5 Reasons Why Halo 4 Demands Your Attention This Holiday Season

GR: After having taken the time to speak with fellow gamers on what titles they're most excited for this year, I'm baffled by how rarely Halo 4 is mentioned. I hear titles like Assassin's Creed III, Borderlands 2, and even Dishonored, but surprisingly enough, 343 Industries' triple-A shooter hardly ever comes up. Does it have to do with the fact that Bungie's no longer at the helm? Are people really that tired of the franchise? Shouldn't that complaint be more appropriate for Call of Duty which has taken over the first-person shooter space? Whatever the reason, Master Chief's upcoming outing simply cannot be ignored. Why, you ask? I've got five compelling reasons to sway you.

All great reasons.im also surprised by the lack of hype anywhere outside the firmly entrenched fanboys. Of course, if I'm trying to speak with anyone outside of that demographic, N4G is the wrong place for it.

LOGICWINS4223d ago

Halo 4 looks great, but I wouldn't be willing to rebuy a 360 and pay for XBL just to play it...not this late in the generation.

Irishguy954223d ago

I'm hoping my 360 doesn't break again before it comes out, I'll get a month of live for it

Blankman854223d ago (Edited 4223d ago )

I usually don't disagree with you but you really came in here to tell us you're not gonna buy another xbox just for halo 4?
Is that what the article suggested you do? Nope. I've come to expect rational responses from you and I know you won't disappoint me on this. I just need to know why you came into an xbox 360 only comment section to tell us that you don't have an xbox 360, and you're not gonna buy another one. What conversation where you hoping this revelation would start?
@killerhog, then you've never played halo because everybody knows you can play both online AND local multiplayer with Halo. Heck you can take your local 4 split-screen ONLINE WITH YOU to play against other people on xbox live.
@Outside the box most of the time, (even when he's saying something I disagree with) it makes sense and is relevant. This time just seems so random and trollish. When I said I usually don't disagree, I meant I usually don't click the disagree button because what he says makes alot of sense even when our opinions differ.
There was no sense or reason in this comment.
Seeing as Halo 4 isn't in your interest, why are you here?

Outside_ofthe_Box4223d ago

***"I usually don't disagree with you but you really came in here to tell us you're not gonna buy another xbox just for halo 4?"***

You don't agree with him now because it isn't in your best interest to do so lol. I'm not surprised at all that you agree with the majority of his comments.

Dms20124223d ago

Then don't buy it, and don't comment.

Outside_ofthe_Box4223d ago (Edited 4223d ago )

***"Seeing as Halo 4 isn't in your interest, why are you here?"***

Because the article gained my interest? Not that it actually matters why I'm here or not.

***"I meant I usually don't click the disagree button because what he says makes alot of sense even when our opinions differ."***

How can you not agree with something that makes sense?

LOGICWINS4223d ago

"I just need to know why you came into an xbox 360 only comment section to tell us that you don't have an xbox 360, and you're not gonna buy another one. What conversation where you hoping this revelation would start?"

I'm here because I'm a fan of the franchise and I enjoyed playing Halo 3 when I had a 360. Just because I'm a fan of Halo doesn't mean that I'm a fan of Microsoft.

I'd say record pre order sales for the halo series speaks louder than hype.
Halo fans like to leave the talking to their wallets.
Close to 12 million Halo 3 sales speaks volumes in my opinion. Far louder than any hype.

Captain Qwark 94222d ago

halo 3 was a great game. i didnt car for odst or reach. very, very excited for halo 4 though, ill be there at midnight launch

killerhog4223d ago

In a multiconsole owner perspective (especially in the holidays) a local (party) and online multiplayer is a better idea. I would rather get playstation all-star battle royale.

Kalowest4223d ago

"a local (party) and online multiplayer is a better idea."
Halo 4 should be on your list then.

spicelicka4223d ago

halo has the best local and online multiplayer, specially local.

Dms20124223d ago

As an orange lover, I prefer oranges over apples. In fact, I love oranges so very much that if there was an article online specifically about apples, for people that like apples, I would be a total jackass and post about how much I like oranges, and how everyone that likes apples are stupid.

Allsystemgamer4223d ago (Edited 4223d ago )

So wait.

Making multiplayer maps WITH PEOPLE
2 Full co op campaigns with friends in 4 way split screen or online
Split screen versus/ 4 way splitscreen ONLINE

Doesn't sound like a good multiplayer experience?

Oh btw your trolling sucks because halo has everything an more you mentioned.

Want a brawler? Simple. SWORDS VS GRAVITY HAMMERS VS RAMMING VEHICLES PLUS NO GRAVITY IN A GIANT SPHERE WITH BOOBY TRAPS. How does that not sound fun as a split screen game??

killerhog4223d ago (Edited 4223d ago )

Trolling? So I should get a game, that only appeals to shooting fans; with characters that can only relate to fans of that series? Let alone in its fourth installment, over a new ip on the ps3? That makes perfect sense, because I only have shooting game (halo specific) fanatic friends, and all my friends are guys as well. Let me not get the game everyone can pick up and play, with characters from their prefer game/genre? Makes perfect sense. I especially love the imbecile, who did the orange and apple comparison, cause he's to slow to think outside the box. He failed to realize what the article was about, and my reason against it (article), as a multiple console owner with friends of different taste.

Yes I know all-star is a fighting game, but the characters are from different games/genres (preference) with different styles (radec shooting for example).

Sony fans lurk around every corner on this site trolling 360/halo articles because they're envious/jealous of the halo franchise...reason 1

halo pisses playstation kids off because it's sales are phenomenal.... reason 2

the series set the bar for first person shooters......reason 3

sony kids are mad because they want play it,but are closed minded and on n4g all day sniveling, buy halo 4 to help remedy that ......reason 4

resistance and killzone failed in every way to be successful like the halo series ....reason 5.

could give many more reasons but i'll stop at 5 like the article reads.

ahhhhh
great to own a 360

oh alright here's a 6th reason
there's nothing quite like the halo series with it's deep story, charaters, lore and classic gameplay that's quite unique from any other series.

I just want my special edition 360.

alexcosborn4223d ago

That thing does look amazing :)

ChunkyLover534223d ago

Could probably list 100 reasons why it demands attention. Cant wait!

knifefight4223d ago

I'll bet I could eat a hundred copies of Halo 4.

FarCryLover1824223d ago

I can give you five reasons as to why I'm sick of lists and reasons.

TheRealHeisenberg4223d ago

Every console is guilty of it. Do you need a list or are you done trolling?

Halo 4 is a day one purchase for me and is the game I have been looking forward to the most since it was announced.

Allsystemgamer4223d ago

I dont know if you've actually taken a look at the game but it offers as a sequel vastly more co tent than anything Sony has thrown at it's audience in terms of sequels. Not that they're bad games but if our talking milking a series halo 4 is definitely what a swirl should be. Not just a new story.

Shadonic4223d ago

How many final fantasys and god of wars or there or maybe ratchet anc clank ? Dosent really matter i mean theres a hundred mario games i dont see anyone saying milk there as long as they let the player have fun then there doing just fine. I mean even in just plain generic character or story design its all kind of milked they tweak things and change up the scenery but its all the same. At least thats what ive learned from my collage storytelling and writing classes.

Master Chief Became More Than A Machine In 343's Halo

In Halo 4, 5, and Infinite, Master Chief became a more nuanced, human character.

In spite of the Halo series’ struggles, 343 deserves praise for adding nuance and characterisation to the ever-beating heart of Halo - The Master Chief. Playing through Infinite, it's abundantly clear that the events of the current and previous trilogies have irrevocably changed the iconic hero. He’s no longer the ‘blank slate’ that was previously presented by Bungie. He’s a fatigued, damaged and fallible protagonist, and one who is meandering through currents of grief, while reveling in his newfound agency. Giving the Chief a compelling and meaningful voice was no small feat, and 343 should be proud of that victory.

This article completely misses part of the appeal of the original iteration of character in the original game trilogy. It was the Chief and Cortana vs an entire alien collective. The blank slate Bungie displayed in their games was genius, he was an mysterious hero a wide audience could identify with because he wasn't as clearly defined as most characters.

The books added a lot of lore and backstory but most Halo players just want a fun game with exposition that doesn't get in the way of gameplay, it's why the Cortana level in Halo 3 was derided.

Not every character has to be a damaged soyboy, a soldier has to suck it up and do his duty.

BandarHub397d ago

A lot of people give the 343 version of Master Chief a lot of slack.
But Fundamentally he is still the same character, he just has a couple more dialogues. He has not changed in terms of attitude.
"Not every character has to be a damaged soyboy, a soldier has to suck it up and do his duty."
And that's what he has done at the end of the day, he did his duty. Watch his partner die, and was ready to destroy the weapon in Halo infinite....he is still the same soilder that everyone remembers

Halo Infintes one was a nice balance between both.

slate91397d ago

Chief and the halo franchise became a joke under 343

Sciurus_vulgaris397d ago

The 343i Master Chief has is based on the books. However, in Halo 4-Infinite, the Master Chief overtime become. gradually becomes more willing to show some emotion.

Obscure_Observer397d ago

"However, in Halo 4-Infinite, the Master Chief overtime become. gradually becomes more willing to show some emotion."

Which is awesome! I love how Master Chief become more John and less soldier.

Halo's Identity Problem Began With an Admirable Mess

It’s a law of nature that eventually, every long-running game franchise will have a particular entry that gets dinged for straying too far from what made it so fun in the first place. Your Super Mario Sunshine, your Dragon Age II, Assassin’s Creed III, and so on. Whether or not that opinion changes more favorably over time, the initial specter of negativity will forever hover it. Microsoft’s Halo is no exception, except that negative specter hasn’t hovered over one particular game, but one whole studio.

The3faces518d ago

True Halo 4 was a sign of 343i's incompetence and the decline of Halo.

Halo 4 and infinite have a 87 on metacritic and five a 84🤣. 343i need contents and everything else will play it self out.

ChasterMies526d ago

Halo 4, 5, and Infinite reviews are good examples of the pressure on review sites to score everything between 8-10 out of 10.

ChubbyBlade526d ago

As if reviews scores are any indication of a franchises health.

Halo has been in shambles for YEARS

-Foxtrot526d ago

Halo 4-6 are like the Star Wars sequel trilogy

They all just seem like a brand new games with small connections to the last one but no solid arc connecting them, you’re just told stuff that happened off screen in between the games and nothing makes sense

It’s like they didn’t plan a new trilogy out

CoNn3rB526d ago

That's actually a pretty good way to sum it up

LucasRuinedChildhood526d ago (Edited 526d ago )

I would argue that the new Star Wars trilogy is still better. lol

Most Halo fans would kill for the equivalent of The Force Awakens at this stage (a competent rehash of what came before it). Halo Infinite tried to be that but was undercooked and failed. Halo 4 wasn't that either - they started messing with the formula straight away although the story was okay.

There was nothing particularly compelling about Halo 5's story besides the fake plot they advertised. The Last Jedi is a divisive movie but as RedLetterMedia would say, it was "sporadically interesting" because it tried some new things and set up things that could have been great (like Kylo teaming up with Rey after backstabbing Snoke). That conversation with Yoda is great and it felt like the real Yoda, not that CGI thing in the prequels.
- "Skywalker, still looking to the horizon. Never here, now, hmm? The need in front of your nose."
- "The greatest teacher, failure is ... Luke, we are what they grow beyond. That is the true burden of all masters."
- "That library contained nothing that the girl Rey does not already possess." (because she already took them, haha).

The Rise Of Skywalker is the only one where loads of stuff happens off screen ("Palpatine has returned") in between and nothing makes sense because ... they just needed a main villain and 100 star destroyers to blow up. They could have done something much better.

Um, didn't Halo 4 have the best campaign out of the new Trilogy? Lol

ChubbyBlade526d ago

Yep and even then it wasn’t very good.

Levii_92526d ago

I'm getting a good gaming laptop soon and i'm finally going to play through the Halo franchise again plus Infinite but i never played Halo 4 before .. can anyone tell me how's the campaign in comparison to the games before it and compared to Halo 5 ?

Stanjara526d ago

Halo 4 campaign great, multi bad.
Halo 5 campaign trash, multi good.

Best Cortana halo 4.

ChubbyBlade526d ago (Edited 526d ago )

Halo 4 was when they started turning it into a “modern” game. Aka taking tips from CoD.

The older titles were sandbox based with weapons that all filled a niche and vehicles that did the same. Open levels with multiple ways to approach in different spots with different weapons etc.

Halo 4/5 doesn’t have that. It’s a linear shooter and nothing else. The story is alright but that’s about it. If it wasn’t a halo game, it would be ok but because it is a halo game, it’s outshone by the previous games.

It’s a hell of a lot better than 5 though. I found infinite pretty meh
