Rockstar: We could have easily released a new GTA every year

Rockstar has claimed that it could have "easily" turned Grand Theft Auto into an annual franchise by 'churning out' a new GTA every year, but decided against doing so over fears that fans would "lose interest" in the series.

Thank god they're taking their time with each title... Treat your game with the respect it deserves. The developers that keep pushing yearly releases will never have the quality a title crafted with loving care over the years will have.

That statement alone will keep R* relevant for years to come, The game looks so smooth, and with R* dropping the second trailer today, things can only get better.

That’s the thing man, they couldn't make a "GTA" city every year. I'm sure they could churn out "GTA Stories" type games every year, but what they put into making a living, breathing city the way they do is not something that could be done that fast.

Totally agreed. Rockstar are the best developers in gaming history in my opinion with Kojima and Naughty Dog following behind them respectively.

All the respect to Rockstar for respecting their games and gamers by not releasing cash grab yearly releases, but instead taking their time to deliver masterpiece after masterpiece.

good don't release a game every year. but on a side note unlike activsion, Rockstar has established IP's that actually sell. activision all they really got is CoD and skylanders. not only that their franchises have a dedicated fanbase, you know how many people are itching for a new bully, manhunt etc. hell i know alot of people that want another warriors game and/or a remake of the original one.

Agreed. Rockstar, whether people like their games or not (how can't you?), have to be shown the utmost respect by gamers. They are one of only a few developers who take risks, and take time to develop their games.

The had LA Noire, and brought back a sequel to the almost forgotten Max Payne and a Red Dead franchise.
Always had massive respect for Rockstar.

2 of them is decent.. Those expansions added to part 4.. Last gen had many GTA titles so im glad they took it easy this time.. But an actual GTA true sequel being made in the same gen is a first..

I only played gta4 like 2 or 3 hours.by that time i was playing on a projector, and the brightness and contrast weren't that good, my eyes were almost bleeding, with such effort.

Guys, I've played some open world games like infamous, arkham city,saints row 3,etc.
Right now I'm playing dishonored (excellent so far), and once I finish it, I will start the assassins creed series, I have bought the first one via psn, and all the others, the boxes are unopened. Once I finish the series, mass effect 1 should have been released, and even if Ive played me2 and me3 2 times, I want to start a new game from scratch, with ALL the extensions and packs i already own, and omega extension.

The question is: by that time, we should be on february. Do you believe its worth starting gta4, when gta5 is about to be released? Or should i skip the 4, and start directly with the 5? I'm afraid of investing a big amount of hours on gta4, with the extensions, and then, the 5 is 'barely' the same as the 4, with New content and missions, but the same gameplay,etc.

If it was a 8 hour long game, no problem. But with the full game and the extension balad of gay tony, I think, I could be playing it for 50 or more hours. And then, the 5 gets released, and I could lose a bit of interest.

So, I skip the 4 and get the 5, asap? Or should I play the 4, and invest all those hours on it, with the risk of getting a bit bored, because the 4 is still awesome, in 2013, and its a AAA title, and then, everything will be and feel better, with gta5?

From a personal experience with GTA dated back from 1 on the original PS1, I'd say play at least 3, then Vice City, then San Andreas, and skip 4. The problem with 4, it's a more serious tone than just having fun and random activities. If you do decide to play GTA 4, be prepared to do a lot of side missions you do not care to do; I don't want to spoil what they are just in case. If you do find the time to play 3, that's the start of how it went 3D, then Vice City is the beginning of certain perks that was omitted in 3, and San Andreas because of how big and random it is - as well as a very deep story which some would argue is better than 4's story.

So you think its better to start with gta3 and vice city, even before playing/skipping the 4. I guess the stories arent tied like, for example, mass effect... But one thing is sure.. i will for sure have a great time playing gta4, and gta5 is gonna be a AAA monster.and I bet after playing them, i will be curious enough to want to know how everything started, and will want to play the 3.so why not starting with the 3 and vice city...
