Is the game that engaging that you forget to eat, sleep, or use the bathroom?

I mean I understand a little bit, I used to play WoW and those late night raids that would go on for hours were excruciating. However I always knew when it was time to pull the parachute and go to bed.

The people that have this problem clearly have a mental illness. If they did not die from gaming it would have been something else sadly. The normal brain is not wired to naturally be that obsessed. Plus with the ADD most of us "have" no way most gamers could do one thing for days.. Sadly I know this stuff all to well as I have aspergers and zone out on doing stuff for hours. Good thing I get hungry lol

I love games as much as the next person and can play 6 or 7 hours a day (especially now that i'm on disability) and I have ADHD and i can't fathom how much you have to play to die in front of a screen.

There is a Pause button for a reason. I know you can't pause in a multiplayer game but that's why you take a small break between rounds.

It's a video game and it's not going to grow legs and walk out of your house. Take a small 5 minute break and stretch and grab a hot-pocket. :)

How stupid does someone have to be to say this? Do you actually believe that his cause of death will be 'gaming' ?

Most likely he had something like a undiagnosed heart condition. Lack of sleep and poor diet, sitting in one spot, and so forth can make this more likely to be an issue, but there's no direct link to gaming.

Blood clots and whatnot also come with sitting still for lengthy periods of time, however he could have mitigated this by taking very brief breaks for activity.

What I'm saying is, someone who plays games all day isn't inevitably going to die randomly, which is what your post suggests.

That is really incredible (though in a bad way of course), it's saddening every time I read one of these. Then it gets even more saddening when it's in America and you hear the news media attempting to blame the actual gaming industry :/ Anywho, that is insanely long, the longest I've ever gone without much of a break is around 13 hours. And I was only like 12 or 13 years old, I was so hooked on Ratchet & Clank Going Commando! XD But I felt like garbage afterwards, I will never do it again. Now i'm lucky if I get in more than 3 hours every weekend because of college.

having ADD wouldnt effect a gamers habits in any way. people with a deficit in attention can still concentrate on things if they enjoy that activity. the trouble people with ADD have is a lack of focus on things that hold no interest to them.

I too have aspergers, and ADHD.
and I understand (as most people do) that gaming can become addicting to the point of absolute obsession. It's the mentality of "just ONE more round" or "one more treasure chest" that can literally drive people insane.
I live with my parents and siblings, and they give me sh*t if I am away from them to long, and my god, if they weren't here, I swear that I'd live and breath videogames.

In particular, Halo 2 was my obsession for a long period of time. I remember getting mad, snapping the disc, and buying it again a day later because my love for the experience was far too pertinent to be ignored.

I don't think this guy died from "videogames", but the guy could of easily died of a brain hemorrhage, where chronic sleep loss or lack of appropriate circulation within the body. Throw a dart at wall and take your pick.

Personally if I look at a screen for extended period of time, my eyes tell me to hit the sack.

Here's what kills you when you sit too long:
Deep Vein Frombosis. People who have to sit on long plane rides are educated about it, where you need to stand up and walk around every few hours else blood will pool on your calves when you're sitting. Once the blood pools enough a blood vessel bursts, and a tiny flake goes through your circulatory system to your heart or brain, killing you. Similar to a stroke, it's important to know about if you plan on sitting more than a few hours.

Obviously this person didn't care a lick about their health, and had no idea what sitting so long would do to him. He was 24 and so people often leave you to your business, although with just one person coming along to tell him to get off his ass it would've saved his life.

These stories are sad but at the same point and time it seems that some people lack COMMON SENSE and something else here is at play cause NO Normal person would sit and play Video Games even when their body is shutting down!

I have had Marathon Gaming sessions but I ALWAYS Eat, Drink, take breaks and even Naps! My Health is more important than a High Score!

Also Energy Drinks are bad for you and I see a lot of people drinking those while Marathon gaming! I prefer Powerade, orange Juice, and Water.....they hydrate you and make you Pee therefore you get exercise walking to the bathroom!

I just saw it in the local news a year ago. But that was one of the stupidest deaths I've heard of. From what i remember the kid managed to tell the doctors what he did before dying since he died in the hospital. My aunt went crazy when she couldn't marry her boyfriend so she decided to shut herself in her room and burn herself along with her house. That happened ten years ago so it's just another awful memory,but the smell of burned flesh is forever ingrained in my mind.

I can't play games for more than two hours. I actually stop after an hour if I'm not too carried away by the story, take a break, and come back to it after a while for another one or two hours if I have any spare time left. I don't play games everyday, and when I do, it's three hours at max, divided by breaks within that day.

Not that I have attention deficit disorder, but I just like taking it slow and games nowadays are quite short. Your long awaited games generally have five to nine hour campaigns, so if you're enjoying the game, there's no meaning in rushing your gameplay anyway.

And as you can guess yeah, I'm a single player guy.

This is exactly why the Guinness book of world records gives people a 10 minute break for every 60 minutes of gaming, or the person could save those 10 minutes and build them up and use them all at once for some type of rest,(4hours of rest for every 24 hours). While great fun and addicting, games can cause lots of health problems . I mean how do you forget to eat, sleep or use the bathroom, not to mention it's bad for your vision over long periods of time. Clearly the kid's parents weren't watching him and they should be held responsible. Any real gamer knows they're limit, and know the responsibility of playing games, hence the warnings in the game booklet itself.
