What a bunch of tools.

Having a glossy exterior finish as one of the main cons really?

I wonder if they have that as a con for all major cell phones as well.

mrbojingles4216d ago

While I may disagree with them, it's just their opinion. Doesn't make them a "tool".

The community in that website worships Apple, generally likes Microsoft and hates Sony with a passion. Just check the comments for any review, preview or hands-on of a Sony product.

The author of the review is just trying to please the crowds.

I think they were trolling as their cons were trivial:

Cons:
More expensive than previous model
Top-loading disc tray
Glossy exterior attracts dust, fingerprints

I marked them (engadget) down.

@mrbonjingles

What they did is the definition of a tool. That was fast 2 disagrees for both me and original poster, and 2 agrees for mrjingles, all within same time? Engadget employees, anti Sony trolls?

jwk944215d ago

all of those cons are logical

kB04215d ago

@jwk94

Logical is the wrong word...considering that gloassy is a nice finish if maintained properly, top loading tray also has advantages such as if god forbid the system dies you can still get the disk out, unlike the slot loaders, and it's still better than a tray which creates a very unstable platform feel.

Those aren't logical cons, they are just self-opinion cons, they reflect nothing more than personal problems.

As for the price, I think they were just looking for a way to add more cons, I can't look at it any other way.

Only 20$ more expensive, and you get a month free plus, more than twice the space, Uncharted 3 GOTY and Dust 514 game...I mean you can't possibly not think any of the is not worth 20$ extra....

I mean you could easily sell all the extras in there for at least that 20$ your spending more.... LOL

Oh well.

JellyJelly4215d ago

"At $270 -- a full $20 more than the already existing 120GB model, albeit with the addition of a year-old game and $30 in virtual money for a free-to-play shooter that isn't available yet -- the PlayStation 3 redesign is hard to suggest. Barring the price, the generally cheap feel of the hardware and sheer unattractiveness galvanize our position: you're better off picking up the older, less expensive, more attractive (and functionally identical) PS3 Slim."

Perfectly good reasons. The only tools in this are Sony for releasing a third version of their console that is worse than their second (Slim).

iamnsuperman4215d ago

I am not sure why it is hard for people to comprehend why this was released. It was made to make the PS3 cheaper to mamufacter. Now I would have liked to see a price drop, however, as we move to the next generation Sony are maximising profits. I feel this is a confirmation the PS4 will be unvieled soon. As the PS3 is still going to be supported when the PS4 is released it needs to be cheaper to mamufacter

Knushwood Butt4215d ago

Albeit with an HDD that has twice the capacity.

Why omit that?

kB04215d ago

Let's not forget the power consumption is about 60 watts less?

and about half that of the fats?

Hmmmmmmmmm....yeah I wonder why they do it? I sure as hell like my electricity money in my pocket don't you?

160GB PS3 is not linux compatible lol

WiiLovePS3604215d ago (Edited 4215d ago )

If I remember correctly it actually would have been at some stage, had you not updated the firmware to the revision that removed the OtherOS feature.

The 160gb "fat" PS3 was released in October/November of 2008, whereas the firmware revision that removed OtherOS (3.20) was not released until April 2010 - meaning that it very much was Linux compatible to begin with (and still would be if you didn't update its firmware).

Remember, there was a "fat" 160gb PS3 long before there was a "slim" 160gb PS3.

At one point yes but not now, i do not see why it should be listed as being compatible when it is currently not.

WiiLovePS3604215d ago

Technically it still is though, as if you bought one but never updated it you could still be running the OtherOS on it.

The "slim" and "super slim" have no way whatsoever of running OtherOS.

Now I agree with you that listing it is a bit of a stretch as it would mean you haven't been able to play many games over the last 2 years, but it IS technically true that it is OtherOS compatible.

BitbyDeath4215d ago

True good point i suppose

danthebios4215d ago

Credit is due to Sony for making a slimmer ps3(which we never knew would be possible).Im waiting for the so caled 12gb ps3.They say it would be cheaper. If its cheap then my guess is everyone will have a chance to own a ps3.

DivineAssault 4215d ago (Edited 4215d ago )

i really want this new model.. I like its size & simplicity.. I just wish the US would get the 16GB model so i can just upgrade it myself.. Buying another $300 console is pointless if im going to discard the 250GB HDD it comes with.. 750GB from amazon & a 16GBflash memory PS3 super slim model would be a nice treat but doesnt look like thats happening this year.. Oh well, i dont need it cuz i have the mid & phat already.. i just like new system models & my living room needs the best of the best sitting there.. ill move the phat into my bedroom & sell the mid version or give it to a relative..

Im curious to see what ppl choose this holiday season.. i know the wii u will sell out cuz of their sales tactics putting out limited quantities but can this slim attract more customers? it has so many great games out & incoming.. not to mention its features & psn.. we will see i guess.. i want nintendo to succeed in attracting the core audience but with all ports & very few AAA new IPs, its going to be tough to convince ppl who arent fans..

karlowma4215d ago

It does look cheap imo, but I guess that's kind of the point.

My 160GB beast of a Netflix player is still going strong.

I never got around to mass effect - I’m skeptical that it would hold up if I were to try it now

Furesis12h ago

I would say it does. The combat is a bit shit for todays standards but everything else is great.
