These 4 and 5/10 scores are just getting silly and almost spiteful now, as if they WANT people to think it's an unplayable mess, when it's not even close to that.

It's not likely to scoop up any GOTY's or blow your mind, but it's a solid, competent shooter and minor niggle which every other shooter gets away with is brutalizing MoH's score.

Unoriginal maps, familiar gameplay, killing lots of people, globe trotting and no character attachment?

You could easily a apply any and all of those to just about EVERY military FPS yet they get 7 or 8, and *GASP* COD is just as culpible of these flaws yet it cleans house with 9.5's and 10's every. single. year.

Ridiculously harsh score, if ANY of the sites i have seen score this sub 6/10 then give BLOPS2 a 9 or 10, my very little remaining faith in gaming journalism will die.

Edit: I'm only using COD as a high profile example and not suggesting any conspiracy theory etc.

This can easily apply to even the predecessor MOH 2010, BF3 etc. Take your pick. They ALL score higher than this and it's arguably better than some of the other shooters out there.

I'll be keeping an eye on future shooter reviews and hope they are greeted in the same, nit picking fashion. i'll accept their score if they are at least consistent.

Never know, you may be right. I think what was said in the video review is probably pretty accurate, but i'm not sure the score lines up with it based on what i have seen in the past. a 6/10 would ring a lot truer.

I'm only an 2 hours into the game, but honestly it's no masterpiece its just a step below COD(glitchier, buggier), but some of the criticism this game has been getting you could apply to every single COD game since 4, so far Gamespot's review seems to be the most honest, if you like FPS check it out when it drops down in price, it's really not that bad.

You're correct that we can't judge a game before playing it, but are we really to assume that Black Ops 2 will be SUCH a drastic departure and improvement from previous Call of Duty games, with core gameplay mechanics that will sway people who are sick and tired of COD already? Besides, if we shan't talk about Blops 2, we can certainly talk about MW3, which was complete and total trash according to almost everyone I've talked to online and my friends. you guys really need to look up the Eurogamer fiasco. The guy pretty much called out review journalists getting chummy with PR teams.

If your a journalist and you're getting exclusive behind closed door footage, interviews, swag bags in an industry where their paychecks (advertising) come from the very people they are reviewing. What's gonna happen if you give your PR "friends" a low score?

All those extra perks stop and you risk publishers pulling their advertisement funding through their web site.

It's no secret that a major source of income from these websites is the advertising campaigns spent promoting a new game. There's no guessing there.

I wouldn't say that. A ton of EA games have been "peaking" lately in terms of critical reception. Games like Madden and Fifa have been getting top marks. Also, the newest SSX was well received, as was the NBA Jam remake.

Then there's BF3, Mass Effect 3, Dead Space 2. EA has been on an upswing compared to early on this gen (critically speaking).

Absolute BS. Sure, there is a vocal minority on the internet that hates EA (for good reason, they are greedy A-holes), but if anything, reviewers bend over for EA, while they conveniently slip a swag bag in.

FIFA, NFS, Mass Effect, Dead Space etc. Not saying they don't deserve good reviews, just that you can't say that to defend an obviously shoddy attempt at a FPS.

If EA took the franchise seriously, they wouldn't have it on calendar for release every 2 years. They would only release it when it was done.

Listen the truth is this game is bad ass but only on the PS3 and Xbox 360 as the PC version of the game is very buggy in both single and multiplayer but what they did as an overall FPS is excellent,the battlefields are amazing i do miss the the heli's ,the tanks,the apc's and of coarse the jets ,but lets face it no one has been able to do that like Dice has and Dice didn't have their hands on this game much if at all so give Danger Closer props where props is due this is their second game and its Amazing look how many games it takes most Devs to get it right,just keeping it one hundred!!!

This. People complain that "every game gets a 7 or higher" and that it's too hard to separate the average games from the above average. Yet when sites finally start cracking down on poor execution in game design (RE6, MOH) we get droves of gamers crying out that it's "too harsh".

Frankly, I'm thrilled to see this. Not because I have anything against this particular game (I don't), but because it's nice to see the bottom half of the rating system get used for a change. I'm sick of seeing shoddy games get away with 7s when they deserve much worse. Hopefully this mentality sticks around and the critics stop being scared of using anything lower than a 5/10.

I play this game on PC and I've honestly enjoyed many hours so far.. There's some bugs that need to be fixed, but it's not a total disaster... as far as the campaign goes.. I haven't touched it and probably never will.. I don't buy shooters for the singleplayer.. I'm disappointed with the game.. but not as much as most

I feel like all these negative reviews are a backlash to EA not providing review copies of the game. This game is fun as hell. If you don't like shooters you shouldn't even be following this game, for those who do, this game is fun ass hell. I've played a ton of shooters (nearly every high profile one) over the years and this is better than most. This score doesn't make any sense to me.

The menus need some work and there are some glitches, but the gun play is fantastic, the graphics are solid, and the online modes are fun. I've been playing Battlefield 3 all year (about 500 hours between two accounts) and this game is much less flawed.

Are these reviews going to force you to enjoy the game any less? Reviews are opinions, and yes, sometimes they are paid opinions, get over it. This is nothing new. I like many games that didn't receive great scores, and I also like games where I felt that review scores were too high. Warfighter was a disappointment, but I think a 4 is a little steep. I'd give it a 5 or 6. It wasn't a *bad* game--it was a recycled FPS experience. It just wasn't very appealing. Shoot terrorists, find some super weapon, shoot terrorists, discover a bad guy, shoot terrorists, kill a bad guy then find the bad guy's boss, shoot terrorists, kill the bad guy's boss, credit scroll. The characters were hardly relatable, the story was predictable, and the gameplay was the same old crap that CoD, Battlefield, and other Medal of Honor games have been recycling for nearly 10 years now.

Also, inb4 BlOps 2 gets a higher review score even though it will probably be just as lackluster.

This game isn't a 4, it's a 6 atleast, the campaign looks better than BF3 but it's average at best.
The multiplayer does try to innovate, the buddy system is pretty awesome, I love playing it with my friends, and the maps are good, but the player count is a let down. But, it doesn't offer a good SP experience. The MP gets a 9 but the SP gets 3.

The campaign is pretty buggy, the MP only got minor bugs, nothing game breaking. The graphics are better than BF3's graphics. the game is worth 30 dollars but not 60, so I would recommend buying it if you got that discount

Calling out all of IGN's reviews is still very silly. Take every review from the author, not the website. Mitch Dyer (the author of this review) has been around the games journalism scene for quite a while and as far as I'm concerned he's very respectable. He seems like the type of author that doesn't write what you want to hear but writes what he wants to say. He is one of the few IGN staff members I have respect for and view his writing without a grain of salt.

MoH 2010 compare to MoH 2012, it made some major improvements (people hated that DICE made the sloppy MP in the 2010) so why did it slammed so hard? You'd think it's score would be around the same or a tint higher right?

I see it as a game mode that me and some friends had immense fun playing and now that there's 8-player zombies we can have a whole party play together. Battlefield 4 will score the same as the next Call of Duty, if not higher. Hell if Battlefield 4 did have dinosaurs, I'd buy it and be stoked because of dinosaurs.

I wouldn't give any Call of Duty above an 8 except for maybe Modern Warfare 1 and World at War. What is it about Call of Duty that upsets you so much? The problem with people like you is that you have a problem with CoD releasing every year. Like I stated in my earlier comment, CoD works and it works well. They have the formula down-packed. why are people bitching about the score? isn't a score of 4 below standard. I mean a 5 is average since we are using a scale from 1-10 so therefore just like in a score in every other medium or service it is considered average. just as a C would be or a 3 in a scale of 1-5. being a 4 at the time of review is realistic as this game needed a big patch on day 1 therefore it more than likely didn't have all issues resolved. people need to get off the whole CoD is ruining the industry. its the developers fault for trying to emulate it. CoD is a smooth experice regardless if you like the franchise or not.
