and 3, but never get to play 1 and 4. It's just not fair at all to them. I don't even think it can be done and not because of power or disc size, but hard drive. The instant loading of Octocamo compared to the wait just to load camo in MGS3 via a menu is why the game needed to be installed.
