OXCGN’s Wii U System Review: Is This Truly the Next Generation?

OXCGN:

"This has been one of the most prolonged console generations in the history of video games.

While traditional generations have lasted anywhere from three to five years, this one technically began in 2005 with the release of the Xbox 360, and the other two consoles in 2006 and has lasted until where we currently are.

Now, Nintendo has followed in Microsoft’s footsteps and released the Wii U a year (or possibly even more) ahead of the competition.

Is this truly the next generation, or is Nintendo merely playing catch-up with a fancy controller?"

Really enjoying my Wii U. Good points about how the next gen will be more about the controllers than the tech... I want to play everything on my Wii U now but none of my friends have it :(

legend9114166d ago

They might if you convinced them otherwise. I guess we'll have to wait for Metroid and Zelda, no?

PopRocks3594166d ago

Give it some time. A few of my friends said they'll get one once the new Smash Bros./Bayonetta 2/Nintendo core (Star Fox/F-Zero) games come out.

For now I'm just enjoying my games and Miiverse. Plus we have a long launch window ahead.

stragomccloud4166d ago

I'm really quite surprised by miiverse. I totally expected to ignore it.... but it seems to be a must have feature!

Man-E-Faces4166d ago

I was impressed with miiverse too at first but the novelty is wearing off with each day, why? Very rarely do I see posts with actual problems needing help in a game instead it's post after post of "I have this game on PS3/360 is WiiU's version any better" or posts with nothing more than crappy art and 1 liners describing the game. I don't thik this pattern will change either, never the less miiverse is something Nintendo did right with WiiU, my opinion of course.

the gamepad is the future.when you can play COD BOP's and watch the 49er's on sunday at the same time.well i don't know about you but that is one of the best features in a gaming system in a long time.now that's a two screen experience.take notes MS,sony why is my vita not supporting this! not just four games but try your're hole ps3 collection.and why hasn't my vita receive an update to be use as a controller? i think sony was the best system this gen but if they want to sell more vita's they need to come with more features that u don't need to buy to copy's of the game to use them, looking at you capcom.

I don't think people understand how helpful the tablet is for games that have inventory items, maps, etc.. ZombiU is a perfect example of how well it can work...

Right it's called the start, select or triangle button(or the xbox equivalent) on most games, you don't need a tablet controller for that.

If this is innovation, give me the same shit we have been using for the last 25-27 yrs. Why is dragon warriors/final fantasy's inventory or map screen suddenly a noteworthy feature of the wii u's tablet controller?

A menu/inventory screen isn't innovative or revolutionary, that or we are regressing back to the nes or prior, in regards to new gameplay ideas.

funny on the tablet I just drag it with my finger in 1 second

"funny on the tablet I just drag it with my finger in 1 second"

So much better than taking less than a second to press a button.

And people wonder why nintendo games are still stuck in the early 90's, with you people as fans nintendo will always be a gen behind.

I guess simple minded people love their gimmicks, i personally would rather have a stronger cpu, dedicated Gddr3 or Gddr5 video memory. Instead of that crappy cheap ass ddr3 ram, which only gig is available for gaming.

But hey no matter how many corners nintendo cuts, you people will still lap it up and thank nintendo for gracing you with it's benevolent presence.

Enjoy everything being tied to your console and not the account like live/psn ect does. And people pretend nintendo isn't treated with kids gloves by gamers, your either blind or in denial.

I think it's better to leave games like AC: Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash forgotten on the Wii U. Best case, they are mediocre games; worse case, they are very bad. It was a dark time for the Wii U, and the first only exists to sell Amiibo cards, whereas the second was put together in a couple of months with a shoestring budget, and it shows.

The rest of the list does have some really cool games, though. I would love to see a remake of Star Fox Zero with decent controls, and Xenoblade X doesn't require that much modification to work.

How would XCX work without dual screens functionality?

Cacabunga2d ago

Same as Paper Mario color splash. One of the best wiiu games and getting even better with dual screen. Same reason why i prefer Splatoon 1

This article leaves out Nintendo's most controversial game to date devils Third.
I personally found the cover system really fun in that one compared to at the time most fps games completely lacking one.

Stevonidas1d 23h ago

Devil's Third is HIGHLY underrated.

repsahj1d 23h ago

They should remake Starfox to the switch 2. Very beautiful game during gamecube days.

Chocoburger1d 18h ago

Kirby is always ignored or forgotten by people, so good to see it mentioned here.
Play Kirby Canvas Curse on DS, and then play Rainbow Curse on Wii U, they're really fun and unique 'platformers' without any actual jumping.
