Ouch, Tales of Xilla 2 didn't do so well. It sold below the launch of the original and Namco expected 600k copies to be sold at launch.

Hanso4185d ago

lol no it was a success for BN

knifefight4185d ago

Namco Bandai said it expects to sell 650,000 by the end of the fiscal year, which ends in March.

Though it is true that Xillia 2's debut of 364,000 is much lower than the first Xillia, which sold 525,000 in its first week. With this week's debut, it might reach that goal, but given the way Japanese software sales slow down so much after 2 weeks, it's not a lock.

I had assumed that ALL the recent Vita releases were also released in Japan too, but clearly not. I had said that Vita would jump to 8 - 10,000 in Japan this week based on that assumption, but I reckon the Vita could actually drop in sales this week in Japan. Nearer 60,000 worldwide it is then... maybe as low as 50,000. The PS3 has four titles at the top of the charts; although, because people will be waiting on the Wiiu, I can't see it getting a significant jump. Maybe 22 - 25,000?

knifefight4185d ago

Vita sold 4,800 this week in Japan.
(Not sure why the hardware numbers aren't posted with the software numbers here. They're not divided on GAF, 4-Gamer, or even Media Create's own announcements.)

3DS – 93,989
PS3 – 21,310
PSP – 13,868
PSV – 4,842
Wii – 3,806
PS2 – 1,351
360 – 1,339
NDS – 568

Yeah, as suspected. We'll just have to see how Europe and America impacted the worldwide figure, but it's looking closer to 50,000 than 60,000 for sure... unless all the recent releases had no effect on sales of course, which I doubt. Hardly any boost for the PS3 either, even with 3 titles at the top of the charts? That's really odd. I know I said people would be waiting on the Wiiu but it appears EVERYONE has waited for the Wiiu. I predict HUGE sales for the Wiiu when it launches.

Look at the PS2 go its still selling. I wonder if Sony will discontinue the PS2 first or will Nintendo discontinue the Wii first.

GribbleGrunger4184d ago (Edited 4184d ago )

Looks like I was spot on!

America: 20,728 (I said 20 - 22,000)
Europe: 30,563 (I said 30 - 35,000)
Japan: 5,319 (I said 8 - 10,000)

I'd assumed that Japan had seen some of the recent releases, which is why I put it higher initially.

Total: 59,326 (I said 60,000, 'perhaps' as low as 50,000)

Other territories are included that do not fall under the main three.

I thought the Vita was thriving in japan, or did i mistunderstand something?.

WeAreLegion4185d ago

The Japanese are allergic to most good games.

I really find it difficult to believe that the PS3 didn't sell any more units than last week. I've been thinking about this and with three games at the top of the charts, one would assume that there would be some kind of increase:

[PS3] Tales of Xillia 2 (Bandai Namco Games) {2012.11.01} (¥8.380) – 364.439 / NEW
[PS3] Okami HD (Capcom) {2012.11.01} (¥3.990) – 68.644 / NEW
[PS3] Yakuza 1 & 2 HD Edition (Sega) {2012.11.01} (¥5.229) – 58.138 / NEW

But nothing? Famitsu has more or less the same figures so I guess it must be right. It's just a very odd week.

knifefight4185d ago

PS3 as a system also didn't get a significant increase when RE6 was ruling the charts last month, so what this probably means is that almost everyone in the region who WANTS a PS3, already HAS a PS3. It's never 100% of course, but the system seems to be inching towards its ceiling. New releases don't boost the older machines in the same way they boost new ones.

Jay_miz4185d ago

People aren't going to buy consoles for a sequel or HD releases though. People will have already bought a PS3 for the other Tales games and such, those 3 games wouldn't increase sales for the PS3 at all, though I do really want all three of them.

DivineAssault 4184d ago (Edited 4184d ago )

^^^ Umm so ppl didnt buy consoles for AC3 or Halo 4 then right? we will see soon enough..

knifefight4184d ago (Edited 4184d ago )

Neither of those are out in Japan yet.

But when they arrive (later this month), no, they will not sell consoles, just like Tales of Xillia 2 didn't, Yakuza HD didn't, and Okami HD didn't. The current consoles have pretty much hit their ceilings.

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron - Coming Back for a New Generation

Originally launched in 2011, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is coming to Nintendo Switch, so It's time to look back at the original.

Still have my ps3 copies. Bought it at launch and another one when I found it cheap and in perfect condition about 10 years ago. I wouldn’t buy it on Switch but if they made a PS5 version I would. I still have one of my PS3 Fats hooked up so good to go either way.

darthv7214h ago

Id play it again on the switch. I wished my 360 version was bc but this is still a good way to play.

Fallout 3's Reveal Led To Death Threats And Bethesda's First Security Guard

The artist behind Fallout 4’s Deathclaw reveals just how bad things got back when Bethesda took over the series

anast16h ago

People are stupid I get it. No one should feel unsafe,

But I think they need to talk about why they cut so many corners during the development process and why none of their games ever look current. And why they think all of this is okay while they charge full price.

LucasRuinedChildhood15h ago

As much as Bethesda deserve criticism, that's not really relevant to the reveal of Fallout 3 in 2007.

VenomUK12h ago

The default angle Kotaku always go for is to highlight the worst in gaming.

I would’ve focused on the creative.

gold_drake11h ago

there is no "but". the hell lol
you dont send death threats, period.
