Destructoid - New PS3 model unboxing and impressions

Destructoid - Here's a good look at the new PS3 model that was announced at Tokyo Game Show a few weeks back. We've unboxed a fresh 250GB unit for you in the video above, and we have our full impressions of it below.

This slimmer-than-slim form makes even the previous model look a bit big, but when compared to the original launch unit it seems really dinky. Sony says it's 25 percent smaller and 20 percent lighter than the current model, so it's roughly half as big as the launch unit.

As for build quality, this thing is plastic throughout. It seems a bit thin in places, especially on its top, where the new sliding disc door is. That said, as long as you don't accidentally kick it like a soccer ball or drop your Xbox 360 on its top, it seems durable enough to last.

Unless there's something wrong with the PS3 you already own; you don't need to buy this.

There's nothing wrong with my current kit, but I've still pre-ordered the limited edition Yakuza 5 model (Japan).

i'm running low on hdd space, so my 120 gb slim is being sold to a friend of mime for 180 bucks at the end of the month and i'll be getting new 500 gb model with ac 3. then sell ac3 for about 50 bucks and pow, i got new system with lots of space and under warranty for only 69.99, not too bad imo.

you could just buy a hard drive...

cyberninja4216d ago

I know, but i'd rather spend 70 bucks and get a new console with warranty than just spending same amount of money just to put hdd in my 3 year old ps3. And people who disagreed with me can't do simple math or just jelous fanboys.

That thing is truly hideous.

How does Microsoft make the slim X360 more stylish than PS3? Is Sony shopping PS3 parts from supplier that charges premium for the parts?

Or previous PS3 models were that expensive to make that Sony has to go cheaper than Microsoft in making the latest PS3 design. Time will tell. One thing Sony is clever is often release new PS3 model around Fall season because the weather gets cooler until the following summer next year. By then, any hot electronics stay cool for almost a year. It will be interesting to see PS3 Model 4000 stability by end of next year.

For now, lets see what other software features Sony removed.

I actually kind of like it, reminds me of the old days but the only way ill buy it is if my first day phat dies on me. I hope it never does so many good memories, never tought it would get that small crazy technology nowadays.

Still have my ps3 copies. Bought it at launch and another one when I found it cheap and in perfect condition about 10 years ago. I wouldn’t buy it on Switch but if they made a PS5 version I would. I still have one of my PS3 Fats hooked up so good to go either way.

Id play it again on the switch. I wished my 360 version was bc but this is still a good way to play.

Fallout 3's Reveal Led To Death Threats And Bethesda's First Security Guard

The artist behind Fallout 4’s Deathclaw reveals just how bad things got back when Bethesda took over the series

anast19h ago

People are stupid I get it. No one should feel unsafe,

But I think they need to talk about why they cut so many corners during the development process and why none of their games ever look current. And why they think all of this is okay while they charge full price.

LucasRuinedChildhood18h ago

As much as Bethesda deserve criticism, that's not really relevant to the reveal of Fallout 3 in 2007.

The default angle Kotaku always go for is to highlight the worst in gaming.

I would’ve focused on the creative.
