New Super Mario Bros. U to have online multiplayer? "Online Interactions Not Rated..."

"Will New Super Mario Bros. U have some form of online multiplayer?

New Super Mario Bros. U will be releasing with the Wii U on November 18th, just over a month away now. Nintendo has not really detailed the Wii U's online features, and hasn't even really confirmed which Wii U launch games will feature any sort of online multiplayer, yet. We do know New Super Mario Bros. U and Nintendo Land, both Wii U launch titles, have Miiverse functionality; but Miiverse details have not been fully discussed by Nintendo either.

At the Wii U Preview on September 13th, Nintendo showed off two new game modes in New Super Mario Bros. U for the first time, those being the Boost Rush Mode and Challenge Mode. So, Nintendo had kept two new modes in New Super Mario Bros. U under wraps until the Wii U event, and nothing was said if either of those modes would have an online multiplayer function.

Why do I think New Super Mario Bros. U might have a form of online multiplayer, outside of just Miiverse communication? Brew yourself some coffee, and let's take a look!", writes CoffeeWithGames.

The obvious one is online co-op.

camel_toad4207d ago

I would like online co-op which we know it's not but I would still love a level editor which I know we will never get.

It would show how easy it is to make a good level in a 2-D Mario title and I know they don't want that realization coming to light with so many 2-D Mario titles being pumped out.

360ICE4207d ago

This "online co-op" technology you're speaking of is untested and too dangerous!

You're playing with fire, Nintendo.

omarzy4208d ago

That is probably for Miiverse functions.

B-Real2064208d ago

That's exactly what it's for. Nintendo already said there would not be on-line co-op. Sad but true. I still can't wait for this game. I play mario single player anyways so it doesn't bother me to much.

jjdoyle4208d ago

dids you sees the point?

omarzy4208d ago

Yeah, i didn't even do local co-op for NSMBW. Single player is the only possible way to play Mario games. Galaxy tried co-op, but all you did was collect those candy looking asteroids.

execution174207d ago

lame, no where near any of my friends to do local co-op :/

Benjamminkno4207d ago

Online co-op would be a huge deal. I can see the cruelty now. Big Mario fanatics that will run through the stage like they shouldn't even bother with co-op, if only to show others what they aren't. I personally would love to see someone try to pick me up and throw me off the ledge, this would literally never get tiring. Now all they need is an online co-op for Mario Galaxy 3 and SSB Rumble subspace emissary. What else could you want?

TheDivine4207d ago

Id like a 4 player PvP mode oldschool with the pow blocks and the blue platforms. Jumping on fools and pow'ing them would be epic fun especially with items like flowers (fireballs), raccoon tails, and stars. Could be really fun although im sure its just the online co-op. Id love mp though.

Gr814207d ago

How dope would that be?

Icertainly hope it does have online co-op/competitive play. Would boost its value tenfold.

Ron_Danger4207d ago

I'll just throw this idea into the mix: it could just be for online leaderboards. Any online game that has online leaderboards has to say that since it is technically an online function. The latest I've played with it was Tokyo Jungle. You actually have to agree to an online terms of service to use the leaderboards.

Goodbye New Mario, I Won't Miss You

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the first Mario 2D game in almost two decades without the New Super Mario art style, and it looks all the better for it

Am I missing something? It looks exactly the same, just higher resolution… Is this sarcasm?

specialguest302d ago

Yes, you're not observant if you think it looks exactly the same. It immediately appeared different to me from the start. Mario's 3D model will always be the same, so not much difference there. However, the animation they've given the Super Mario Wonder makes it look more like a CGI Mario animation where as the New Mario Bros game looks more like typical video game animation movements

__SteakDeck__302d ago

@specialguest Yeah those animations are insane.

FinalFantasyFanatic302d ago

You really didn't notice the difference? It's really obvious, I was surprised when I first saw the trailer.

Asplundh302d ago

"Am I missing something?"

Your glasses maybe?

Juancho51302d ago

This Mario game looks great, getting a switch for this and Mario RPG. CANT WAIT, TITS JACKED.

Profchaos302d ago

Yeah I liked how much more emotion could be conveyed through the new style at first glance I didn't see much difference but then rewatching the trailer I'm seeing more and more animations that remind me of the Mario artwork from the manual of smb3

Outlawzz302d ago

I hated the new super Mario bros Style. This new one seems a lot more expressive and less generic. I hope it's a good game

shinoff2183302d ago

I prefer the 2d Mario's. Me and my girl have played them all together and mario galaxy , Mario odyssey. The 2nd player option is extremely eh
