Not scientific at all. Gamerankings is not a valid source of statistical information. The site wasn't founded until 2000, and Gamerankings itself is not a valid method of evaluation as it does not use the same review sources to rate each game.

If you want to make any sort of scientific list, you'd have to do something more like choosing 20 different sources, and only average the games that all 20 have reviewed at release. Otherwise, there are too many variables and inconsistencies to even pretend at being scientific.
