Assassin's Creed III, the latest game in the Assassin's Creed franchise, has set a franchise record selling three million units worldwide in its opening week. That would be pretty bad for Liberation, but expected.

GribbleGrunger4180d ago (Edited 4180d ago )

Perspective:

Assassins Creed 3 sold 2.15 million to a userbase of 140 million, while Assassins creed Liberation sold 100,000 to a userbase of 3 million.

People disagree LOL

fermcr, of course they take percentages into account. 100,000 units would be seen as good sales for most games even on the PS3 or 360 in it's first week. What did you expect it to sell?

fermcr4180d ago (Edited 4180d ago )

Ubisoft (and other software company's) don't care for the userbase. They only care if the game sells and they make a profit. If they don't make a profit on a specific platform, then they probably won't release games for it.

extermin8or4180d ago

@femrc: no ubisoft etc do care about the user base; it's part of their allocation of rescources from one project to the next; those are good sales considering the size of the userbase..

dragonyght4180d ago

yeah that doesn't include psn (digital copy)its kinda hard to gauge how much it sold without those

mrbojingles4180d ago

It's only going to get worse (Liberation's sales) from here on out. Isn't like 80% of most game's sales (with exceptions) in their first week?

I'd say Liberation will do 300k max. Which I suppose is good for a small user base, but not lighting the world on fire.

Honestly it's probably a little bit better than I expected, but not great

Nimblest-Assassin4180d ago (Edited 4180d ago )

Liberation is not a good game

It squanders so much potential its frustrating. Why can't dev's understand that you do not need to incorporate vita features to do the most mundane tasks

Aveline is not an interesting character, the persona mechanics feel forced.

The only thing the game does right is emulate the combat and movement in AC3

AC3 was the best game I've played all year ( the last one Im planning on getting is hitman, so that may change)

But ACL was a joke, I was really excited for it to

@fermcr

Are you joking? Ubisoft jumps on every system, hell they have the most wiiU launch titles

MasterCornholio4179d ago

Thats pretty decent compared to other vita games. Currently the top seller is Golden Abyss with over 600000 copies sold.

Actually thats really good for a handheld. For example GOW Chains of Olympus sold 160,909 in its first week. The game to date has sold approximately 3.09 million copies

Ult iMate4179d ago (Edited 4179d ago )

I'll get me a copy of Liberation only this week (been busy with MGS Collection). Don't even know, if I'll buy "big" AC3 this year, but definately getting portable one ASAP.

hkgamer4179d ago

agree.

Some good games may not get much attention at the beginning, but if it is a really good game then those ma get picked up later on by new vita owners.

Akuma-4180d ago (Edited 4180d ago )

assassins creed liberation is such an amazing game on the vita. i still cant believe what a proper game it is. good first week sales for the game as well . ive got assassins creed 3 also but i like playing liberation more. im in awe to play such a title which seems like a ps3 game and i cant wait for other games of the same calibre or better. i cant wait to see killzone mercenaries on vita and im so hyped for cod declassified after being surprised by how good it looks which is akin to the ps3 version.

thank you sony for the most powerful handheld console with amazing games. the vita is amassing a nice collection of quality games which doesnt seem downgraded from bigger console releases. vita has an abundance of games now and im hoping the sales pick up way more this holiday season. i want the most quality built handheld console to succeed so i can keep getting high quality games and consoles in the future instead of weak shoddy handheld consoles with bland and shoddy games.

kneon4180d ago

I've got them both as well and AC3 hasn't even been unwrapped yet, still playing liberation.

Silly gameAr4180d ago

I'm confused. Isn't 100,000 good? Then again, VGCharts...so who really knows.

GribbleGrunger4180d ago

It's not 'good' it's exceptional.

TheUndertaker854180d ago

Plus as stated below nobody really seems to know if VGChartz takes into account digital sales either. If it's not then the number of sales for Liberation posted here would be quite low or at least lower than actual sales numbers.

aquamala4180d ago

I expect the game to come to ps3/360 eventually, unless Sony paid ubi crazy amount of money not to. Why would a third party dev make a vita exclusive when there's a much bigger ps3/360 market

TheUndertaker854180d ago

The same reason developers have been putting out games based on their console counterparts for handhelds since... Pretty much forever?

Tei7774180d ago

100k for AC liberation is great, especially since that doesn't even take into account digital sales. Anyone who has played the game knows that its production value is only fraction of that of AC3, so I expect they'll be making their money by years end.

UBI backed the wrong horse with the extra content, 360 version is selling more, this despite of Halo 4 launching tonight.

Silly gameAr4180d ago

Wow, do people really have to bring Halo up in every gaming article? If people care about Halo, they would be in a Halo article. I'm not even sure what Halo has to do with Assassin's Creed.

TheUndertaker854180d ago

Curious.

Do you think VGChartz takes into account digital sales? I've heard that being a giant no.

Considering AC3 is available via PSN but not XBL(As far as I can tell)what do you really think the odds are that the 360 version has actually sold more?

aquamala4180d ago

Has nothing to do with what ubi decides to back, it's who offered more money

lodossrage4180d ago

The next time a PS3 version of a game outsells a 360 version of a game according to Vgchartz, I'm hoping you remember THIS very post you made.

Too many fanboys being selective around here. You people need to make a choice as to whether or not vgchartz should be considered credible and stick with it. Period.

Aceman184179d ago

@ndivhu

this quote is from the article.

"The difference in sales between the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions is next to nothing. The Xbox 360 version had a 52 percent marketshare, while the PlayStation 3 version had a 48 percent marketshare."

does this sound like the 360 version severely outsold the PS3 version? can see why you are down to one bubble, no one wants to see your constant fanboy nonsense comments over, and over.

1.1 million in europe..., I think Vgchartz might have under-tracked the sales, in the UK alone game is Ubisoft's biggest launch in history, and outsold revelations by more than 100k:

medziarz4180d ago

Vita version doing good, maybe the positive opinions about this game from ACTUAL GAMERS in comments/forums/amazon.com will give the game perpetuate sales

As soon i get money i will buy assassin vita , im broke ... >.<

My first thought was the safe rooms in the resident evil series. When you hear that enchanting music you know you’re safe.

Killer2020UK261d ago

I literally just came here to post this. That music in the Resi 1 safe rooms is playing in my head.

Rimeskeem261d ago

I was thinking TLOU work benches. Although I remember one time where it was a false security.

Perfect. 👌👌

I'd add the top of my highrise apartment in GTA Online. That calm, quiet peace, just knowing as soon as I step out that door I will be bombarded by 8 and 12 year olds calling each other n**** and f****, trolled by combat jets and rocket launchers.

The entire map of SotC is peaceful as hell. Used to just ride around exploring it.

mastershredder261d ago (Edited 261d ago )

Afterlife in Cyberpunk 2077 is a peaceful area? Erm, hands down and very hard to miss, Misty Olszewski's Esoterica is the absolute epitome of peaceful areas in that game.

raiden_188261d ago

The "last of us" deer location i found to be a welcoming respite. It was nice to not have someone trying to eat me.

Kingdom Hearts tend to present half peaceful areas and most of them are amazing.

'Assassin’s Creed III': Ten Years Later

With the recent reveal of Assassin’s Creed Mirage and the promise that the series will return to its roots, there hasn’t been a better time to get stuck into Assassin’s Creed’s back catalog, whether it’s replaying an old favorite or getting lost in previously looked-over classic.

Ten years later, we miss the old you, Assassin's Creed.

Popsicle535d ago (Edited 535d ago )

I really enjoyed Assassins Creed 3. My only complaint was that I didn’t enjoy when I had to switch from Connor to Desmond. It’s a personal preference, but Connor’s story was just more fun for me.

On a side note, Black flag was the most enjoyable of the AC games I played.
