HoG writes: When a new generation of consoles arrives on the market we need that one game that shows us exactly what the new systems are capable off. With the Playstation 3 and the X-Box 360 that game was Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Five years later another two games in the MW series and two unrelated Call of Duty games have been released. Public attitude towards the series has cooled and sales have dipped but it’s still one of the most significant game series of all time. Although the multiplayer aspect is what kept people playing over the long term the single player campaign has done just as much to influence the industry.
In this retrospective we’ll be turning our gaze to the campaign mode of the series, as enough has been said about the multiplayer and this, at times, can overshadow the other excellent aspect of the game.
MW 2019 is five years old at this point and on previous gen hardware, but it is still the best looking Call of Duty game to date.
MW was an excellent videogame. They messed up Spec Ops big time, but aside from this it was a huge step in the right direction initially. Most notably, at launch it seemed to come from a very cohesive creative vision that was felt across gameplay, to story to art style/visual direction. It was also very notably written by prominent ex-Naughty Dog guys that quit almost immediately before release.
That COMPLETELY dissolved through post-launch content and the full pivot to a "cross-mode" narrative that completely obliterated the cohesion in overall story direction. Warzone then "became" the new face of Call of Duty and the franchise completely removed itself from anything remotely creatively "good". It is a pure money machine, so I kinda get why they're doing it....but I personally completely lost interest.
I would love to see Infinity Ward move off CoD and get to make their own product with full control. They clearly have some massive talent in their ranks but it's perverted by Activision's corporate interests.
Call Of Duty is back with its yearly instalment, but is Modern Warfare 3 breaking new ground, or just a lazy cash grab? The answer may not surprise you in today's review from JDR.
The original Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 games have been drawing players back in
I really hope we get other activision games on GP soon. My dream would be Scarface but I know the license probably expired
None of those games had dedicated servers on console in the first place? Were always player hosted. Did something change?
For me i really loved the 1st, i like the 2nd (and tbh i never expected it to live up to 1, but i enjoyed it regardless) and 3 reeked of lazyness.
love the storyline very fun and intoxicating just look at captain price strong, tall and handsome......... um... on a side note YA GIRLS I LOVE THEM!!!!!!
"Given the price it goes for these days you’d be foolish to pass it up"
I guess whoever wrote this article do not play those games anymore and he has no clue support abandoned 'em long time ago, only thing they offer now is nothing more than a total hack-fest including World at War from Treyarch
The original Infinity Ward were great developers. MW1 was one of the best games this gen and MW2 could have been great if they fixed the multiplayer balance issues. I believe if the whole IW and Activision drama did not happen MW2 would have been fixed but who knows. The current IW is just a shadow of its former self with most of the core team gone and it shows in MW3, which is by far the most forgettable of Call of Duty games
