First images and details for premium edition of ‘The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’

The first images and details have been revealed for the upcoming premium edition of last year’s multiplatform open-world role-playing game, “The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.”

Oblivion had a GOTY edition long before they finished releasing content for it. Given all of the stuff in the dev workshop they did in the last week or two before release that still hasn't shown up in the game, I'd honestly be surprised if they weren't releasing more stuff.

Seriously. What's become of Bethesda these days? I mean, they've been falling downhill ever since the release of Oblivion and they just keep falling. Not trying to point fingers, but I feel like Microsoft is partially to blame for this. (Okay, yeah, I'm pointing fingers, shut up lol) Bethesda has been doing far too much selling out to MS, and dumbing down their games as a result. (Not to mention the horrid PS3 ports.)

I'm pretty sure I can honestly say I will be avoiding anything with Bethesda's name on it from here on out.

I figured I'd throw in some likely explanations of why the PS3 version is has so many problems, just so you guys know why this is happening and don't feel completely shafted. I'm not saying it's excusable, just stating the reasoning.

-One of the main reasons the PS3's Skyrim is so buggy is the same reason why many PS3 games are buggier than their PC/360 counterparts: The PS3 is much more awkward to design games on when you're dealing with cross-platform games. The console's hardware and software architecture is just more difficult to work with in general. Some of this is due to Sony trying to implement their own new tech, and some of it is because they just couldn't use what they wanted due to existing patents (e.g. no NTFS support).

-The second reason is that Bethesda actually used another company to make the Oblivion PS3 port last time. 4J Studios made the Oblivion port (these are the same guys who ported Minecraft for Xbox 360), and Bethesda generally struggles to make games on the PS3. From what I've read before, one of the ways companies deal with the PS3's issues is by leading with the PS3 version's development (making the PS3 version first). However, we know Bethesda doesn't do this because their games was pretty much made on their creation kit (which actually works on the 360 too).

-The last reason I'm throwing here is one that I'm not sure applies to Bethesda: This is advanced Console Developer support. Companies like Sony and Microsoft always play favorites with game developers, and offer certain amounts of their own support. These include ways to save time in coding and better utilize the console's hardware. Many people assume that devs know the console inside and out, but that's really not the case. This was also one of the reasons GabeN hated the PS3 at first and felt bad for PS3 players of his games, but became more open once Sony offered Valve support.

TL:DR: PS3 can be a bitch to makes games on, Bethesda has had to rely on other companies to make PS3 ports in the past, Console Developer support is important, Microsoft treats its bitches well.

Good thing i only payed $40 for this game cuz i wouldve been pissed off had i dropped $60 & this gets released so soon.. They couldve added the dlc but i guess theyre gonna release a GOTY edition of it too.. Then the ultimate edition a year later w more swag, all dlc, & steel case.. smh im beginning to dislike bethesda.. BTW, wheres the Wii U version? Its supposed to get so much support but i dont see it

I just want Skyrim DLC on the PS3. I love this game, and still play it even after getting platinum. I'm not going to bash Bethesda because even without dlc (which is really frustrating), I still found Skyrim worth the price.

Yes I did suffer some dead-end quests that were glitched or bugs and serious frame rate issues (which was fixed), I was impressed over the performance when the game looks this good. I really hope Bethesda gives the PS3 better treatment in the future titles, especially since there are a lot of PS3 gamers willing to buy their games.

All in all, I really hope they learned all they needed to learn from PS3 developement for Fallout 4- unless that's next gen.

So they're making a premium edition LATE, costs alot, and the game still won't have the DLC? So pay extra, still have to pay more?

Somehow I think this isn't going to be a big seller. What PS3 fans NOW wants to reward them with more money (or get it in the first place) knowing it's a broke game on the PS3? So I doubt many of any version is sold, but even less on the PS3.

If they were going to re-release the game, why not do it so it WORKS with DLC? You know have it embedded in like every other mission. Oh you mean they'd have to do some work for that?

Then again people would get mad if they did that, so maybe they should have just scrapped the whole idea on the PS3 and spent the time trying to fix the problem.

As for the other versions, why pay more than full price for a game that isn't even complete? (hell the preorder regular version came with a premium thick cloth map). So one of the reasons to buy this version already is in the hands of many people who preordered it (or at least a similar premium map)

Just doesn't make sense all around, especially since it tends to be discounted more often now, and then the disparity in price for what amounts to almost nothing is huge.

I'm getting so sick of seeing PS3 owners whining and crying that they didn't get DLC. Bethesda didn't say "We're going to not make DLC for PS3 just to piss everyone off."
Obviously it's because the PS3 is hard to program for. I'm not a fanboy, I prefer the PS3, but seriously, it's a fact that the PS3 is very hard to program for. It's not Bethesda. It's the PS3.
