Yeah and it looks smart, when the rumours came out everyone didn't like the ridges, but I liked it :)

Will most likely pic this one up too.

Which would mean I have my dead phat :(

My wowrking slim

and then this new one which i think is pretty damn good looking but still it doesn't hold a candle to the phat desgin.

StonedGazers4236d ago

"and then this new one which i think is pretty damn good looking but still it doesn't hold a candle to the phat desgin."

A george forman grill, the wii won the console design of current gen for me

TheLyonKing4236d ago

@stoneGazers Hey great opinion am glad you feel the wii is better but the reflectivness of the ps3 phat combined with the desgined curve i think is much btter looking. But thanks for the contrasting opinion.

PS4 in 2014 confirmed

darthv724236d ago

are these units closed to users expandable hdd? I read the 12gb would use a dedicated hdd. It does not specify if it would be internal or external.

As for the models that include the hdd, it is assumed they are internal but now it would appear they are locked to those sizes.

Is that correct?

Less tech than the Wii U and still consume more power (watts). I already have a PS3. Absolutely no reason to invest more money in the same tech. Next investment will be the Wii U, till the PS4 comes around... then the PS3 gets traded in.

one2thr4236d ago

And what does it have to do with Wii U?... There's a point being missed, in your thinking process about this system revision....

donman14236d ago (Edited 4236d ago )

@One2thr

I am not sure why you cannot understand what I wrote. Its does not take much brain cells. So let me try this again in bullet points. Try and keep up.

* Sony had a revision of the PS3. I see no value in the revision if you already have a PS3

* I looked at the specs sheet of the new PS3 revision and I used the WiiU to makes a comparison of the fact the PS3 (old technology) still use more power (watts) than the WiiU (more advance technology).

* My third point is that I will consider doing away with my current PS3 when the PS4 is released.

Do you understand my point now?

Vortex3D4236d ago

Until there are shipping Wii U games that are ported from PS3/X360 running side by side with PS3 or X360, it's only hype from Nintendo.

Ever wonder why Nintendo is very selective in showing Wii U games that are ported from other consoles? They refused to show the graphics on Wii U in details compared to PS3 or X360 than showing the tablet controller.

@donman1

i dont really understand your point at all, simply because there really is none.

This ps3 revision is likely sony's attempt at reducing production costs, increasing efficiency of the unit with respect to older units and reducing the price for new adopters.

it baffles me that you think this is somehow aimed at existing ps3 owners as an upgrade, and your comparison with the wiiU wattage is just plain nonsense. of course new tech is more powerful but its also much more efficient as a direct result of it being more cutting edge, that's where the research goes. modern chips are evolving to be much more efficient so why would you expect this revision to be any more energy efficient than a next gen system.

i'll reiterate an above point, let's keep it classy.

I'm curious to see what the 12gb model is priced at. I imagine we'll see it at $199, but $149 would be preferable to give the industry overall a much needed boost.

As I pointed out before, you can certainly draw parallels with what happened with the PS2. The PS2 launched March, 2000. In 2004 they announced the PS2 had reached 70 million consoles sold, and in November 2004, almost 5 years in they unveiled the PS2 slim with a price of $149 and 70 million ended up not even being the halfway point in the PS2's lifetime sales. At 5 years, 9 months the PS2 had hit 100 million proving the $149 price point to be the sweet spot last gen.

By contrast the PS3 certainly faced an uphill battle with it's initially pricing, competition and the worst economic downturn in a generation staring down households. This holiday season will be 6 years for the PS3 since it's initial, limited launch (if you remember it wasn't available worldwide until March 2007) and it looks set to pass the 70 million mark this holiday season.
The PS3 took it a bit longer to reach this milestone than the PS2 but in a declining market, the PS3 seems to be the most resilient console hanging on to more sales year over year than it's competitors (Microsoft's last financial updated showed 360 sales down 43% for the first 6 months of the year compared to the same period last year, and Wii sales have dropped off a cliff ahead of the Wii-U's launch).

We all saw what effect the PS2 slim and $149 price point meant to the PS2's long term success, but the market is different. Would a $199 PS3 have the same sales impact? Would a $149 PS3? The industry in general could certainly use some stimulus, but is this enough? Or will the Wii-U be the factor that provides the much needed boost?

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Marquis_de_Sade4236d ago

At 229 Euros, the 12GB is way too expensive.

ABizzel14235d ago

12GB $199 ($149 - $179 would be better)
250GB $249
500GB $299

xtremeimport4235d ago

I dont understand their thinking in not dropping the price...maybe the system is cheaper, but just because the bundle i makes it more? idk.
traditionally a redesign comes with a price drop, without a price drop whats the point??

Darrius Cole4235d ago

They probably want to sell the existing stock first. They will probably drop the price in a month or two.

I like the way the new slimmer PS3 looks

Tuxmask554236d ago

Totally. Especially the blackness. It's a huge departure from the previous two PS3 units.

ZoyosJD4236d ago

Read the article. Both black and white models will be made available. If you want more than that, get it skinned or painted.

DiRtY4236d ago

I actually liked the fat PS3 the most. It just looked powerful. Too bad the first games did not show what it was capable of. It even had the most features (PS2, Linux).

I don't get the point of removing features though. How can a 6 years old console be more advanced than a console from next week?

HammadTheBeast4236d ago

It's not that it was advanced, it just cost about $700 with taxes and such, and Linux created a major flaw in security, which would've basically killed online play.

MagicAccent4236d ago (Edited 4236d ago )

It looked like something that would murder you in your sleep with its blu-ray laser, just because it could.

gaffyh4236d ago

Looks better than when i originally saw it, and i think i prefer it to the Slim that i have!

MrAnderson4236d ago

This is the oldest news i've probably ever heard...

Ganzi4236d ago (Edited 4236d ago )

Did ya hear!? We put a man on the Moon!

PopRocks3594236d ago

Excellent design. It's tempting, but I'll stick with my current slim.

Mugen Souls Retro Review – Sexy Demon Space Adventure

Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

CrimsonWing693h ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker3h ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo3h ago(Edited 3h ago)

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing693h ago(Edited 3h ago)

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos9m ago(Edited 6m ago)

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos9h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto8h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger888h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).
