What Happens When Miyamoto Dies?

The fact is that we, as older gamers (and by that, I mean anyone that actually remembers getting an Atari 2600 back in the 70s) have been privileged to see our hobby grow up with us. But this also means that those people who have taken gaming from its infancy to its more mature state today aren’t getting any younger. They’re getting older. And some day they’re going to retire, or simply die of old age

The same as while he's alive, Jobs died and apple continued on. The legacy he's created has influenced so many people that they'll work like him if not better than him in the future, I'm sure he's taught many people who will carry the torch after him.

Wait a minute, what a stupid article!

Hatsune-Miku4223d ago (Edited 4223d ago )

Life will go on. His body of work isn't impressive because he's been doing the same game for over 30years with the same formula.

Every game he touches turns to gold? Wii music was golden.

Listen, miyamoto deserves recognition for certain things he's done years ago but he hasn't done anything worth praising since I've been born. He's done a few games where he rinsed and repeated the same formula for years. Playing the new Mario titles and Zelda titles now are like playing dlc for games from the 90s. People love to flame devs for repetitiveness but this matey is the king of repetitiveness

Neonridr4223d ago

are you an idiot? No person in the game industry has sold more video games than Miyamoto. Every game he touches turns to gold and are all million unit sellers. I'm sorry Mario Galaxy was exactly the same as the first Super Mario Brothers? Do explain...

NOBODY has a resume as impressive as him. Fact.

ronin4life4223d ago (Edited 4223d ago )

Kind of like your comment history on this site.

Blam!!

@neon
Having an actual conversation with hatsune using truth and logic is next to impossible.

I wonder if he/she is just a satirical account sometimes...

krazykombatant4223d ago

Oh man you're in for a world of hurt, next time just don't comment kid. Please save us the the pain of dealing with your stupidity

dark-hollow4223d ago

Play mario bros. On nes.
Then super mario world on snes.
Then mario 64 on n64.
Then mario sunshine on gamecube.
Then mario galaxy on wii.

Then I DARE YOU to say they are just rehashes.
"bu bu but itz teh same formulah!!!"

Well duh! Because its a sequel! Look at god of war series, same formula. the mgs series, same formula. So on and so forth.

eagle214223d ago (Edited 4223d ago )

Sometimes Miku, learn just to STFU. Not only does Miyamoto involve himself with most of the productions at Nintendo, he is very influential on the design of the hardware and it's innovations. You can call rehash till you die, Miyamoto is a living legend! Oh and any game developer would tell you how much they think of his work when designing their games. You and your agrees are simply out of your collective minds.

wishingW3L4223d ago (Edited 4223d ago )

you guys sound like a bunch of fanboys but what Miku said holds some true. Right now Miyamoto is just a producer and in the past 10-15 years he has only directed or designed maybe two games or less.

Miyamoto hasn't been deeply involved in the development of any game since the days of the Nes with Mario Bros 3.

linkratos4223d ago (Edited 4223d ago )

Honestly you are so fucking stupid

And I don't care if this is my last comment on this hell hole of a site

Enjoy your trolling

P.S. We're you born after Mario 64 came out? You would have to because that was among the most mindblowing games ever. Ocarina of Time? Majora's Mask?
It all makes sense now. Your comments match those of a 14 year old.

gaffyh4223d ago

While I do think that Miku needs to STFU, some of you guys are really living in the past. Saying something like, "dude made Mario 64" is not a good argument, because he could be making complete and utter shite right now. Perfect example is Rare, and nobody says Rare is awesome, they say Rare WAS awesome because of games like Perfect Dark and Banjo.

Rockoman164223d ago

He's been doing more than you so shut up!!, you tasteless troll, go back to your lame bridge!!

neogeo4223d ago (Edited 4223d ago )

I have been on this site starting in 2006 and I honestly must hand it to you. Haysune's just won Dumbest troll comment of the decade. I'm sad because I simply can't imagine anyone on earth able to top the diarrhea that just spewed out your pie hole. It's not worthy of a reply by anyone.

@Hatsune

you forgot to add the "/sarcasm" tag.

darthv724223d ago

would someone come up with such an article? Are there hidden signs we are missing here?

'quick call to nintendo -
"Hey double up the security around Miyamoto-san"
"what?"
"no i'm not plotting anything"
"I read on a gaming site about what would happen if he died:

"yeah it was N4g"
'click'

pixelsword4223d ago

They will probably have some sort of memorial or something.

/article.

TheFirstClassic4223d ago

Since you've been born? How old are you? Ever heard of pikmin? Two of the best games I've ever played, and if you're old enough, you better believe mario 64 and oot are deserving of praise.

Awards and recognition

The name of the main character of the PC game Daikatana, Hiro Miyamoto, is a homage to Miyamoto.[89] The character Gary Oak from the Pokémon anime series is named Shigeru in Japan and is the rival of Ash Ketchum (called Satoshi in Japan). Pokémon creator Satoshi Tajiri was mentored by Miyamoto.

In 1998, Miyamoto was honored as the first person inducted into the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences' Hall of Fame.[90] In 2006, Miyamoto was made a Chevalier (knight) of the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Minister of Culture Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres.

On November 28, 2006, Miyamoto was featured in TIME Asia's "60 Years of Asian Heroes," alongside Hayao Miyazaki, Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Bruce Lee and the Dalai Lama.[92] He was later chosen as one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People of the Year in both 2007[93] and also in 2008, in which he topped the list with a total vote of 1,766,424.

At the Game Developers Choice Awards, on March 7, 2007, Miyamoto received the Lifetime Achievement Award "for a career that spans the creation of Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda to the company's recent revolutionary systems, Nintendo DS and Wii."[95]

Both GameTrailers and IGN placed Miyamoto first on their lists for the "Top Ten Game Creators" and the "Top 100 Game Creators of All Time" respectively.

In a survey of game developers by industry publication Develop, 30% of the developers chose Miyamoto as their "Ultimate Development Hero".[98] Miyamoto has been interviewed by companies and organizations such as CNN's Talk Asia.[99] He was made a Fellow of BAFTA at the British Academy Video Games Awards on March 19, 2010.

In 2012, Miyamoto was also the first interactive creator to be awarded the highest recognition in the Spanish-speaking world, the Prince of Asturias Award, in the category of Communications and Humanities.

What other game developers have achieved this?

AWBrawler4223d ago

What the firx is up with Miku's hatred against all things nintendo. Do I have to post my long list of Miyamoto games again? The man is a Legend plain and simple! If you can't respect that, you're a bigger disgrace to gaming than Leisure Suit Larry

Leviathan4222d ago

You all deserve kidMario on your idiotphones. I hope I offended all of you. You're all bunch of n4g 7th grade trolls who never even had an N.E.S.

kane_13714222d ago (Edited 4222d ago )

you guys really should chillax, Hatsune has the right to express her/his opinion.

People say N4G is a Sony Defense Frontline feast, they should come and check you guys out!

Don't you have a shame, to bash a person like this, because he or she expressed her opinion about a person that you guys fap to the dream of meeting him?

GROW UP!

Miyamoto is without a doubt a key factor in the world of video games, he was one of the guys that saved the gaming, He created some great games in their time.

But even I was having this argument yesterday, that many of this games that he released under the name of Kirby and Mario could have been new ips.
maybe then people would feel less like everything is just Mario in the Nintendo, which is true, many feel so.
But that doesn't mean that Mario is a bad game, or Miyamoto is anything less than an important man in the business.

Fact is, he is afraid to give out new ips, that's cool, we know it.
And to say he is using the same formula cuz they are sequels is the height of stupidness, a Developer MUST, and I mean MUST change his style, and unfortunately for Hatsune that is exactly what he did.

he is just as i pointed out afraid of new ips, he keeps creating new games and ideas inside the old shell of Mario and other guys.

fr0sty4222d ago

I'm not sure which is worse, the post accusing shiggy of not putting anything good out lately or the fanboys foaming at the mouth over it. Some of the criticism is deserved, as shiggy is not only the king of sequels, but also king of genre whoring. I think a porn game is about the only genre Mario has not appeared in. That aside, Miyamoto is responsible for a good chunk of the good memories I have from childhood, and while I don't play his games anymore, I still appreciate him for that. Shiggy isn't a god, he isn't perfect, but he's damn close. Funny how a dude that doesn't even play video games anymore has sold more games than anyone else on the planet.

ronin4life4223d ago (Edited 4223d ago )

@Wishing

Miyamoto playtests all games in is franchises and relays important information, criticism and advice to the teams involved. What he says goes, regardless of who is in charge of the project. He also plays a pretty heavy role in hardware.

He was, is and always will have a heavy hand and influence in the industry. No one who thinks themselves knowledgeable of this industry or its history could dispute this.

kane_13714222d ago

He has a heavy hand and influence in the Nintendo side, not the whole industry.
You don't expect microsoft and Sony do as he says or EA and I don't know, Activision?

Kran4223d ago

though some do say that after Jobs died, things just went downhill for Apple... but in a sense, Apple was always the same.

Knight_Crawler4223d ago

Jobs dies and Apple is sh!t

Have you tried those Apple Maps and the new iPhone 5 is very underwhelming compares to the Nokia 920 and GS3.

If jobs was here those maps would have never seen the day of light until they were completed and the iPhone 5 would have had way more features.

MostJadedGamer4223d ago (Edited 4223d ago )

1 of 2 things will happen when he dies. If he knows Jesus as his Lord, and Savior he will go to heaven, and have joy, and happiness forever, and ever. If he does not know Jesus as his Lord, and Savior then he will suffer eternal torment, and burn in hell forever and ever

AWBrawler4223d ago

DON'T......EVEN...... GO THERE!

krautgamer4222d ago

you are fucking retarded...

Sarcasm4222d ago

Yeah it's a bit ridiculous to talk about a man's death just to theorize on the state of a company.

Why couldn't the article just be "What will happen to Nintendo if Miyamoto retires from the gaming industry." or something.

fr0sty4222d ago

What will happen when he dies? A little jingle will play and we'll be returned to the start screen.

LAZL0-Panaflex4222d ago

Isn't this guy a little young to be talking about his death?

It will be a sad day for sure but Nintendo will continue to make the games they make. Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong, and other great franchises will be passed on to the next generation of game designers

fourtwenty20094223d ago (Edited 4223d ago )

Not to worry. He'll still have two more lives left. Also he has a bottle with a fairy in it.

Wishing him long life and good health and many more Zelda's.

ChickeyCantor4223d ago

Should Miyamoto die? I mean he didnt even come up with Call of Duty.

Honestly I really changed my mind on Fi with the remaster because they didn't make her interrupt your gameplay every 5 seconds, that drastically changed my views on her

Inverno71d ago

Technically she's in ToTK but obviously can't take any other form than the sword she was made into. Also the companion feature has been done plenty of times in Zelda, I don't think it'll add anything new. If anything should be brought back it should be the Minish.

Directionless Modern Zelda Should Return to its 3D Roots

Amen! A good, tight, Zelda game with a focus on dungeons and puzzles. Let people have the new style Zelda if you gotta, but let us have the OoT style games too. That's not without precedent either, the handheld 2D Zelda's in the style of A Link to the Past etc have coexisted alongside the 3D Zelda's before

FinalFantasyFanatic102d ago

As much as I like BoTW, TotK, I need my traditional Zelda games as well, I could not endlessly play the open world Zelda games, plus it's harder to keep those fresher than the traditional games.

Eidolon102d ago (Edited 102d ago )

BotW was just as fresh to the franchise as OoT was. TokT was great but the next LoZ would have to move from that formula to be fresh again. There's only so much they can do with the hardware. I think they focused too much on making the world big instead impactful. I felt the world was sort of empty and repetitive in TotK, sure there was a lot to do but no more difference a Ubisoft game..

anast102d ago

I wouldn't worry too much. Nintendo knows what they are doing.

Ristul102d ago

Wind Waker had a perfect balance of open world and a cool, well hand-crafted design. Maybe try to keep the open world but put in effort to make more memorable story driven quests and locations.
