Assassin's Creed III Review | WGTC

"History is both a beautiful and tragic thing. Looking back throughout our kind’s lengthy history, one will find text regarding great achievements, amazing victories and incredible people; however, the very same books also tell tales of war, poverty, murder and unfortunate events that are sadly in a league of their own. In order to fully understand where we’ve been and what we want out of the future, it’s important to analyze both sides of our predecessors’ tales, which will allow us to learn from their mistakes. At least, that’s the result we hope for."

That score is way to high. This game tries to be a grand cinematic masterpiece, but the terrible controls and gameplay restriction drags this game down considerably. In spite of that it still manages to be a great experience, but this game is in no way a 9 out of 10 and certainly not a 95 out of 100. At best this AC3 is an 8 out of 10 and only then because of the amazing naval battles and the scope of what they attempted to do.

Also, playing a full synch run through of the game, shows exactly how bad the controls are and how terrible some the gameplay design worked out. Sadly, AC3 suffers from being overly cinematic and not enough of a game. It feels like Ubisoft was more concerned with how actions looked than how the game played and the game suffers a lot for it.

Doesn't the game open up after Sequence 6?

cleft54185d ago

Thats like saying, doesn't ff13 open up after chapter 10. Yes it does, but the controls are still just as bad. Like I said, it feels more like Ubisoft was concern how AC3 would look if someone watched you play it then how well the game plays for the person playing the game.

My problem isn't that the game is closed up anyways, but rather how slow and sluggish the controls feel and how you get glued to everything. It's almost like they threw away all their lessons from AC:R and AC:B and thats not a good thing at all.

Im enjoying the game quite a bit but there is also alot of problems with it. For one, i cant stand that ubisoft dictates how you should play the missions rather than having a non linear approach to missions.

On that note, the stuff they want you to do for full synch just makes the game bad in so many places. It's not clear what you should do in a lot sequences. And there placement of guards is so fucking annoying it's not even funny. At times I just felt like AC3 was bad, particularly doing the vague chase sequences. Then I would take a breather and do a Naval Battle and love the game again.

The Naval Battles have really convinced me that Ubisoft could make an amazing pirates game if they just focused on Naval warfare and had very little on foot sequences.

The controls especially the free running with the trees is my biggest pet hate, and the whole I can push people out the way but this little branch at the bottom of a tree stops me from moving is a piss take.

Games with the dumbest NPCs

Non-playable characters in certain games are meme material, thanks to their foolish behavior. These are the big-budget games with the dumbest NPCs.

Bethesda makes the most consistently stupid NPCs, like really bad... yet I still can't help but love playing their games. Guilty pleasure, I guess. *sigh* 😩

My first thought was the safe rooms in the resident evil series. When you hear that enchanting music you know you’re safe.

I literally just came here to post this. That music in the Resi 1 safe rooms is playing in my head.

I was thinking TLOU work benches. Although I remember one time where it was a false security.

Perfect. 👌👌

I'd add the top of my highrise apartment in GTA Online. That calm, quiet peace, just knowing as soon as I step out that door I will be bombarded by 8 and 12 year olds calling each other n**** and f****, trolled by combat jets and rocket launchers.

The entire map of SotC is peaceful as hell. Used to just ride around exploring it.

Afterlife in Cyberpunk 2077 is a peaceful area? Erm, hands down and very hard to miss, Misty Olszewski's Esoterica is the absolute epitome of peaceful areas in that game.

The "last of us" deer location i found to be a welcoming respite. It was nice to not have someone trying to eat me.

Kingdom Hearts tend to present half peaceful areas and most of them are amazing.

'Assassin’s Creed III': Ten Years Later

With the recent reveal of Assassin’s Creed Mirage and the promise that the series will return to its roots, there hasn’t been a better time to get stuck into Assassin’s Creed’s back catalog, whether it’s replaying an old favorite or getting lost in previously looked-over classic.

Ten years later, we miss the old you, Assassin's Creed.

I really enjoyed Assassins Creed 3. My only complaint was that I didn’t enjoy when I had to switch from Connor to Desmond. It’s a personal preference, but Connor’s story was just more fun for me.

On a side note, Black flag was the most enjoyable of the AC games I played.
