Wii U retrocompatibility: How it will work

The first details about the working of Wii games on his younger sister, Wii U, were finally revealed.

Seems a bit cumbersome, but I guess Nintendo knows what they are doing. Still curious to know how come Nintendo won't make it so that the old Wii games up-scale on the Wii U. Nevertheless, I'm still looking forward to the system regardless, and can't wait to see what new games come out for it in the next couple of years.

When will people finally grow a brain and UNDERSTAND the difference between upscaling and rendering. The WiiU will upscale your Wii games and eshop games/whatever to 1080p.

It cannot render the games in 1080p.
(Beause it has original Wii hardware inside with same clockspeeds etc. Therefore no more power to play Wii games than the original Wii had = same resolution as on Wii)

And even if the WiiU would not be able to upscale to 1080p. Your HDTV will. I mean when was the last time you played PS1 games on your HDTV and had 80% black borders surrounding a small SD Ps1 "screen" in the center of your TV?

Even a 1 single pixel image will be upscaled to 1080p its simply zoomed in and stretched to match the full 1080p screen.

Don't know why you (konohashin) made that comparison, because "every single" Wii doesn't play GameCube games. Lol the newer models dropped backwards compatibility so...

Besides, no one mentioned PS3. Anyways, whatever people constantly mention things that have no relevance to try and make a point and sometimes stumble over themselves. ;)

I also used to love Nintendo up until that point and they have become cheap as all hell and it shows with every device they have made since then.

Which have been cut down at production just to save money for Nintendo and sadly morons slop it up either way just like any phone with an apple on it.

I actually was looking forward to the Wii U when I first heard about it, then I started noticing the same thing I see in all their devices.

It was cheaply made, they cut many features out of the device just to save some cash and it is still far from being anything new just catching up to 7 year old systems and honestly doesn't have a any huge graphical jump between them.

So like I said in another post at that point the Wii U to me just became a Wii XL.. Pretty much all it offers is the same crap you got on the Wii with better graphics.

The reason that the PS3 doesn't do PS2 B/C, is because back in 2006, in order to achieve it, you had to have actual PS2 hardware inside of the PS3...being the CPU, the GPU, or both.
The Cell Processor is not powerful enough to emulate most PS2 software by itself.

In Nintendo's case with the Wii U emulating the Wii.....that's not really the case....and to be fair to Nintendo....that's exactly what Nintendo is delivering.

90% of the people bashing Nintendo are Sony fans. There was even that "Wii60 movement" remember? And there is a reason why on most sites Sony fans are called worst fanboys. And when you see how the interwebs thinks about n4g...

So now you know why I talked about the PS3.

And btw.
You know releasing a GC-less Wii when 99% of the people that care about a Wii already bought one and when 85 million Wiis were already sold is something totally different than crippling PS2 support 4 months after launch and then removing it completely 11 months after launch.

I mean complain about the WiiU while your own console is even worse makes no sense HAHA.

And in my case the Wii had backwards compatibility 90% of its time(the last "GC Versions" were produced spring 12)which cant be compared to the crappy PS3 backwards compatiblity that lasted somewhere between 4 and 11 months ;)

Good that we both agree since I never said every Wii supports GC games. So you just wasted time stating the obvious.

Konohashin is right this site is overrun with the same tired old arguments and pointless negativity and most of it seems to come from Sony fanboys (just saying, now watch as my disagrees skyrocket) Nintendo is in the business of making money so they can further invest in the gaming industry which they saved from collapse once already, and now there newest console is being sold at a loss which apparently isnt good enough. If you don't want one get over it and be happy with your console of choice.

I only have a few wiiware games i didn't complete yet, and if i transfer my info, can't I just redownload all of them on wii u, or will it not have wiiware? 3DS has DSiware.

Well, TP is a Wii game, so it'll be able to play that version, at the least. If you've got the GC version, you may be out of luck, but there's been nothing- that I've heard of- officially on whether it would be backwards compatible beyond the Wii.

First time I've ever seen retrocompatibility, by the way.
