We’re just two months away from the launch of the Wii U, and the internet is abuzz with hype (or anger) about the launch line-up for Nintendo’s next system. As cool as new hardware is to play with, consoles succeed or die by the strength of their software library, and every console ever released has tried to launch with at least one killer-app.
Remember the days of four-player couch co-op? The Wealth of Geeks team certainly does. This list brings us back to the golden years of the original Xbox with the best four-player games that were available.
Have you ever looked at a modern first-person shooter and wondered "How did we get here?" Wealth of Geeks performs a deep dive into the genre, including some of the most influential games, from the very first FPS from the cross-genre experiences that changed the game entirely.
GF365: "I'd advise against reading this article if you just had your lunch. Here are the most disgusting enemies in games."
The Callisto Protocol has some gross ones as did the Doom, Dead Space, and Quake games.
That had to be one of the worst list I have ever seen.. The flood from Halo makes the list? Left for dead? Terrible list… they didn’t even mention silent hill or Bloodborne. Obviously they haven’t played too many games.
Mario 64 for the Nintendo 64 entertainment system has always been my personal all time favorite launch title. Light years ago when it had released, I had never seen anything like it. Everything from the controls, gameplay, complete mobility, and graphics were revolutionary for its time. The 1st real 3D platforming experience in true 3D space handcrafted to that level. Setting the standards for future platform titles to come.
Not only was it the greatest of its time in just about everything that had to do with platform gaming. It still holds up to this day as one of the best that has ever done it. Delivering an experience that in my opinion surpasses most of last generations best platform offerings. For me only to be bested by Super Mario Galaxy. And I question that at times as well.
Long live the days of the Nintendo 64 entertainment system
Rated E For Everyone
This was a GREAT read and a nice trip down memory lane. Good idea and good job on the article.
My top 3 would be, in the order they came out:
Super Mario World for the snes
Mario 64 for the N64
Halo for the xbox.
For me these were excellent launch titles that tbh were not beaten by any other games on said platforms for their entire lifetime and perfectly represented and demonstrated what the consoles were both capable of and would be mostly characterised by.
ps my favourite console of all time was the megadrive but the launch games sucked!
Spot-on with Super Mario Bros. That was the very first I every played and beaten.
Super Mario World. I remember wanting the SNES badly after playing a bit of it at my schoolmate's house. The 16-bit graphics were a major step-up from the 8-bit.
