How Nintendo is Creating Distinction Between the Wii and the Wii U

In the past, Nintendo has had trouble making their consoles unique, especially because the consoles share similar names and looks to the previous generation. One way Nintendo is trying to combat this problem with the Wii U is by the using something as simple as the console position.

This hole Wii Wii U supposed confusion thing is just stupid.

Xbox -> Xbox360

PlayStation -> PlayStation 2 -> PlayStation 3

Wii -> Wii U

How hard could it possibly be to understand; They clearly stated its a new console when they announce it. I saw some supposed video game sites such as G4 ( first offender off the top of my head) pretending they did not know it was a new console when it was announced just to troll and create confusion.

ZoyosJD4212d ago

The point is that the average consumer base for Nintendo doesn't know. In fact Some people I know initially thought it was just a new controller, particularly after the first E3 showing.

PopRocks3594212d ago

Doesn't that sort of thing happen all the time though? I knew people six years ago who thought the 360 was just another Xbox with a new shape, and Xbox 'slim' if you will.

If a person is shown a Wii U and they simply ask the question "What is it?", they will be told "it's a new Nintendo console."

Consumers are not that stupid. Some may be uninformed, but not stupid.

ZoyosJD4212d ago

@poprocks
It may be common (part of my inital point anyways), but consumers should at least know it's a new console.

I have shown people the console and had them say hey "I've got one of those Wii things."

Seeing games that only look like Nintendoland or something else that is played on other game systems doesn't help differentiate itself.

The controller does, but then again it could be just a new controller.

Xbox(core gaming) ) -> Xbox360(core gaming at first)
PlayStation(hardcore) -> PlayStation 2(core gaming) -> PlayStation 3(core gaming)
Wii(casual) -> Wii U(core gaming ?)

Do you really want wiiU to be like wii? Really?

linkratos4212d ago

Claiming PS1 was for core gaming is very revisionist history. And it's not about core vs casual, it's about brand recognition. Wii has huge consumer mindshare right now.

ninjabake4212d ago

Cut it out with that. You can play videogames of all genres and styles across all platforms. "Hardcore gaming" is a term a bunch of entitled nerds came up with and has no true definition. If you play videogames your a gamer. I don't care how much or how little you play them or what system/computer you play it on.

Venoxn4g4212d ago

you are talking nonsence.. PS1 & PS2 had games for both, casuals and core.. its only this gen, when people started this pointless sorting.. and yes, I want WII U a lot, because I enjoy good Core and some casual games too

1upgamer994212d ago

Uhhh, LOL this is a stupid article. In the past consoles "looked similar" really? Yeah I can see how I would confuse a NES From a N64, Or perhaps the Gamecube for a Super Nes. This guy Does say "looked" similar. Now as for Wii and Wii U they do look very similar, but that is the first time I have seen Nintendo do that in 22 years give or take.

IWentBrokeForGaming4212d ago

if it weren't for the controller and seeing the games running on it... I wouldn't have done a double take to notice it weren't just a Wii!

hard joe4212d ago

adding tablet with buttons controller and step up to hd?

josephayal4212d ago

Same console, same games with better graphics

EKWB reportedly plagued with financial disarray many gaming pc's left without parts

EK Cooling allegedly has slipped itself into a hot soup of seemingly endless financial woes, where it has not paid its staff, suppliers, and contractors for many months as the company is facing liquidity problems and a surplus of inventory left unsold, stuck in the warehouse for a more extended period. Gamers Nexus investigated these claims made by former and current personnel, where he found trails of unpaid bills lasting as long as three to four months and unpaid raises that accumulated for almost a year.

EK Water Blocks has two entities—a Slovenian-based headquarters and a US-based subsidiary, EK Cooling Solutions. Steve narrated the series of events in detail, stating that the company was reportedly irresponsible and negligent regarding payment. Consequently, partners and employees are forced to share the burden of alleged mismanagement. It all begins with its extensive range of products, leading to a surplus of goods. EK has over 230 water blocks, 40 liquid cooling kits, 85 reservoirs, 40 pumps, 73 radiators, and 212 miscellaneous accessories.

Yes this is not about video games directly but indirectly this will impact the pc gaming/workstation space hard.

This company is massive one of two in the water cool space so if it goes poof then thousands out there have no spare parts or half built computers.

SO yeah i know not about a video game but think of it as amd leaving the pc space but this is ekwb that could be leaving water cooling in the pc space

Jayz2cents a supporter of there products also has issues

Make your next GPU upgrade AMD as these latest-gen Radeon cards receive a special promotion

AMD has long been the best value option if you're looking for a new GPU. Now even their latest Radeon RX 7000 series is getting cheaper.

Father__Merrin1d 12h ago

Best for the money is the Arc cards

just_looken1d 11h ago

In the past yes but last gen amd has gotten cheaper and there new cards are on the horizon making 6k even cheaper.

The arc cards are no longer made by intel but asus/asrock has some the next line battlemage is coming out prices tbd.

Do to the longer software development its always best to go amd over intel if its not to much more money even though intel is a strong gpu i own 2/4 card versions.

Wii U games that still haven't been ported to Switch

The Nintendo Switch is potentially nearing its lifespan, and several Wii U games haven't found their way over as ports yet.

I think it's better to leave games like AC: Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash forgotten on the Wii U. Best case, they are mediocre games; worse case, they are very bad. It was a dark time for the Wii U, and the first only exists to sell Amiibo cards, whereas the second was put together in a couple of months with a shoestring budget, and it shows.

The rest of the list does have some really cool games, though. I would love to see a remake of Star Fox Zero with decent controls, and Xenoblade X doesn't require that much modification to work.

How would XCX work without dual screens functionality?

Cacabunga2d ago

Same as Paper Mario color splash. One of the best wiiu games and getting even better with dual screen. Same reason why i prefer Splatoon 1

Profchaos2d ago

This article leaves out Nintendo's most controversial game to date devils Third.
I personally found the cover system really fun in that one compared to at the time most fps games completely lacking one.

Stevonidas2d ago

Devil's Third is HIGHLY underrated.

repsahj2d ago

They should remake Starfox to the switch 2. Very beautiful game during gamecube days.

Chocoburger2d ago

Kirby is always ignored or forgotten by people, so good to see it mentioned here.
Play Kirby Canvas Curse on DS, and then play Rainbow Curse on Wii U, they're really fun and unique 'platformers' without any actual jumping.
