XCOM: Enemy Unknown Review | GameTrailers

GameTrailers: "XCOM: Enemy Unknown charges you with what amounts to a challenging dream job. Because you’re put in direct control of how the game progresses, you’ll experience the bracing feeling of being in charge. The game performs and controls almost equally well on consoles as it does on a PC, and a range of difficulty levels makes the game reasonably accessible regardless of your mettle, adjusting the way aliens engage on the battlefield you in addition to tweaking costs and damage values. It all amounts to a great victory. XCOM makes a complicated design feel smoother and more elegant without losing the feel and nuance of the original work."

good looking game.. It has guns & aliens yet this actually requires thought.. This will make a good addition to my PS3 collection.. I would go PC on this but i dont like sitting at my desk playing games.. rather be on the couch w junk food

For some reason, up until just a couple of days ago I thought this game was a FPS...because, you know, like DivineAssault said: aliens and guns almost always = FPS nowadays.

This looks excellent, though. It's good to see Firaxis spreading it's wings a bit.

There was an fps version that was in development, it is now believed to be a third person shooter that will be download only (note: not the same developers as this).

Hah, I knew I remembered a trailer for that. Bubble for helpfulness.

I thought the IGN review was a tad humorous. One of the cons they stated was that it had a steep learning curve in the strategic game.....hmmm.... Isn't that the point of a strategy game? :)

XCOM: Enemy Unknown - A Welcome Rebirth

XCOM: Enemy Unknown rebooted the series back in 2012, and has since inspired numerous new strategy game series to be born.

If someone gets into this I'd recommend getting the enemy within version. It's got all the dlc included so it's the better version. Wish the author would've atleast mentioned it. I didn't see it.

Fantastic game though. Xcom 2 is top notch also. I've spent countless hours in these games.

Excellent game.

What other games were inspired by this game?

Gears Of War Tactics, Phoenix Point. Many others.

Phoenix point if I remember was created by the original xcom developer or something to that affect. I did try gears tactics some months ago and I just couldn't get into it. It's probably just me

It was, but it was really closer to the newer XCOM than the older ones. Gears Tactics was okay but was hard to get into knowing there probably wont be a sequel.

Ten Best Tactical Mobile Games

There are few things more gratifying in gaming than skillfully turning the tide of a conflict. And few genres provide as many opportunities to abruptly reverse the odds via skill and forethought as tactical strategy. To be sure, we are more often than not talking about turn-based tactical mobile games, specifically titles in line with the iconic landmark series (XCOM and Jagged Alliance) that made the genre a genre.
