No bail for imprisoned ArmA 3 Developers

As the czech news provider Rozhlas reveals, the two imprisoned Bohemia Interactive employees Ivan Buchta and Martin Pezlar have been denied any right to post bail. After 70 days of jail, a period far longer than usual, they now face a court trial in front of a Greek jury on the acclaimed accusations of espionage on military installations. By Greek law this could mean a possible imprisonment of up to 20 years, if they are found guilty.

This is total B.S.

If anyone wanted info on their bases all you gotta do is log onto Goolge Earth and hit Zoom +

Greece is Bankrupt anyway so their bases are filled with equipment that is falling apart or stuff being sold off to raise cash!

If I'm correct their parents contacted the president and prime minister, so I'm sure they'll be released once the Czech Republic pays for their freedom.

Doesn't matter. Countries don't tend to like foreigners entering restricted military space without permission and with camcorders that will contribute to the creation of a video game played by thousands of people.

That's kinda a big no no.

I don't think they entered a restricted military zone. They were just seen taking photos of military compounds, and most likely other parts of the island. It's pretty obvious they were there to take pictures of the landscape for the game.

Those charging these people who have families and kids at home with espionage should be slapped.

Zodiac4176d ago

the reports say that the got photos and video of a military base.

They may not have known it was a military base, but the worlds governments could care less if you did something by accident. That flew out the window a loooooong time ago.

They are most likely still be held there under technicalities, but it was a incredibly stupid move on the developers part.

I don't believe they should held there this long, but they didn't exactly do something as trivial as keeping the flash on in a museum.

Also, they were arrested on the spot. They obviously were where soldiers were patrolling.

I give my support to them, but they really screwed themselves here.

ChronoJoe4176d ago

If you payed attention, they're Arma 3 developers... so taking photos of the base was clearly their intent, not accidental.

For the most part that's not that big of a deal provided you don't enter a restricted area. I have a military base near my house at home, it's pretty generic in structure and a few photos aren't liable to harm a sound security system.

Who would want to spy on Greek military bases anyway, of all places? If it were wartime or a time of tension between Greece and uh, anywhere... this might be more understandable.

they are lucky the government controls our military weapons and vehicles...

LocutusEstBorg4176d ago (Edited 4176d ago )

Thanks to the internet making a big deal out of this, we can get the government to listen. Anyone else would be screwed.

They're lucky they didn't get their heads blown off.

Bohemia can suck it with their Day Z cash-ins. So nice that they did a bait and switch before Day Z hit PS5.
