Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale Review - IMGMR

For years now Nintendo has a firm grasp on the gaming masses in terms of brawlers, with their ‘smash’ hit, Super Smash Brothers. Though the game was well received by fans worldwide, it actually managed to inspire Sony to create a game of their own, in a similar vein. Thus, PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale (PSA:BR) was born! A game that appears to emulate Nintendo’s popular brawler to the tee, but packs its own flare and allure once it’s given its fare shake.

Great Stuff.
I love the risk/reward system implemented with the 3 levels of the Super Attack.
Really not the button masher/brawler SSB was.

Exactly. The point of All-Stars was to make a competitive brawler that required real skill to master, yet was approachable for the rest of the gamers. I think they've pulled it off well.

yes it was. You could always tell a noob from a good player because all a noob did was run around grabbing items and hitting the b button while good players actually used combos, but these players where so rare that I got bored with the game and stopped playing.

I just begin to notice the amount of spamming of attacks in this game. i Had a big daddy and radec destroying my spike and raiden in parapas level. all big daddy did was ram back and forth. it was ridiculous.

All games have people using cheap tactics. That won't work once you get better at the game. People who go in thinking you can just spam attacks constantly and win every time are in for a nasty surprise. Just like the people who thought they could beat me with Radec and Kratos against my Fat Princess. I showed them what she can do.

I'll compare this game to Smash the same way a little brother imitates the art of an older sibling. People will always look at the toddler's arts and crafts and be like "oh it's SOOO nice, Toby" when in reality it's a piece of crap and they're trying not to hurt the boy's feelings.

Screw your art work, Toby. Smash is better.

It is a much more intricate combo system. This game was made by the best fighting developers in the industry and many of the top ranked fighting gamers.

Smash is a good game, but this is a real, competitive brawler. Melee is about as close as you'll get to this, but even that has balancing issues, thanks to lack of patches. (Obviously)

I would suggest playing All-Stars. You'll probably end up loving it, like the rest of us. :) There is room for both series' in this industry.

OH YEAH! Smash is SOOO much better! KILL STEALING AND LEDGE GUARDIANS 4LYFE!!! Seriously though, simply put, there's more to the combat of PSASBR than Smash, so I guess if you just like your brawlers a bit closer to the brain-dead end of the combat spectrum, then Smash is better for you.

Indeed, doesn't hurt to give it a try. Once you do, it's actually not that bad. As hard as I try, however, I can NEVER stop comparing it to Smash, cause that is simply the lens I am looking through. Smash has been around so long, that it sets the bar for every 'smash-like' game to come.
