7 Games Sent to Die on Black Ops II Launch Day

IGN - Whether you're a Call of Duty fan or not, it is impossible to deny that each new entry in the franchise carries with it an insurmountable level of buzz, chaos, and retail insanity. The latest in the series, Black Ops II, is the most pre-ordered video game ever and will likely bring with its launch some of the biggest first-week sales numbers in the history of gaming on November 13th.

moegooner884207d ago (Edited 4207d ago )

Most of these games cater to an audience completely different from the COD one, they seem like games that parents would get for their kids for Christmas.

kratos1234207d ago

these guys are game journalist working for IGN don't expect them to understand that their are other audience groups other than COD Group

HammadTheBeast4207d ago

But honestly, half of those games would've died with or without Black Ops 2. Pretty clever move by the devs.... Blame the death of these games on the "accidental" arrival of CoD.

ikkokucrisis4207d ago

Damn, I was really hoping that Monster High Skultimate Roller Maze was gonna hit its day-1 sales quota...oh well!

Yet another fail article from IGNorant..

Arcee4207d ago

COD = Completely One Dimensional

COD fans think that the only game that matters that day is COD. As a father with two kids, I already was planning on buying Ben 10 and Monster High for my adolescent sons and daughter when I pick up my copy of Black Ops II.

While none of those two games, or the others on the list, will even come close to matching the sales COD will rack up, they will find a small niche with the gamers, young gamers, they are catering to.

Army_of_Darkness4207d ago (Edited 4207d ago )

All of those other games are games that the average gamer don't even care about?! They are all basically casual to children's games.
COD really doesn't have any competition on release when you look at the big picture here.

I hope recently released games go one sale that week like RE6, Dead or alive 5, Borderlands 2, dishonored or sleeping dogs cause I would definitely buy one of those instead:-)

I think he's trying to be funny and making out that only 12 year olds play COD
(just look at the list)
very lame and unprofessional.

chrispseuphoria4207d ago

That's Brian Altano for you. They do this all the time on IGN's Up At Noon.

Cam9774207d ago

I completely agree, there no true competition here.

Muffins12234207d ago

Not really...cod is full of little kids

COD=CHILDREN ONLINE DAYCARE

Detoxx4207d ago

That made my day, thank you sir :D

HammadTheBeast4207d ago

Usually, I would've rolled my eyes, but this was priceless.

braydox214207d ago

thats is funny, however i have had very little experiance with children on cod ( i play on ps3) i have had children (or child like behaviour) on mics with setting switched so they come out really swqeaky, but i have never experianced trash talking kids before and ive played black ops and mw3, the closest thing would be when one smartass kid thought that adults didn't play cod and the kiwi told him he was old enough to be his dad, so there was that unpleastaness communication between those in one match but that was it. you guys are lucky, just so everyone knows Im at senior teenage years, so Im not a tween or 12-10 year old. man you guys are lucky i mean iv'e never had that experiance, i kinda feel left out, but who knows i might get luck this time black ops maybe there will be some arrogant, ignorant kids that i will outwit and disprove all their chilidish insults and insult their intelligence or basically point out their childish stupidity

Run_bare4207d ago

hahaha.. that's funny..

joeorc4207d ago

This list is for casuals but wonder book can hit it big time if advertised a bit for parents to buy for their kids. It's things like wonder books which can sell unexpected numbers and big numbers because it's geared towards kids

With Disney on board I believe wonder book will be a huge success

braydox214207d ago

i saw wonder book at the EB games expo 2012 and it looked great a little bit i suppose maybe glitchy, or sometimes it maybe difficult to turn pages. but that was a demo which is all right with these sorts of games. for a childrens game it looks really entertaining as well as educational, in read and explore kind of way, the voice over kind just puts you into that atmosphere of harry potter.

Neonridr4207d ago

The only thing going against Wonderbook is the kids of today's generation have the attention span of a rock. Meaning unless they are blowing stuff up or killing things, will they really give the time of day to sit down and read a book, even if it has some simulation scenarios on the TV?

Don't get me wrong, I think Wonderbook is a novel idea, but they are going to need tons of content to get this thing going. Having JK Rowling doesn't hurt either..

Marquis_de_Sade4207d ago

Neonridr, it always amuses me to hear such remarks from older generations, especially when they are of a generation producing children so lacking when it comes to attention span. It seems in western society it's easier to blame the children than the poor parenting that influences them from an early age.

Knight_Crawler4207d ago (Edited 4207d ago )

As a father 3 kids I think Wonder Book is a great idea and might pick it up depending on the price.

People downplaying WB or Kinect have been on N4G way too long and need to realise that people on gaming website are a small majority compared to the casuals.

The only problem with wonder book is that Sony is the one making it which will make it an instant fail in the sales department.

If MS was the one releasing wonder book this think would probably beat Kinect as the fastest selling gadget of all time...Sony need to step up there marketing department and put WB in every TV commercial in America and every Subway as well.

WTF all these games look DOA to me to begin with...

doogiebear4207d ago (Edited 4207d ago )

I'd rather give those other games a try instead of another cod. They may be childish, but at least they do new, creative things in the gaming industry, unlike cod.

Baba19064207d ago

this is a joke for sure. he cant be serious about the list. =D

Eyeco4207d ago

Very obscure list of games, most of these wouldn't have sold well regardless of COD.

TopDudeMan4207d ago

Let's be fair... These games are being sent out to die no matter when they come out.

SilentNegotiator4207d ago

Wonderbook, kids cartoon game, racer, dancer, game that is doomed either way, 3DS rabbids, game directed at little girls....

Yeah, they sure are doomed because of COD.

ajax174207d ago

I know, I almost thought it was a joke. What an idiot he's comparing apple to AK's.

-Gespenst-4206d ago

I don't know about that moegooner88... I heard some kids, that couldn't have been older than 6, unsupervised, in a gamestop, arguing about Nuketown and other maps from Black Ops.

It's not a good thing that a game as effing stupid as COD has become so culturally ubiquitous. Big videogame corporations feeding us fetishistic representations of war... no thanks.

Kaneda4206d ago (Edited 4206d ago )

I am actually getting F1 Race Stars and MOH warfighters.. BLOPS is not on my list.. :)

The Wonderbook would be alright if Sony put some commercials on TV.

And could someone please explain to me how Ben 10 Omniverse wouldn't be sent out to die as the only thing released in the middle of a game drought?

@Relientk:
Still needs advertising.

Relientk774207d ago (Edited 4207d ago )

I think it's something really cool for kids

HammadTheBeast4207d ago (Edited 4207d ago )

If schools and daycares get a look at it, Sony could make some serious money.

Anon19744207d ago

Do game companies usually advertise products that aren't available for purchase?

rpd1234207d ago

What the fuck kind of question is that?

JellyJelly4207d ago

This whole Wonderbook thread is beyond retardation.

"The Wonderbook would be alright if Sony put some commercials on TV."

No. It never looked good to begin with so the commercials excuse won't pass.

"If schools and daycares get a look at it, Sony could make some serious money."

Because schools and daycare are very wealthy institutions? Don't you think they would spend that money on getting something more important than a gimmick book for kids?

"Do game companies usually advertise products that aren't available for purchase?"

Don't know if serious.

BitbyDeath4207d ago (Edited 4207d ago )

I'm tempted to get the BBC Dinosaurs one just for myself.

Unfortunately my daughter isn't old enough for this yet so i hope it continues into nextgen.

Relientk774207d ago (Edited 4207d ago )

I agree Godmars290, it does need to be heavily advertised. Kids could really like and want Wonderbook for Christmas

They forgot blops declassified...

baldulf4207d ago (Edited 4207d ago )

Oh god, I don't even know if IGN is trying to do a joke or they are that retarded.

No wonder the site is going bankrupt.

Tales RPG addict4207d ago

I agree they forget at IGN that there are other gamers out their who are part of a different audience other than COD only or FPS only Gamers.

Manor Lords devs say to expect a “fair discount” at launch

Tim Bender, Hooded Horse CEO, has brought to light the discussion of price. With AAA projects such as Star Wars: Outlaws stirring controversy with its peak $130 price tag, gamers have come to expect the worst from new releases. Manor Lords, on the other hand, looks like it’s going to be an entirely different story.
