"I hope people prefer Mass Effect 3 on Wii U": Straight Right interview

Digitally Downloaded writes: "Straight Right is a game development studio based in Melbourne, Australia, and in conjunction with BioWare and EA, it’s the one responsible for porting Mass Effect 3 to the Wii U. Being its first console title in development, we were naturally curious about its experience and impressions on how it was faring with building the title on Wii U."

"Well it is a next-gen platform, in that it's the next generation of hardware from Nintendo. Will the successors to the PS3 and 360 be more powerful? Almost certainly."

from the mouth of the developers who are porting ME:3.

Jinkies4172d ago (Edited 4172d ago )

No offense I'm NOT questioning if Nintendos Wii U is a next gen console, I kind of do but the point is people always bring up that other devs have said the opposite, that it definetly is. At the end of the day all they are trying to do is sell their game on the Wii U I mean it's not like they would say something negative about it. The developers not making big games for the Wii U havent said much, the developers who are making big games for it, Gearbox for example have been talking non stop about it

Just saying...

I feel you both are on the same "side"/point

Godmars2904172d ago

Will or how will it play ME4 is the question.

Nevermind that this is coming from Bioware's ever honest PR department.

BitbyDeath4172d ago (Edited 4172d ago )

Nintendo's first party don't need much power considering the types of games they produce.

As for multiplats i think we are at a stage now where even though Wii U may be a lot less powerful the ports should be able to still be converted and still look quite decent.

If anything holds the 3rd parties back it'd be the tablet.

josephayal4172d ago

The Wii U has a powerful GPU with more HP than the rivals

2pacalypsenow4172d ago (Edited 4172d ago )

They should prefer the PC then because that's a next Gen Machine its currently evolving

You omitted the essential part:

"...But over the years Nintendo have shown that raw processing and graphics power aren't everything. And I think a lot of gamers are starting to see that too." - Tom Crago, CEO of Straight Right.

Here's another perspective, from another interview on the same site:

"I think if we're going to learn one thing from the upcoming next generation of consoles than it is the fact that technological advances are not that important anymore. The Wii already demonstrated amply that innovation in interaction design trumps innovation in chip design. While the Wii U is up-to-date when it comes to tech – especially the graphics tech is impressive – the main innovation is in the online systems and the new controller." - Martin Pichlmair, CEO of Broken Rules.

I honestly think that says it all, really - if not more.

All it will be is ME3 with the same bad ending ported on to the WiiU with a couple of rudamentary touch/motion features that could otherwise be completed in less time or more efficiently with a keyboard & mouse or controller and this is true for most of this touch/motion tech.

TuxedoMoon4172d ago

Why didn't they just port the Mass effect Collection to the Wii-u too? The whole point of Mass Effect was that it's a 3 game adventure, wasn't it?

NicSage4172d ago

I have not played any of the ME games, have not had access to the first on ps3 till collection.

TekoIie4172d ago

I think Ninty are desperate to get it as a launch title so down the road the collection will most likely find its way onto the Wii U.

Aloren4172d ago

They'll port the collection when people actually own the wii u... while the install base in a few months may be enough to justify one port, I doubt it'd be enough to make the porting of 3 current gen title worth their while.
Maybe next year...

wishingW3L4172d ago (Edited 4172d ago )

Xbox and PS3 owners will be paying $60 for the entire trilogy while Wii U gamers will be paying $60 for just 1 game.

Deku-Johnny4172d ago

Wii U gamers will be paying $60 for the definitive version of the game though.

2pacalypsenow4172d ago

The definitive version is on Pc,Xbox, and Ps3 since all 3 games are out for those consoles , you cant port your Shepard from ME1 into the wii u version ... so no

TekoIie4172d ago (Edited 4172d ago )

You know they said the exact same thing about the PS3 version of ME2...

The exact opposite happened if your wondering what the outcome was...

Qrphe4172d ago

That's probably not true given the history of ME2. I honestly see no point in releasing ME3 on the Wii U at all by itself, specially since it's the worst game of the 3; it seems like a lazy attempt to sell some copies.

wiiulee4172d ago

sounds like they put alot of work into wiiu games
