During E3 back in 2011 Ubisoft revealed a trailer for a Wii U exclusive game known as Killer Freaks from Outer Space. The game looked to be a light-hearted survival horror game that featured strange intergalactic creatures that were hell bent on consuming every living being in their path.
Killer Freaks has moved on quite a bit since then; it still has the survival horror element but the enemies aren’t from space at all - in fact, they’re zombies. For those who are unaware, Killer Freaks is now known as ZombiU and it certainly has come a long way since 2011.
In the latest Iwata Asks, President of Nintendo Satoru Iwata sat down with the team who made ZombiU and asked them about how Killer Freaks evolved into ZombiU in such a relatively short space of time.
HPP's Josh crafts an unholy list of the Top 8 Spooky Games In Need a Sequel That Originated on Nintendo Platforms. From old to new, a gory list to dream about.
The title says the criteria was explicitly written to mention Eternal Darkness. I am happy to see House of the Dead: OVERKILL on here. With the rise of Grindhouse themes in the 2010s, (ie WET), this was one that was both entertaining and camp funny.
Would be nice to see a new Zombie game set in the UK again, some of the landmarks, old architecture and the like really fits in well with the genre.
At the heart of Iwata’s tenure at Nintendo was a philosophy of listening.
In 2015, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata sadly passed away. Dear friend and EarthBound creator Shigesato Itoi compiled his musings as a tribute.
Oh, was wondering where that game went. It looked fun :(
Weird. I thought ZombiU came from Zombi? I do remember this game being announced though.
I always thought Killer Freaks looked much more interesting. Im happy Ubi at least still kept the multiplayer mode in the final game, but I feel like the single player experience would have fared much better as KF given how repetitive/not great the combat in ZombiU has been reported to be.
