Describes how Guild Wars 2 pushes cooperative gaming and RPG questing forward, while Borderlands 2 stubbornly sticks to its old fashioned roots.

What a lame comparison. One is an MMORPG, the other is a FPSRPG with co-op if you want it.

I guess, thosegeeks DON'T know.

LightofDarkness4215d ago (Edited 4215d ago )

I suppose, but BL2 certainly does adopt the MMO style of questing and looting pretty much verbatim, and certainly makes use of the "holy trinity" party dynamic (Tank, Healer, DPS), so there's plenty to compare in these core design paradigms.

Obviously, some things can't be compared, like World vs. World and World Events. But don't be surprised if the next Borderlands, among myriad other multiplayer games (MMO, F2P, Co-op etc.), start adopting a few of the rather good ideas presented in GW2. Unique loot drops is definitely something that I wish BL2 had.

BlackKnight4215d ago

Questing and looting is part of the RPG genre, not MMO. Skyrim has questing and looting, Fable has questing and looting. MMO literally just means massively multiplayer online, meaning a HUGE amount of people playing online.

It would be better to compare BL2 to something like planetside or some other FPSMMO, even then it is not a good comparison.

They may be different genres, but they still have features that are relevant to each other. The lines between genres are constantly blurred.

TheRealSpy4215d ago

I'm getting pretty sick of very small-minded people constanting spouting the inane idea that 2 games can't be compared simply because they aren't in the exact same genre.

thorstein4215d ago (Edited 4215d ago )

Yeah, I guess you're right. Maybe thosegeeksyouknow should compare Assassin's Creed III to Soundshapes. That sounds like a great idea/s

antz11044214d ago

So you can seriously compare Uncharted 2 to Forza 4 without laughing?

Kaos_Vll4214d ago

How can you compare apple to oranges? who in their right mind does something like that?

Riding a bike is the same as driving a car?

Watching a movie is the same as flipping thru a picture book?

And you have the nerve to call someone small-minded.

How do you compare super mario bros to bf3?

please compare the two for me with one of those bubbles, hell anyone who agrees with you explain that to me...

TheRealSpy4214d ago

yeah, when you name extreme differences, you either know you're being extreme for the sake of making an idiotic point, or you are, in fact, an idiot.

those games aren't completley dissimilar. they have similarities. social aspects, rpg elements, gear, increasing difficulty, etc..

and even if two games are VERY Different, you can still draw comparisons. replay value, multiplayer, fun-factor.

so get of your high horses. you're just being closed-minded.

boyzilla4214d ago (Edited 4214d ago )

@Kaos_VII
"How can you compare apple to oranges?"

They're both fruits, weigh roughly the same weight, are spherical, and they both come from trees.

"Riding a bike is the same as driving a car?"

Both are used on the road, are a mode of transportation, have wheels, and for the most part need someone to operate them. Not technically the "same" but this is comparing, not making an exact congruent.

"Watching a movie is the same as flipping thru a picture book?"

Movies and books are used as a form of entertainment, both utilize the eyes. Once again, not the same, but we're only comparing here.

How do you compare super mario bros to bf3?

Both are video games, you can jump, kill enemies, there are seperate maps as you progress/regress throughout the game. Oh yeah they're both multiplayer as well!

Who are you calling small-minded? :O
Almost anything can be compared in some form or another, as well as contrasted.
It seems like this is a matter of convergent/divergent thinking... oh how the educational system failed you, n4g... :(

rytlok4215d ago

yea that really is a dumb comparison

Grap4215d ago

different genre. but i have to admit GW2 really make my copy of Broderlands 2 in Dust.

RaptorGTA4215d ago

Ive taken a break from GW2 and been playing Borderlands 2. Both are just awesome games.

Waddy1014215d ago

This article is ridiculous, if you actually read the article it is poorly written and tries to make comparisons between two different genres just because the writer doesn't like something.

Borderlands 4 And Tiny Tina's Wonderlands 2 Leaked

Multiple future Gearbox Software projects, including Borderlands 4 and Tiny Tina's Wonderlands 2 have been spotted.

Kaii150d ago

Hopefully, they fired the entire writing team after B3 cause that dialogue was truly atrocious.

jeromeface149d ago

doubtful... this is gearbox we're talking about.. Randy thinks everything the studio does is gold because he has a bad concept of reality

DrDoomer149d ago

FFS make something else. If you can't make anything new, at least bring back Brothers In Arms or something.

-Foxtrot149d ago

I know it will never happen (for obvious story reasons that's happened) but I wish we could play the original Vault hunters again with new abilities you could choose to develop in a skill branch. Never really felt I could get behind most of them after the first game, especially move wise. Lilith's phase walk will always be the best to me.

Speaking of Lilith, I'm kind of wondering how they'll get around the whole Siren thing since they wrote themselves into a corner saying there's "only 6 Sirens in the entire universe" and now thanks to Borderlines 3 they apparently pass on their abilities meaning once we see each of 6 powers available that's it, no new brand new ones. I don't know why they don't just say there's more than 6 since all of them in the ENTIRE Universe just conveniently coming to Pandora is a bit strange.

BrainSyphoned149d ago

That's super easy to get around. Each person that has the skill could have their own personal spin on it. There could be a new power that morphs them into something else. One of the weapon manufacturers could experiment on 5 of the Sirens and the 6th would have to fight a horde of siren powered bad guys to rescue the others. Fiction has been there and done that with power more complex or simple thousands of times before.

As for revisting the first game? That would be totally unlike the gaming industry to reboot a series...
