DmC: Devil May Cry Demo Impressions - Glitch Cat

Glitch Cat - While the demo for DmC: Devil May Cry offers a small glimpse at what’s to come, I can safely say that Ninja Theory is heading in the right direction. With an excellent and fluid combat system, dynamic stages and a interesting plot, Dante’s next adventure should definitively be on your buy list.

I just finished playing it and I thought it surpassed anyone's expectations. NT did an amazing job with it. Way better than I thought. It also shows how much life the PS3 and 360 still have left. This game is gorgeous and runs really smooth

Summons754172d ago

the clunky frame-rate and unresponsive controls say otherwise. This is a horrible game just going by hack n slash standards alone. No skill required combat and difficulty settings that are painfully easy even on the "hardest" difficulty. NT just keeps proving they are self-center egomaniacs and don't care about fans or respect a beloved franchise which is an icon to gaming. This game spells nothing but failure for the game and the developers. Maybe if they actually listened to fans instead insulting them and the creator they would have a half-decent game.

I'm with summons on this one. The controlls are terrible to say the least. This game does not remind me of DMC at all. I fealt like running around with a teenager who thinks he is the shit. Thoght I give it a chance but it was very underwhelming. Def. not buying this crap. Hope that Capcom will learn their lesson.

The_Klank4172d ago

I dunno man, NT were handed a golden chalice by Capcom and told 'here Reboot this franchise'. Technical issues aside (Which btw Capcom must have ok'd) NT had to put their own stamp on DMC.

Lets be honest the Original DMC never set the world ablaze with sales, that's why it was rebooted in the first place. If anyone's to 'blame' for this its Capcom.

I'm going to disagree with both you and Syntax-Error in that both of you are on complete extremes.

No, the game doesn't run smooth now that they dropped the framerate from 60 to 30. And no the game isn't gorgeous as the animations are choppy and the textures are low-res.

However, the controls (PS3 at least) respond as soon as you press a button and you cannot play the game with one finger pressing a button and your eyes closed (hence the skill required).

When all the worst games of all time are combined, I doubt this makes the list. Will it be the best DMC ever? Doubtful. But the demo shows it's at best a SOLID bargain-bin purchase.

Not horrible, not amazing....just good. That happens. To say this game doesn't walk on the middle ground of decency is a little far fetched.

Control scheme is very different than original DMCs. There is no target/aim button, dodging is done with shoulder buttons, launching enemies is done with circle button, stinger is with two tap forward with left stick and pressing triangle, pulling enemies is done with shoulder buttons. Everything is different! Except square as a shooting button and triangle as a slashing button. Moreover, the game is damn easy! I first played on devil hunter and could take all the beating in the world without dying. Then I started on nephilim but it still wasnt much different. I have to play nephilim a little more and I will try son of sparda later but my initial impression is that the game is too easy and the control scheme is weird. I can just keep on pulling combos infinitely and the enemies just cooperate with me. In original DMC (especially DMC3) enemies were relentless and brutal even on normal difficulty. I will play it some more and see how I feel about it in the end. It looks like the media is getting paid to praise this game and convince gamers that it is the same old DMC with just a little different look.

Right off the back i'm not digging the art/visual direction.

Dont like how the square button operates gun and the whip. guns feel lame now.

Dante is lame when he talks during the boss battle.

But overall it seems like it will be a good solid playthrough for $20-$30

I also thought Dante's mother is human. Where this angel stuff coming from?

Whitefox7894171d ago

*Reboot*

Origin Story changed, Dante is now part angel, part demon not an ounce of him is human (which makes me wonder why he looks human).

Which is a shame cause the original Dante took pride in his human side over his demon side which made it more relatable with his famous line in DMC1-3 "Devil's Never Cry" implying, no matter how much of a demon he may prove to be, his ability to cry makes his human side precious to him.

then again this is when they were young. Virgil might change later on. we'll never know but im excited on where NT is taking the franchise. i've only loved the 1st n 3rd DmC, so i could care less about the old originals

The angel stuff is coming from the fact that this is a reboot......new origin story, etc. Didn't know?

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC5d ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Exvalos4d ago

What a weird name, it's essentially devil may cry, devil may cry lol

Cacabunga4d ago

Best to good for me: 3, reboot, 1, 5

2 and 4 are trash, didnt like any of them.
5 has very good gameplay variety but i hated the foes.. it is just insects the whole time. Reboot has the best foes for me

Friendlygamer5d ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

Yui_Suzumiya5d ago

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

DarXyde5d ago

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me

SeTTriP5d ago

This right here is my order as I thought DMC 5 was amazing and obviously 3 comes after 4 was great and 1 for the nastilgic value it holds 2 was so terrible that my local GameStop gave full refunds to people who returned it.
