The problem with PSASB is how sony is marketing it like Super Smash Bros, which wouldn't be a problem if Sony had more different genres/styles of games this gen. The Wii had games set in unrealistic, fantasy worlds that although some could regard as "kiddish", were still good and overall help SSBB, because unlike the PS3, Wii had some games that weren't trying to hard to be realistic (because of the inferior graphics), so it fit better.

Because PS3 lacked that this gen, it doesn't feel right knowing that they're trying to create a game like this since their exclusive titles often either A)where in the same genre, or B)had the exact same realistic (which is okay) but sometimes repetitive, boring, stale feel to them.

What in the world are you spewing?

prototypeknuckles4228d ago

what are you talking about when you say they lack variety, so i guess LBP, infamous, GoW, uncharted, journey, ratchet, killzone, sly, the last of us, heavy rain, and all stars all look and play alike, gotcha

sikbeta4228d ago

This game will be crushed by reviews and non PS3 owners, it wasn't a good idea to make it 2.5D, should have been 3D like PowerStome and no one would have any complain because PowerStone is dead IP (Capcom doesn't care), so the only comparition would have been Mascot Brawler and not Mascot Brawler copycat/ripoff of Smash Bros.

StrawHatPatriot4228d ago

LBP and GoW are the only truly different games from this gen, Ratchet & Clank is mainly PS2, and Journey is more or less a PSN game.

Lucretia4228d ago

the crap you are saying is ridiculous.....

so let me get this right....heavy rain plays like Killzone????

nintendo barely has variety in its genres, Rpg and Platformer and a shooter, thats it, unless ur counting Super mario bad mitten.

the game is about having your favorite characters fight each other. using a character like Cole vs Sackboy was originally unheard of, but now its not.

what other game can you get Dante Vs Kratos, or Nariko Vs Raiden?

dafegamer4228d ago

lack of vareity this gen what? What Major Franchise has nintendo got this gen apart from Zelda and Mario and the occasional Donkey Kong game huh?

EVERYONE, HOW do edit my comment, I didn't really type it well to be honest. I didn't mean to say heavy rain plays like killzone or anything, but rather, they all have that same, dark realistic feel sort of.

Lucretia4228d ago

they only give u 15 minutes to hit edit, or the button dissapears.

and dark and realistic?

sooo Little big planet and uncharted are dark? Heavenly sword wasn't really dark.

i sorta think you mean Most of Sony's IP's are geared towards gamers 13+ instead of E for everyone like nintendo.

where nintendo doesnt have even one Dark and realistic character, sony has few Kiddy and cartoony characters, all i can think of for kiddy is LBP, Mod nation, fat princess, Ratchet, Jak and Daxter.....man there is enough listed there already lol. sony has both young and old audiances which is what makes sony so awesome.

and the best thing PS allstars has over smash.

all the characters play uniquely. instead of smash which has a bunch of clones with different skins.

even in PSAS evil cole and normal cole have different animations and attacks

I guess this is one of the wonders of smoking weed

topekomsi4228d ago

I played the closed beta a couple of times, it was really interesting and varied in the characters and if i remember correctly there were ony 5 or 6, i always used sweet tooth or fat princess, lol baby got BACK!

This would've been good if they didn't have to scrape the bottom of the barrel for characters and then use the game just to advertise games for 3rd party characters. It's still missing a ton of staple characters like Crash, Lara, Spyro, Cloud, Solid Snake, Kazuma, Raziel, & more.

DigitalRaptor4228d ago (Edited 4228d ago )

Scraping the bottom of the barrel?

The majority of characters announced so far are 1st/2nd party Sony owned characters. The only 3rd party characters out of 20 announced are Big Daddy, Dante, Raiden and Heihachi. FOUR... out of TWENTY.

Now of course there will be more announced, but people like yourself are complaining about things that are unannounced.

Kazuma will be in there, I'm pretty sure about that. Snake I'm sure too. Crash and Spyro I can see being a problem because of Activision and licensing, but I think they will make their way into the game in some way. Maybe Cloud will be announced at TGS, since Superbot have been announcing new characters/stages at all major gaming events.

Lara is 3rd party and would be used to advertise the new Tomb Raider game, but Crystal Dynamics have said no to Lara being in the game. Having her in there would be okay for you, even though it would be advertising third party?

MySwordIsHeavenly4228d ago

Kazuma?
Raziel?

Talk about scrapping the bottom... O_o

smashcrashbash4228d ago

I am sorry how are they scraping the bottom of the barrel by using characters that are well known and belong to them? Drake, Ratchet, Jak, Parappa, Cole etc. are scraping the bottom of the barrel? And how are they third party characters. Most of the characters in PASBR are either first or second party so how is the game just being use to advertise for third party character if most of them belong to Sony? Do you read what you write after you write it or are you just high or something?

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Launched 10 Years Too Early

Though PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale is a bit of a cult classic, it could have been a big hit if it launched in 2022 instead of 2012.

It wouldn't have mattered, Sony would've rushed it out and left it to die. More so now than before with their focus now being on SP narrative driven AAA games.

CrimsonWing69511d ago

Oh, but somehow Smash Bros. 64 made it work?

It just couldn’t compete with Smash Bros. and it wasn’t a free-to-play game like Multiversus.

PapaBop511d ago

I think it released at the right time. It's just after the success of Smash and Multiversus, it's finally time for a sequel.

spoonard511d ago

I'd be all in on a remake or remaster of the original. I enjoyed it because I didn't sit there and compare every aspect to SSB. I just enjoyed it as it was.

Magatsuhi511d ago

Sony should make part 2 and dump a good amount of money on it. Scrap super only kills and it's bound to succeed.

Father__Merrin511d ago

Yes the power kills spoilt it completely WTH was they thinking you should have hp bar that's it

God of War: Ragnarok Weirdly Makes PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Canon

God of War: Ragnarok has plenty of fun references to PlayStation history, but now fans have discovered a conversation that calls back to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale — the crossover fighting game released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

Nyxus518d ago

I wouldn't say canon. More like an easter egg.

Deathdeliverer517d ago

That’s interesting. It actually does make it canon lol. He mentioned it in a mainline game. I’d say that’s pretty cool.
