Persona 4 Golden: The Kotaku Review

Kotaku: "Persona 4 Golden is the ultimate incarnation of a role-playing classic, a seductive game that will worm its way into every corner of your life."

This has gotta be one of the highest rated games in a long time... Though I'm not surprised, it was beyond amazing on PS2, and even better on Vita.

Have you bought it, Snookie? I'm just finishing up Borderlands 2 (Best FPS I've ever played) and I'm now looking for something for my Vita. I've already played Persona 4 on the PS2 and I was just wondering how much new content has been added. I know there are lists of the new content but how does it make the game feel? Does it feel bigger or sufficiently 'different' to warrant a second purchase?

Snookies124172d ago

I have indeed bought it. So far, there have been a number of small changes I've noticed, and some new events intertwined with old ones. All of the changes are for the better it seems. I've only got about 5 hours in right now, but it's wonderful so far. I suppose it depends on how long it's been since you beat P4 last. I held off playing through it again in anticipation for P4 Golden personally.

I would say buy it, but honestly it's up to whether or not you would want to play through the story again. I've found all the little extra things to be really cool though so far! It certainly keeps things exciting, not knowing what to expect with the new events.

Also, it has a really big extras area on the main menu. You can watch all the cutscenes, listen to all the music, watch live performances that were done in Japan based on P3 and P4 music, watch trailers and things of past Persona games, etc.

If you loved the original, there's no reason not to pick this up when it's even better. Plus it's good to support the company for such an amazing game.

Thanks, Snookie, I think I'll pick this up a little later on. If I remember correctly, haven't they also added a new dungeon in and a bug hunt mini game?

There's also new characters, Persona, and the overall presentation is amazing.

Yea I don't recall too many games getting 95+/100 scores by so many different sites.

I'm not into the whole demon dark atmosphere type stuff, which is why I have yet to try a shin megami game or any persona...

PS4 looks really good though.

In the first time in history, I bought a game before buying the console/handheld. Persona Golden. I just fell in love with persona fes with that PSN release. Just shocked I discovered the series late, and missed out these gems.

Anywho, waiting for that $199 bundle!

"Kirk: Yukiko is Daphne, I GUESS—though Rise is kind of a Daphne too.

Jason: You're a Daphne."

Lol, I enjoyed this review

izumo_lee4171d ago

This is one of Kotaku's better reviews cause it is just 2 guys talking about their experiences with a legendary game.

No number attached, no score, just opinions of 2 guys playing the game for the very first time. Kotaku has had a reputation of questionable articles but this one is breath of fresh air. Good job guys!

I CAN NOT put this game down. Since release it has consumed my life

I'll have to make this a mission the next time I blow through Tokyo.

Hopefully soon, given the limited availability.

Seraphim286d ago

send me one while you're at it. I mean what's better than Whiskey and Persona? A cigar with the two, and that would be perfection personified.

Remasters And Remakes Make Up 90 Percent Of 2023's Highest-Rated Games

Only one of the games on the top ten is completely original.

90 percent of Metacrtitic's top ten highest-rated games of 2023 so far are remasters and remakes, with Hi-Fi Rush acting as the only wholly original game to make the list so far.

We might only be in March, but it seems like we've already got tons of great games to be talking about, including Dead Space, Resident Evil 4, Hi-Fi Rush, Persona 4 Golden, and Metroid Prime Remastered. There is one commonality between those games, however - most of them are remakes and remasters.

I don't usually buy Switch games until the holidays when they have the elusive sale.

dead_pixels405d ago

Can't blame you there. The bargains don't come too often on the eShop, that's for sure.

FinalFantasyFanatic404d ago

I feel like they're getting stingier and stingier, at this point, if the game is on something else, I'd rather buy it there where it's cheaper.

Already own physical versions of Persona 5 Royal and Persona 5 Strikers along with digital versions of Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden on Switch. Will definitely double dip if physical versions of Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden.
