Top 5 Best Looking Games of 2013

Gamingvogue: It’s 2012 and there have been so many memorable and good looking games released so far. One thing that still surprises us is the fact that 2013 will feature some stunning games that will no doubt push the bar very high. We have compiled a list of 5 such games, yeah, that’s right, not 10, 15 or 25, but don’t give us ideas, heh.

Pretty good list... I'd add Bioshock Infinite too. From what I've see, it's looking pretty... well... pretty. And God of War looks really good visually too. Gears of War will look good also. It's one of the few games that really uses Unreal well.

I don't know why you're getting disagrees with The Last of Us. What we've seen is beautiful, and Naughty Dog has proven their capability of making beautiful games.

I would add Ni No Kuni. That game looks incredible. I know it isn't photo-realism. But we are talking "looks" here and I would follow it with the new Sim City... don't know why it just looks fantastic.

Not even close, I think it's ugly. A lot of games look better, what is so impressive about TLoU visually? Good animations, good water effects, highly detailed main characters.... That's it.

For the bad points it has terrible jaggies, all the bad guys are poorly detailed in comparison to the main characters, the lighting is flat, the foliage looks terrible and the game is riddled with low resolution textures. It's above average but nothing special at all, I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed when the game releases.

Crysis 3 on PC will be the best looking game to date full stop. Just look at the latest tech demos and you'll see why. Though Unreal Engine 4 is coming soon and I'm looking forward to working with it. I know from experience creating game engines, it aint easy and UDK is the best out there from a developer point of view.

While Last of Us is amazing, I think Beyond will slightly edge it out graphically. My personal feeling Last of Us will be more enjoyable to actually play.

Hmmm, think this is more console focused.

Maybe they should do a separate list for PC to keep both sides happy?? I don't game on PC, but at least it would stop arguing.

For consoles, I'm not to sure. In no particular order:
*The Last Of Us (gameplay so far has been very good)
*Beyond Two Souls (wow...such a great vibe from this game, faces look very convincing)
*Gears Judgment (Looks not much different than Gears 3, but that being said, Gears 3 is still one of the most visually impressive games on consoles).
*God Of War Ascension (If the first 3 are anything to go by, this will be a graphics beast)
*Metro Last Light (On PC it looks phenomenal, so hopefully the consoles get something neat as well)>
*Crysis 3 (Never cared much for the series, but its graphical prowess can't be denied)>

At the end of the day, these games are going to be remembered for much more than their graphics. I'm looking most forward to The Last Of Us (hope there is a limited, limited edition with a statue).

True, but I don't think any of us have played any of these games extensively. All of them are promising to different degrees.

I'm personally most excited about The Last of Us and Beyond.

I'm hopeful that Crysis 3 is more open than Crysis 2. Also, I'm looking forward to getting a game that is DX11 from launch instead of patching an incomplete product that didn't run terribly well on the card I had at the time (apparently Crytek forgot that AMD existed when they developed that patch considering the problems I had with tessellation).

Watch Dogs, Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, Metro: Last Light are contenders too. Just cause you're a PlayStation fan, doesn't mean that PC games or even some console games can't outperform PS3 exclusives.

For the record, I'm massively, massively looking forward to TLou, GOW: Ascension and Beyond: Two Souls - they will be stunning games to play and look at, but the ones I listed can also be just as visually stunning.

"Best looking" doesn't even have to be a technical attribute. Take art style for example. Like OllieBoy said above, Ni no Kuni and Puppeteer look gorgeous because of their art styles, not because of the number of polygons they push or environmental detail.

GTA V on the 360 will probably be one of the best looking games out on consoles, did you ever play Red Dead Redemption on the 360?

Rockstar really doesn't get much credit for how good Red Dead Redemption looks on the 360. I've never seen a console game use so much alpha and still be rendered at 720p with anti-aliasing. They even manage to keep vert sync enabled which is pretty impressive, probably the best looking open world game on consoles.

Bioshock Infinite and The Last of Us dominate this list in terms of art style alone. Sure I love 1080p, 60fps and uber real facial animations as much as the next person but give me a unique looking world & characters and I'm sold.

Those games all look fantastic no doubt, just hope there is substance to go with the style when it comes to the games themselves. Those are just the games we know about, I cant help but wonder about the launch titles for the Xbox 720 and PS4, they should both have some really great looking games.

The Last of Us is ugly, not only has it got no artistic style but it has terrible anti-aliasing, hideous foliage, poor lighting and a lot of low resolution textures.

I hope the last of us would have a moodier, grittier atmosphere.. more darker areas would be welcome as well.

It looks good and seems fun so far.. but I can't find it "amazing". (I found UC 2 to be an amazing console game presentation)

I hope the whole game is so much better!
