(PS1) 30 Minutes of Game: CHRONO CROSS

Hello everyone, I am THEPLAYGAMER3. Welcome to 30 Minutes of Game: Chrono Cross.

Chrono Cross (クロノ・クロス Kurono Kurosu?) is a role-playing video game developed and published by Square (now Square Enix) for the PlayStation video game console. It is the sequel to Chrono Trigger, which was released in 1995 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Chrono Cross was developed primarily by scenarist and director Masato Kato and other designers from Chrono Trigger, including art director Yasuyuki Honne and composer Yasunori Mitsuda. Nobuteru Yūki designed the characters of the game.

The story of Chrono Cross focuses on a teenage boy named Serge and a theme of parallel worlds. Faced with an alternate reality in which he died as a child, Serge endeavors to discover the truth of the two worlds' divergence. The flashy thief Kid and many other characters assist him in his travels around the tropical archipelago El Nido. Struggling to uncover his past and find the mysterious Frozen Flame,...

Fantastic game, I actually have two copies of it, the original and the greatest hits versions lol.

It only fell short in two ways. The battle system's mechanics could have been done so much better, and it of course couldn't live up to Chrono Trigger even though it's an amazing game in its own right.

I think a lot of the people that didn't like this game, were the ones that didn't get far enough and were saying it didn't have any relation to Trigger. Honestly, I thought the same thing until about half way through when you start hearing about Lavos.

The later half of the game story was just crazy and kinda a bit too much for it's own good.

Snookies124170d ago (Edited 4170d ago )

It did get crazy, but the overall idea of what you were doing when you came to the last boss was pretty awesome. I mean, just the way the events from Chrono Trigger carried over and WHO it was that you had to (or didn't have to) kill.

I dunno, I just thought it was pretty epic when you take a good look at it. Especially if you get the best ending.

AWESOME game. They do not make games like these anymore. I still have it on my PS3 alongwith several other PSone classics. I love the PSone era. Going to play FFIX soon.

biddern14170d ago

Yes, it's still a great RPG. way better then what's Square have out now.

Snookies124170d ago

That is very true, I just wish they'd go back to their old games and figure out what made them so great in the first place...

Ugh still never had the chance to play this.
Still waiting for Chrono Cross and Trigger to be released on the EU store >_>
Looks really good.

The game's epic and the soundtrack is terrific. I beat it like 2 years ago and I'd want to play it again if I didn't have so many games on my backlog.

InsaneChronos4170d ago

I playiing this game even now, in 2012. One of the greatest games with one of the greatest soundtracks ever. Man, I'm in love with Chrono Cross. I have no words to describe its brilliance.

Now there's a classic right there. I remembered playing this game multiple times back in the day. A worthy game to have in one's personal collection.

Yuji Naka guilty of insider trading breaks silence to accuse Square Enix producer of lies

Yuji Naka was fined $1.2 million and given a suspended jail sentence for the crime.

I find his comments around how Balan turned out to be very insightful as to why the game is trash. He basically apologises for its existence

solideagle8d ago

can you please give some of us who don't know anything about this, a summary of what happened?

Chocoburger7d ago

Balan was knowingly rushed out by S-E, it had an extremely short dev cycle and was fairly low budget.
Naka was the game's director until near the end when he was fired or perhaps he quit, I forgot.

carrotcakeag7d ago

@Chocoburger Yeah they did fire and replace him which caused him to unload a bunch of rants about the company. The project only existed because of Naka in the first place, he convinced Square to give him one shot at making a platformer. They gave him an opportunity but pulled the rug out before he was done for reasons not explained.

Hopefully they don’t. From this it doesn’t sound like that is the case and development is just taking too long.
