From AnalogHype.com: "Cross-Buy, it's Sony's newest method of benefiting gamers. By purchasing the PS3 copy of a Cross-Buy enabled title, you'll also receive a Vita copy of the game at no extra cost, effectively saving you $40 in most cases. But how exactly does this work? Do you receive a voucher in the packaging, or is this somehow tied to your account? Well it seems like Insomniac Games' James Stevenson has given us our first details about this mysterious program."
While Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale didn't get the best review, there are still some aspects of the game that deserve some credit.
Though PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale is a bit of a cult classic, it could have been a big hit if it launched in 2022 instead of 2012.
It wouldn't have mattered, Sony would've rushed it out and left it to die. More so now than before with their focus now being on SP narrative driven AAA games.
Oh, but somehow Smash Bros. 64 made it work?
It just couldn’t compete with Smash Bros. and it wasn’t a free-to-play game like Multiversus.
I think it released at the right time. It's just after the success of Smash and Multiversus, it's finally time for a sequel.
I'd be all in on a remake or remaster of the original. I enjoyed it because I didn't sit there and compare every aspect to SSB. I just enjoyed it as it was.
Sony should make part 2 and dump a good amount of money on it. Scrap super only kills and it's bound to succeed.
God of War: Ragnarok has plenty of fun references to PlayStation history, but now fans have discovered a conversation that calls back to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale — the crossover fighting game released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.
That’s interesting. It actually does make it canon lol. He mentioned it in a mainline game. I’d say that’s pretty cool.
That seems the best way to go about making this cross-buy feature work with retail copies. And make sure Sony doesn't lose money, when they could be gaining it with sales of the Vita copy being sold by them or by an authorized retailer.
I wonder, how will this work with used copies of the PS3 version?
If I had to bet I would go with 'Cross-Buy only on digital purchases'. Everything else doesn't make sense from a company view. If it did some disc verification, everyone could borrow the PS3 version and get the VITA version for free. If they included a voucher people would sell it on ebay, effectively getting the PS3-game cheaper and whoever buys the VITA-voucher also buying a cheaper game, without the publisher making money from it. Even if it is combined in the online-pass, which could very well be, people would sell it on ebay and just buy the pass for 10 bucks in the store. There is no other way for SONY to make sure people don't abuse cross-buy than making it digital purchase only. Another reason is that they want to push digital sales anyway.
While I would love to be wrong and to get a voucher with the ragular disc game I certainly doubt it.
Isn't it more likely to be a hidden feature of the latest firmware?
Please, how many games are cross buy? Great idea that is rarely used and I don't blame them, they lose money on it.
While I'm a big fan of the -concept- of cross-buy, in practice... not so much. Mostly because it all seems to be one way--buy a PS3 game, get a Vita game, rather than the other way around. Meaning the Vita games will -always- be digital.
The whole overpriced proprietary memory format aside, even the 32GB card fills up rather rapidly.
