Stupid tropes in video games that make no sense

Video games are great, but sometimes they're harboring some dumb things. Sometimes they do those dumb things over and over and over again. Here are a few of those common tropes that need to go.

The one about the turrets is so true. I think Borderlands 2 was poking fun at the absurdity of this gaming cliche, with the first boss battle against Boom & Bewm.

Completing a complex puzzle, going through traps and rooms to find the keys to get past the door...only to find the enemy has passed it.

Exploding barrels - people just leave them around wherever they want. Play Quantum of Solace...there's a ton of them inside a casino for some reason.

Backtracking - Go to point A, beat boss, get item. Go back to town, only to find out you "forgot" something and have to go back there again. After 4-5 trips the NPC you talked to was "kidnapped" or "disappeared" and you have to go there AGAIN to rescue them.

Weapons and ammo magically reset to default at the end of a chapter...

I'm usually very careful to use force equal to what is necessary in most games. I'm very careful with ammo consumption, particularly with weapons I enjoy using....so it pissed me off when after all that care, I'm rewarded with sh**ty default weapons for my trouble at the end of a chapter.

Take Halo 4, for example because it's the most recent game I've played with this trope. You plow through a bunch of covenant using plasma pistols to destroy shields and the covenant carbine for the quick headshot afterwards. You use precision to scythe through all from Elites to grunts with while using very little carbine ammo. You cruise that that section only to have a door lock behind you and a nice cutscene. You get back into action and get boned with that awful assault rifle and decen pistol, instead of the infinitely more effective carbine/plasma pistol combo.

How? Cutscene magic is how. I'm in the middle of some foreign planet surrounded by prometheans but I magically end up with Marine weapons?

Alan Wake did the same s*** only super bones you by removing all of your damn flashlights, flares, and other things that took you an entire chapter to acquire. GRRR...

Only AI can kick down doors, but you can slaughter and entire army by yourself-

This isn't a Halo thing. This is more of every other shooter out there thing. Especially those of the modern variety. It's amazing how some door to some mudhut in the middle of the desert cant be kicked down or even opened by you, but you can slow down time and headshot 3 or 4 guys all huddled up in the same general area after your buddy politely opens the door for you.
