Dishonored’s Co-Creator Responds To My Few Complaints About The Game

Kotaku - Okay, so Dishonored is excellent. That won't stop me from nitpicking and critiquing some of the things I didn't like about the new stealth-action game.

And if I'm gonna complain about Dishonored, I might as well complain to Harvey Smith, the guy who co-designed it.
While talking to Smith on the phone last week, I decided to bring up some of the little things that bugged me about the game. He dodged nothing, and gave me some great responses.

Here are a few of them.

no southpaw. i mean really, come on arcane? amateur oversight. these games need to come with warning labels so people like me don't waste their money on an unplayable game

Dishonored unplayable? Seriously? It's fantastic!

Nimblest-Assassin4212d ago

What are you playing it on?

PC/PS3/360?

Youtube?

Interesting read. I really like these articles that explain the thought process behind the games design. Kinda like a directors commentary...

Some of the worst complaints you can make about the game. don't get me wrong i like the game, but there are bigger issues like guards detect you even you 100% sure you are behind cover.

kingdavid4212d ago

Yep or guards notice a body that youve hidden behind a barricade.

Yeah AI, can be a right mix. I've had one walk past me hidded behind a lampshade but notice a damn corpse on a window ledge with x-ray vision.

But despite this the game does kick ass. I wish AI was a little bit more weary of you, and a little less weary of corpses I've hidden ontop of ventilation shafts 6ft above their head though. The leaning cover isn't brilliantly established that's why it's so easy to make the mistake of getting noticed too. There should have been a personal indicator showing how visible you are on your own hud - not above their head. At least so you know that you're not leaning your entire body out - that's the sort of kinetic feedback you lack in a video game that's there in real life so a substitute would be good.

Also hagfish suck balls.

I seriously find nothing wrong with the game, it's amazing and I love it. Kudos to Arcane and Bethesda :)

The Magic of 'Dishonored’s' Blink

It’s a shame, really, that so few games have “borrowed” Dishonored’s Blink – in the right hands, such a power could be game-changing.

It felt kinda cheap to me… both in terms as a tactic, and game design

Abnor_Mal430d ago (Edited 430d ago )

There was a small game called Aragami that “borrowed” the blink, that was a good game.

Unfortunately I heard the sequel wasn’t good so I stayed away from trying it out.

sairenfox2099429d ago

The sequel changed some of the mechanics from the first game but it was still a very polished and enjoyable experience. You should definitely give it a shot sometime. The game's currently on sale on Steam

Abnor_Mal429d ago

Okay thanks for the heads up, will look out for it being on sale one day.

I really did like the first and played it back to back as soon as I finished the first play through.
