Hitman Absolution: Definitely a Not Politically Correct Game

PM writes: When it comes to the issue of women’s rights, I am easily bothered. Perhaps because all my heroes have cared deeply for the issue, I always take into account how any work treats women. As a gamer, it places me in an interesting position because the videogame industry is often guilty of sexualizing everything from violence to entertainment, and that too out of context. So, before buying a game, I make sure its trailers don’t imply that it is insulting to women and, when it comes to Hitman: Absolution, it is insulting indeed.

Ohhh lawdy... this site again?

Look, I think you're confused as to what "women's rights" are. You make it sound as if an individual woman has the right to be completely protected from any *potentially* offensive material, but that isn't the case. A "right" is an actual legal thing. It's a real term that refers to real legal protections. So, stop spouting about "women's rights" unless you actually know what those rights are. Women, as a whole, are going to be completely fine. There are things more worth attacking than an "offensive to women" M-rated videogame.

You want to know what real rights are? The freedom of speech and the freedom of press (media). Those are ACTUAL rights that are ACTUAL laws and are ACTUALLY protected by our government. "The right to not have my gender negatively portrayed within a videogame" is not a right, and it's not even something that men are afforded, either (so there's no supposed gender inequality here) because men are frequently painted in a very unappealing light in videogames: murderers, thieves, liars, rapists, etc.

You pretty much nailed it. I think we are all pretty tired of the "right not to be offended" BS.

Yeah it's getting old. No wonder people are sensitive when they demand nothing offends them.

With billions of people on this earth that is impossible, and not really desirable either.

That is how people grow, getting their beliefs and opinions challenged...

Political correctness = overrated.

People who take offense to a game which is a work of fiction must have an easy life if thats all they have to worry or complain about.

Ppl don't understand objectification, duke nukem forever, yes it's crude and it may not be your preferred game(personally I found it boring but that's not the point) but ppl are so overly aware of offending they jump the gun with out understanding the full picture, If JNF objectifies women, what it does alot more of is objectify men ie juke...if your saying all men are juke then you agree that it objectifies women and you disagree that it is satire, however distasteful you find it, grow some brain cells, it's not about offending it's play a sterotypeing game, held up in my sociology class at uni(which is mainly women) few believed games objectify women more than other media and felt most failed to understand the difference between sexualising and objectifying, most people sexualise them selves and need little help from the media. Make what you will of it.

This bothers me, why do people think sexism is catered only to women? do you think that portraying men at 6ft7 muscular beasts that are handsome as well as able to beat up 49 enemies and once and go out with a beautiful woman isn't sexist towards men?

It's a video game.. it's not reality.. stop getting upset over pixels.

How IO turned Hitman around, from Absolution to World of Assassination

When Hitman 3 recently changed its name to Hitman World of Assassination, fans had no idea how meaningful the moment was. On the outside it looked like a simple thing: Hitman 3 would now be known by this name and include levels from Hitman 2 and 3 - the trilogy would all be in one place. But on the inside, at IO Interactive, much more was going on.

You mean destroyed it with this tethered single-player campaign BS... And only the first few levels of the third modern game were on the disc! I'll never support this crap at any price-point! They've lost me as a customer.

Hitman is, and has been, a remarkable series developed by some of the best. Some are better than others, but every Hitman is challenging and fun.

Sure, there have been some stumbles and fumbles, but always in pursuit of the perfect Hitman game. The most recent trilogy is a masterclass in level design.
