Resident Evil was always supposed to include co-op

What would you say is the worst part about new Resident Evil games? The increasingly convoluted storyline? The emphasis on action over scares? The increased focus on multiplayer that eliminates a lot of those scares that we covet oh so much?

Would it surprise you then to know that multiplayer had always been a part of the Resident Evil plan?

Capcom are just trying to justify the co-op ny saying its always been planned.

If that was the case RE4 would of had co-op but it didn't. RE5 only added co-op half way througj development when they wanted more sales/money. Take a look at the RE5 concept art, the game looked much better without it

Did you read the article? This was from a issue of EGM in 1999. If that was planned by Capcom then I'd have to give them major props for being that forward thinking to set it up way back then.

It's bullshit, if they wanted it..they would have done it back then and even with RE4. Sure they expressed interest on the subject, but for a survival horror game they knew it wouldn't work. Just look at RE5 and 6, the tension, survival just isn't there.

Sometimes developers say shit to address some concerns.

The whole Coop with RE5 only happened due to the increase rise of team based games, from gears (being the influence, just look at chris) and Left for dead, etc. They wanted to keep up.

Sadly, some people will just look at the title and dismiss it as PR talk.

Anyways, it does make you wonder if the series would have been as successful if co-op was originally implemented as Mikami had planned.

If we're going to make assumptions about why it wasn't put in how about this one. The team making it was on a deadline and since co-op couldn't be implemented in time it was scrapped. That is a much more likely scenario given the fact that co-op was there in the concept phase and they thought it could work.

I agree with the rest of what you say, but I don't think it's that co-op doesn't work for this type of game, it's more that they just didn't do good co-op for the game. The series itself has been on a downward spiral from it's roots, co-op just being the current sounding board.

I think zero was supposed to be co-op but they diden't execute it.

RE Outbreak worked with co-op and still remained scary because you were defenceless (90% of the time) the newer games don't do this.
So whether the old games included co-op or not I still think they would of done it a lot better and kept the scares in.
I wish they would release those games in HD, would work great this gen since everyone's online now.
