Final Fantasy 13-3 is using assets from Versus 13.

FF Dream recently spoke with SquareEnix’s Julien Merceron, in their discussion they were able to unearth a few details about Final Fantasy 13-3 and Versus 13.

It's more hate for the company than the game. The quality of their games have dropped dramatically...but you would only know this if you were a Squaresoft fan during its golden age.

Any kid can play FFXIII and say it's a decent game, but they have no frame of reference to compare the quality with because they havent grown with the franchise.

FFXIII is GARBAGE compared to their past titles, and theres been a downward decline in that quality since they almost went bankrupt and had to merge.

Lets try something new, how about next time Square enix do a game where you can move in the world and explore it and not a game which you start playing it and you can basically see the last boss from the start because is a strait line from start to finish.

Of course if anyone actually read the article, the title on N4G is misleading. It says "Elements" from Final Fantasy Versus XIII are being used in LRFFXIII not assets. Assets are enemies, characters, animations, etc.

What they're actually most likely (my guess) using is such things as the dynamic Day/Night and weather system Versus has, and elements of Versus' combat system which is a Real-time action sense just like Lightning Returns battle system is.

I don't think that you understand what SE did to Final Fantasy fans when they announced XIII for the 360. We found out that they cut so much out of the game for the 360 that they were able to make 13-2 and now 13-3.

I'm not trying to insult the 360 but that DVD is just too small. So we have very high expectations for Versus XIII. We haven't seen anything objectionable so far, in fact, what we've seen looks fantastic. The features sound like they are correcting all of the mistakes from XIII.

If they announce it for the 360, then we will be VERY disappointed since we have been waiting for over six years and judging by their history, things won't end well. So it isn't about us being fanboys for the PS3, more us being fanboys for Final Fantasy.

My guess is maybe after they showed it to us in Jan 2011 they went into budget problems so Nomura called up Sony and said "We might have to go multiplat or cancel the game." but Sony was probably like this game is to epic to let go out of our hands. Then they had a meeting Sony paid Square to keep the development going on the PS3 and bring it to the PS4 (seeing how the PS4 maybe launching next year and Versus won't be out till like 2014.) Then at E3 Sony and Square will announce FF Versus XIII has been renamed and will becoming to the PS3 & PS4 in 2014.

That's very nice of them. Hopefully when the Final Fantasy 13 trilogy comes to a close, Square will go back to focus on the gaming experiences that the people have asked for. A proper home console traditional jrpg release will do Square Enix and the hopeful jrpg community great justice.

I remember viewing target render videos to Final Fantasy Versus 13 over half a decade ago. Back when this current generation was considered next generation. Still not even a trace of evidence to the survival and or release of Final Fantasy Versus 13 anywhere on the planet. At this point it no longer matters the platform or platforms of release. Just give the people what they deserve.

This situation still sucks for supporters of VS13 who do not like the direction of the 13 series. Hopefully when the FF13 trilogy comes to a close, Square will go back to focus on the gaming experiences that the people have asked for, although I would have preferred sooner rather than later. The release date of VS13 alone would please many who have strayed from the FF series.

I remember the FF VS 13 trailers over 6 years ago; back when this current gen was considered next gen. There have been plenty of reassurances that FFVS 13 is in the works, yet absolutely no evidence that they even care. Just give the people what they deserve, particularly those who have eagerly awaited this unkempt promise.

Not surprising, if 13 and versus 13 are connected by mythos they are probably trying to loosely tie them together story wise. I'm interested but then again I am also one of the few who enjoyed 13 and 13-2. I could actually see that the battle system was the same ATB system they used in 4-9 but made it much faster pace because of the success of FF7: Advent Children....to bad people bored the hate train for no reason, most people that hate the game haven't even played it.

Well I have played it and let me tell you that the battle system is atrocious and boring, the story is equally atrocious and boring but also needlessly convoluted, the characters suck, about the only good parts of the game were the Pulse environment and the music. 13 and 13-2 are an insult to a series that includes games like X-2 and Mystic Quest. 13-3 shouldn't exist and only does exist because SE realized that there are suckers out there who are willing to spend even more money just for an ending that already existed in DLC and Graphic Novels.

This news is essentially saying that Versus XIII is nowhere near complete and SE really don't care. They are trying to make Lightning their new mascot and I have yet to see anyone say they like that idea. Lightning is a worse version of Cloud and, ironically, is more masculine than he is. She just needs to go away. If there is a 13-4, Wada needs to be put in a straight jacket and shipped to an institution.

If you think that you're a lost cause because it is far from the same thing. In FF's 4-9 you get to fight in a manner appropriate to each situation. There is no such thing as an auto-battle (until the remakes implemented that for FF4) with which you can win any battle with ease. Another aspect of the battle system lacking in FF13 but present in 4-9 is the ability to control ALL the characters in battle. This means you can effectively prevent any character from doing something stupid like healing an ally with nearly max HP as opposed to one nearly dead. Another battle aspect of FF13 that's ridiculous is having the leader character be responsible for a game over if it dies, something that doesn't happen in ANY OTHER FF TO DATE!

Preaching to the choir as I hate FF7. But even that game has a better story and characters than FF13. At least FF7 has characters people actually care about and want to know more about. The single character in FF13 you can say that for is MAYBE Sazh and I don't like him either. Pretty much every FF game before 13 has better characters and story, even FF11.

Two things. First, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Meaning the FF staples have worked and have sold so many millions of copies of FF games that there is no justifiable reason to change something that works. Add upon it, change what doesn't work sure, but do not do a complete 180 and take inspiration from generic western shooters. Second, you can't be nostalgic over something that hasn't happened so in the case of VS no one has any kind of goggles on in that regard.

Don't put words into my post, you're not going to get any girlfriends (boyfriends?) trying to play the white knight card when nothing sexist was said or implied. Lightning is a crap character. She's not strong, she's emotionless (or b*tchy, take your pick) and flat. Cloud, who is more of an emo than most FF characters, has more personality than Lightning does and I can't stand him. Hell, Squall has more personal growth than Lightning. I'd even say the completely lifeless FF1 characters have more personality than Lightning. She's terrible.

Paradigm shifts are very close to sphere changes. "auto-battle with which you can win any battle with ease". I DARE you to beat all of the missions with ease. Auto battle wont switch your paradigms, and thats the core of the gameplay. Saying you can win ANY battle just by pressing auto-battle, is just wrong.

I platinumed both games and bought collectors editions of both. So I will go on record and say that Dragon knight DOES know what he is talking about, I know that he is a TRUE final fantasy fan.
First game sucked. Not a FF game at all and I have played all except 5. Second game was only less worse, definitely more tolerable but not something that deserves more games.

Read the actual source, they said they are using "elements", not assets. This could essentially be anything, including aspects of the gameplay design, which is probably what they're talking out here as XIII-3 allows complete control you character and includes reflex actions(blocking/dodging etc), similar to vsXIII. It would make sense that this game would fit somewhere between XIII and versusXIII in terms of gameplay, as so its borrows "elements" from both games. If they were talking about assets, NPC rigs and animation would be the 1st thing to come to mind.

I'm not even going to worry about it anymore! Verses 13 and The Last Guardian, were games that were shown early on in the PS3's life-cycle and were two of the main reasons for me initially getting a PS3 so early. So, where are they? No doubt I'll still get them but I not holding my breath anymore. I wouldn't even doubt it if Sony announced these two titles for the PS4. I'm sure it would be cool but for people like me that initially purchased a PS3 for these titles, it isn't cool... What's up with Square and Team Ico anyway? Final Fantasy Versus XIII began development in 2005. It was announced at E3 in 2006.

Every other game revealed in that same time-frame that wasn't released was cancelled by 2008 (looking at you, Bumpy Trot 2).

We are fast approaching 2013, which will mark 8 years since development began and 7 years since Final Fantasy Versus XIII was officially unveiled.

Think about that for a moment: eight years.

That means that their are children playing Call or Duty on Xbox Live -right now- calling people ******s and sand ******s who weren't even born when Versus XIII was announced.

And if that makes you feel old now, it's your own damned fault for not looking up the term "vaporware" years ago.

If all goes well we get Lightning Returns AND Versus XIII, both of which sound like really immense games.

However, at the VERY least I'm expecting Lightning Returns in 2013, and a solid 2014 release date for Versus.

If we get neither of those things in 2013, then I'll be pretty disappointed. But whatever, we're not entitled to this stuff, just let them do their thing in their own time and hopefully they'll produce some awesome games.
